Any of you guys buy the Japanesque rock and style magazine Cure? It's all in Japanese, but there are some great pictures to update readers on visual and oshare kei that's currently hot in Japan.

I've been purchasing them whenever I can afford it. Maybe I should just get a subscription. Last one I bought had Miku from AN CAFE on the cover. Volume 39, I think.

Anyway, just wondering if that was something you people read.

Don't say AN CAFE! No!!!

And yes, I've seen the mag. once. I more used it for practicing Japanese than looking at the pictures... but it looked interesting. Not anything to wet my pants about though.

What's wrong with typing AN CAFE?

I would hope that you wouldn't wet your pants over something like that.

Bou tricked me... the bastard...

lol, Dr.Ezra, don't be so literal. When I said 'wet pants' I meant it didn't pique any genuine interests that I had. :P

Ah ha ha. I didn't mean if that way. I meant, I would hope that you wouldn't pee your pants over something as not-amazing as a magazine.

Ok. ^_^

Let's put it this way...

On a scale of 1-10 for informal prose/enjoyable pic. media (magazines), it scored a 7. I enjoyed the pictures... but I was more concerned with the fact that my ability to read Kanji still sucks.

I have a subscription to SHOXX

SHOXX > Cure

SHOXX? Are you sure it's superior to Cure? I've read both magazines, and I'd have to say that the article quality (if that's what you base you scale on) is: SHOXX < Cure.

I like SHOXX because less Oshare Kei and more of the more important stuff.

Oshare Kei isn't exactly my style either. Visual is more apt to satisfy me. I, personally, though, go for more a flat-line Jrock type of music.

I'd prefer just original japanese rock over the Kei.

I like Shoxx and Cure. They're both cool, but I read Cure more often. Hot Topic has more in stock.

I buy whatever magazine has hide on the cover. Or has a considerable amount of pages dedicated to hide. XD I once bought a few copies of SHOXX (I mean, recent ones without hide) but I sold them pretty soon after. To be honest, hide's the only Japanese musician that's ever really interested me.

The melodies they come up with in rock is better, in my opinion. Being a classical musician, I'm most interested in creative music. The visuals by bands like AN CAFE are nice, but the compositional implications of pieces like Lonely in Gorgeous and Riraito satisfy my hunger for Japanese music on a much higher order.

Hide gained quite a bit of fame after his death (not saying he wasn't famous while alive, he was very successful). They even made a museum for the guy.

Lonely in Gorgeous would be jpop. xD

Try listening to this band called No Regret Life, here's a PV for ya. ^_^

And the famous band, THE BACK HORN

However, Ero-Guro > All japanese music. Bands like MUCC, Cali=Gari, or Merry may strike your interest more.

Oh, and one more thing, watch Nodame Cantabile.

Yes, but it was closed.
