View Full Version : Wisdom Teeth Worries

People get older. They get wisdom teeth. They get them taken out (usually) and they move on. Not a big deal right?
My own wisdom teeth have been scheduled to be removed literally at the end of July. (the 31st) I scheduled it for that date because I thought it would be best convenient to work out with my trip to PA for the summer. But my mind is on what waiting this long will do to my teeth. I'm worried that my teeth will become crooked before I can get them removed. My teeth have been achey lately and I can't seem to stop thinking about it.
I've been so worked up over it.
Anyway I'd like to hear about anyone else's experiences with wisdom teeth or any advice they would like to share.

You won't suffer too many adverse effects as long as you don't get an abscess. If they get infected contact your dentist and he'll prescribe an antibiotic, usually penicillin based. It might hurt to brush the gums near them but you have to keep it clean. Even more so than usual.
It won't do anything to the rest of your teeth over such a short period of time.
Well that's just from personal experience.
Are you having them out at the dentists or at the hospital?

no...an oral surgeon is not a dentist.
A Dentist is the guy that looks at your teeth while the dental assistant does all the work.

I've heard that it's a bit more painful to have it done at the dentist, but all the people who say that had it done about 15 years ago. I think that is the bigger factor.
A Dentist is the guy that looks at your teeth while the dental assistant does all the work.Really? Not at my dentist, he mostly handels NHS works so maybe he can only afford the type of assistan who assists.
The worst thing that happened to my when they too out mine: Whoever was using the little suction thing was a moron and left it touching the side of my face. I ended up with a graze around the left side of my lips.

If they've scheduled the extraction for that far in the future, they're obviously fairly confident that your wisdom teeth still have some breathing room before they do some damage. I woudn't worry about a thing. It's not like you're gonna wake up one morning and find that your teeth have been pushed out overnight or anything.
I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed (plus one more) at once, and all four were impacted. The doctors weren't in a big rush to remove 'em; we just scheduled it when it was convenient. They weren't going anywhere.

The dentist didn't schedule it, I scheduled it.
I don't recall if my dentist said if I should have them removed "by summer" or "during summer". All I remembered was "summer"( I last went to the dentist mid April)

I still don't think you have anything to worry about, but if you're actually concerned, I'd recommend that you:
1) Call your dentist/doctor/surgeon, whoever looked at your teeth
2) Ask if he feels waiting until July 31 will be a problem, based on what he observed
3) Ask him if there is some kind of problem between now and then, how you'll recognize that problem and what you should do in response.
It's gotta be better than asking random people on the internet, right? ;)

Well that's the problem...
My trip to PA starts to tomorrow. I come back to TN a few days before the meeting with my surgeon. And then a week after is the scheduled surgery.

^ You know, they have phones in PA. Bring the number, call. If you're truly that worried, then take the time to make an informed medical decision.
I maintain that you're worrying over nothing, however. I've never seen hospital staff come running with the Code Cart to handle an emergency tooth extraction.

My god, man! We've got to get that tooth out of there before it breaches his palate and grows into his brain!

I also had all four removed at once. The knocked me out too and it was over quick, and painlessly. I slept the entire day afterwards, with cotton balls in my mouth. I dont think your supposed to do that but it was more confortable than sleeping without them. Wake up every hour or 3, spit out the cotton, replace with new cotton, pass out again.
Also get a bunch of your favorite ice cream. My girl brought me a pint of cake batter ice cream from coldstone. That alone made it tolerable.

Hahaha thanks. If I continue to worry about it I might call. Making a thread for people I don't even know to respond is so I can get unbiased opinions. The people close to me are "programmed" to always say "yes, dear, everything will be alright." I actually worry about a lot of things like this a lot, so they get annoyed.

Its been awhile since I had this done.
I had all four of mine removed at once they whir impacted too. They put me under while they did the surgery it's instantaneous I did not even know they started yet.
I remember I ate KFC Mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese for dinner that night while I had to watch everyone else eat that good chicken.

Getting your winsdome teeth pulled is mostly quick and painless.
That is unless your teeth break apart while still in your gums and they have to dig the pieces out.
I still don't have feelings in the side of my tongue that was grazed by the drill.

There is usually an age limit due to a specific nerve growth. I didn't get mine done until nearly the cut off. They were bothering me. I was on T3 just for the pain they were causing. I think at least two were impacted.
You should be ok.
Frozen peas are a Godsend. Trust me on this. And don't drink the liquid nourishment they send you home with. Good foods to have in preparation are jello, easy mac, pudding, applesauce, popsicles, and other soft foods.
Also don't go and tour your local aquarium five days after fact if they put you on heavy meds.

I'm almost 20 and having recently gone to the dentist which never leads to any trouble, no cavities or tooth problems yet and X-Rays they took recently at my last visit and apparantly I have no Wisdom teeth as of yet, not even impacted under the gums, no sign of any at all. I've heard many horror stories as well as stories of people who get them removed and then go off to job interviews the next day with no problems. I think it depends on the person as well as the dentist.

I lost all 4 pieces of my wisdom two years ago. Oral surgeon did it. The process wasn't bad. I was gassed and drugged. I sat in the chair, and the next thing I knew, I woke up an hour later with no feeling in my mouth.
All I could eat was pudding for the next two weeks. I watched a Rocky movie marathon that I would constantly pass out on. Mine hurt a lot and I seemed to have a tough time with it. I took a lot of pain killers.
But don't let that concern you. My sister went a year later, got all 4 of hers out, and ate a hamburger the next day. Loser. All people react to it differently.

My exp. with my teeth starts with head gear goes to braces than a retainer and ends with pulling out my wisdom teeth. I swelled up really bad for two days and the T3 made me really high. but I have really nice teeth now so it was well worth the effort.
