here is Thomas Janes response about pulling out of the sequel to the punisher movie.
"Punisher fans are already fighting an uphill battle as it is. And I’ve always felt a responsibility to fight that fight for them and with them so that Frank Castle gets the treatment he deserves.... What I won't do is spend months of my life sweating over a movie that I just don't believe in. I’ve always loved the Marvel guys, and wish them well. Meanwhile, I’ll continue to search for a film that one day might stand with all those films that the fans have asked me to watch."

Good. He wasn't buff enough for Frank Castle, and his face always lacked the intensity to look truly pissed and determined. His solemn expressions didn't convey a fiery vengeance.
Still, with the acting casts that Marvel movies have been receiving lately, the new Castle is probably going to be much worse. They'll probably put an emaciated Topher Grace in and I'll look back at this post in regret.

That's the worse news I've heard all week. Seriously. The 2004 Punisher was the only super hero movie I've injoyed.(The 1989 one wasn't bad, either.)

Why are they even makeing a sequal to a movie as horrible as The Punisher?

^To see if they can do better?
Personally, I thought it was a pretty neat movie (although I kind of balked at some of the scenes, mostly those involving Thomas Saint). Ah, well. I guess it's kind of like me liking the Hulk film as well, but not getting to see a sequel where the cast all returns.

well you liking the first Hulk is understandable. I did too, and everyone didn't like it cuz they expected a smash fest without any thought and the director too k a different route with the character that pissed off the fans so only people who tried to see more and weren't Hulk fans liked it

Tom Jane wasn't too bad as the Punisher. The movie wasn't as bad. It's definitely at the bottom of the barrel of the Marvel bunch.
And for giggles:
Dark Knight hype > Marvel movies =p

It is very hard to make comic movies since its hard to please the hardcore fans and the regular movie goers. Trying to maintain that balance is something very hard to do in certain movies. I would say some Marvel and DC movies try to be a "stand alone" movie... In which they want them to apeal to non-fans and get rid of the origin, cannon, names, places, events and such. . .

I really liked The Punisher and thought Thomas Jane was decent in it. I'd rather not see a sequal than them try to recast such an important roll....again. Where's Dolf Lungren when ya need him lol.

For the record, I actually liked The Punisher and thought that Tom Jane did a decent job with had he had.

I enjoyed the 2004 movie to some extent, though I admit being baked through most of it. I wouldn't classify it as a "bad" movie, more of a "meh." It'd be best if it remained a single film anyway. Hollywood has a record on producing sequels to movies regardless of their previous quality. Big Mama's House 2? Miss Congeniality 2?

Sure the first movie had its problems, but I loved the fight with Nash.
We'll see who they get. Edward Norton replacing Bana is a replacement done right.

It's going to be tough making a sequel to a movie where the main character isn't played by the same actor. I can't think of a single example of such an occurrence.

How do you know it's bad if you never saw it? Kind of anti-climactic, that.

The first movie I thought was pretty solid. It is a shame that Thomas Jane didn't want to be in a sequel. Having said that I hope they DON'T make a sequel because you can't just switch the main character's actor on a whim like that.

It was gonna happen to Tobey in Spidey 3. Jake Gyllenhal(sp?) was rumored to take up the mantle should Tobey not have returned. So yeah, money is money. They don't care what they'd have to do with the main character, as long as their is someone that can play the role.

Right.
