From my short time in my martial arts training and watching fights, namely MMA fights, I've come to this conclusion: It's not about which fighting art is the best, but which fighting art you're the best at.

In the end, it isn't the art, it's the fighter.

See, I could've told you that after simply watching/reading Ranma 1/2. After all, doesn't Ranma usually defeat his opponents using their own style against them? Isn't that sort of the credo of the Anything-Goes School?

That's a very fundamental fact. Styles don't win fights.

You haven't learnt all this from those Chineese martial arts movies where some dude comes along claiming to have the greatest fighting style and beats the good guy up then the good guy goes and trains at his style comes back and kicks the bad guys ***?

I somewhat agree.

It should be noted that a distinct style does affect how a fighter acts and reacts in a fight. It would be better to say that the style and the fighter are complimentary. The style makes the fighter as much as the fighter makes the style.

The only thing that matters in the fight is the competence of the fighter. The name attached to whatever he is doing means nothing. Any fighter who allows the style to make him is a weakling. I can't think of any martial artist who's been limited in that manner, fortunately.

I think the fearless theme is true also, even in cases of TKD for crying out loud!! (Although I still wouldn't practice a style so fixated on kicking only )

Everybody knows that fighting styles are all a bunch of bull and your only chance in a real fight is to get your fist in the other guy's forehead however well you can.
