Hello people!
I was wondering if anyone elswe here has an interest in photography. A whie back I posted a thread about cameras and I ended up buying a Olympus E500 D SLR camera. I havent really used it that much, can't find anything to shot with it.
does anyone here enjoy photography? I want to take pictures in abandoned buildings/ creepy hallways and ghost towns, and Storm clouds when I get the chance. (any for anime conventions whcih is the first reason I bought it).

I absolutely love photography. I hope to get good some day.
Oh! We have the same camera. Though, I would choose film over digital anyday.

But with digital, you can see your picture before you print it out, and can delete them and all.

I am a novice , so if I used Film everythig would turn out really dark or something like that. thats why I ultimeatly decided on digital, if I was experienced I would have a film camera also

yes true with digital but with photography there is the mystery and wonder of what it's going to look like, you can ahold the negatives, and you can use it in a court of law(you can't use digital due to photoshop ans such)
i love photography and at my art school it's one of the subjects i'm going into
if you ever have the chance to work with black and white film you hsould
it's a totally different experience than with color because you can develop the film itself and you can make the enlargements yourself
it may take you a while to find you preferance on exposure and such but it will be a fun process
it's also good that you have somewhat of a vision in mind for your subjects already too

If I had the time and money I would love to learn the art of photography. I'm no good at photoshop but the camera cam with a prgram that lets you touch up the photo a bit by reducing noise, +/- brightness ect.
I wouldnt have the means to develop film myself, I dont even know where I could do that around here.
being 23 already, damn I feel old, I can't take the photography class offered in high school

I like taking pictures of patterns with vibrant colors. As some of you know, I'm an avid believer of the 1:3 rule and I like different view points.
Just look through your camera, most artsy photographers do alot of editing right on their camera, not so much photoshop. I bet that Camera has quality and color controls. My Olympus has a sepia option and black/white option. To bad I can't adjust shutter speeds for night time.
There was actually a thread on here a really long time ago showcasing pictures of thunder and lighting, that guy was good.

I have the lenses and stuff for photography but laziness usually causes me to go with my digital. I usually like to take floral or sky pictures during the spring, sunset, sunrise or of the moon when its unusual.

I enjoy photography a lot, AnimeNation forum legend has seen my work (Because I got a snapshot of a framed MD Geist photo in San Fransico that was selling for 30 dollars). Every chance I get I get the digital camera and fill up some 520 MB memory cards. Had to get a gigger after the Yosemitie National Park tragedy. (There were no survivors)
Next year when I relocate for an undetermined amount of time to the Prons republic I'm gonna create an epic pictar thread. EDIT: Is there anyway to mass upload images to photobucket?
Hybrid Shock
June 9th, 2007, 10:27 PM
yea, there's like an option on uploading up to 20 at a time
can't remember though, it's been 3 years since i used the mass upload feature. having gallery on my netspace means i can use gallery remote, which can upload hundreds at a time

Damn that's lucky, too bad my images are like 9,000x9,000 and I still have no idea how to resize them all at once.

get Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/). it lets you batch resize
that's what i love about gallery remote. if the camera has an orientation sensor (my Finepix f30 does but not my *ist Ds), it automatically rotates the picture, and then you can batch resize whilst uploading
EDIT: i'd also post process, but i shoot exclusively in JPG.
EDIT2: pr0ns, did you want me to do the old school n00b guide to batch resizing?

Really?
I am very much an amateur, and I find film to be much easier than digital SLR, haha.
I guess it's different for everybody though.

Hey hybrid, I got the conversion working but I have a question:
My pictures are originally 2816x2112 (2112 high), what's a good px to shrink them too that won't screw up the quality so much?

I love photography. I've been to a few events and conventions semi-locally and always enjoy the speakers.
I was looking at getting a Canon Rebel, but I'm not too sure. My mom does wedding photography and uses film still, but was looking at getting a medium format with a digital back.
I'd be just happy with something that has motion stabilization. As of now, I'm actually thinking of getting a Nikon instead of Canon, since you can swap the lenses and we have quite a few.

What do you plan on using the images for? If you're just trying to save space, keep them at their original size and just burn them to a CD (or DVD if you have that many).
If you're just keeping these for computer use, and not thinking of printing them, save them at 110 dpi and maybe 1600x1200 (or 2400x1800).

if it's web use, don't drop it to any larger than 800x800 (as in the longest dimension is 800 pixels) as file sizes will be massive
it's not so much the size, it's the resizing technique. i dunno about both irfanview or Gallery remote, but if i'm doing it manually, i'll generally use bilinear resizing. if it's "nearest pixel", then it's gonna look crap. I'm happy with gallery remote's auto resize though...
If you're doing it for space, don't resize them,. just back them off to a CD or DVD. Better to have the originals...

wow. you must have a lot of money. medium format is expensive, let alone digital backs for them.
I went to a wedding a few months ago, and the photographer had a Nikon D200. She'd probably be just as happy with an EOS 5D (full frame 12MP) and she can use her lenses with no problems
If you want to use her lenses, remeber there's a 1.6x focal length multipler if you get any EOS other than a 1Ds or 5D. And your EF-S lenses won't work with her film EOS
I'd be just happy with something that has motion stabilization. As of now, I'm actually thinking of getting a Nikon instead of Canon, since you can swap the lenses and we have quite a few.
here's the deal with motion stabilisation. Canon and nikon have lenses that do it (the IS series of EF lenses, and the VR of nikkor lenses), whereas Pentax and KM/Sony have it in body (K100D and K10D in the Pentax, Sony's A100 has it. the Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D i think also had it)
you'll get more lenses with motion stabilisation if you get a Pentax (their KA bayonet mount's been there for ages and predates both the Nikon DX and Canon EF mount. Fast primes are cheap).
Now, if you get a Nikon cause you have old lenses, don't get the D40/D40X. No aperature ring means that the old ones don't work. You'd need a D50 (of you could still find them) or a D80 (current lowest spec model with the Aperature ring), or you'd need to get AF-S DX lenses.
which isn't such a bad thing, given that the 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VRII lens that everyone is raving about is that freaking good, even i'm considering changing... I'd be replacing my 18-55mm, 55-200, 18-125 and 18-200mm with that one lens, and it's VR too.

If you're gonna do that, the best way is to treat digital as Film. don't delete.
Also, shoot in RAW. that lets you do post processing with a better source.

^ I tend to shot using TIFF, I dont really have any way of processing my picutes, I get them develoed at a kiosk and most of those dont accept RAW files. But the TIFF is uncompressed and really
I dont really understand RAW that much yet anyways. DO you mean you can use it for photoshopping?
Hybrid Shock

RAW is just that. the raw signal comming from the camera's sensor. Remember, JPEG is a lossy format and no matter how good the noise cancellation and JPEG conversion, you're not going to get everything that the sensor picks up in JPEG. Even TIFF is still processed a little compared to RAW
some cameras also allow for adjustments of photos shot in RAW.
Personally, i shoot JPEG because i can't be arsed post processing. i tend to compensate for the lack of needing to PP raws by shooting the siubject a lot more...

I misread this as pornography.
I'll go back now.
For the record, I use a Canon.

Legendary. I use a Digital EOS and an old 35mm Rebel G. I use them to take action shots, primarily motorsport (IRL Nascar, Formula D).

Last year I bought a used Nikon D100. I really haven't been able to get out and take some shots but, since it's summer I'll have alot of free time.
Does anyone have expirience with this camera?

haha..... I was just about to make a topic about cameras when I saw this. Just my luck huh? ^_^
Anyway, I love photography. I really like black and white, and for it, I actually used my uncle's K1000. So old I know, but it was so much fun to work with!
Now my question:
I was actually thinking of buying my own camera, and I wanted what were some good suggestions? As far as I've kept up with the world, everyone seems to be going digital, but I really want film and didn't what were good models.
So if anyone has any suggestions, that'd be great!
