I have never believed that it would be remade. It was never a credible suggestion in the first place.

it sends me mixed emotions. sad to not see the game as it COULD be. Happy that it stays original.

Does FFVII even merit a remake? I've played up to about a third of the second disc and found it to be so boring, I let it go. When I got back to it, I had to restart over because I lost my save slot and lost interest yet again.
I find FFVIII to be much more intriguing and worthy of a remake than VII and even then I'd much prefer they develop new games rather than being stuck on the past, even for cash purposes.

For me, I don't care for remake of VII that much but if there able to release International + α and having that tech-demo graphics, I'm pretty sure I'll buy it.

This is an excellent point. As for an FFVII remake; I'd buy it just to see if it got any better from the last time I played it. FFVII was pretty mediocre, but had some nifty concepts here and there. Remade, it could have beneficial changes.

Orphen scene alone means VII > VIII

We all know that if Holy Knight doesn't like a game (despite what the masses think of the game) that it shouldn't be remade. :-"

At which point in the game do we encounter it? I'll have to see it to judge that.

I stated my opinion as an open-ended question, not as an absolute. I did not mean "does it have to be remade?" as a negative, but as an objective question with subjective connotations. Sorry for the confusion.
I'm not saying the game won't be good, as knowing SquareEnix, it will definitely be a quality production. However, do we really need it? How much until the fans are appeased? SE has released many FFVII products over the years and fans still clamor for more. FFVII fans aren't the only demography being targeted here. At some point you have to draw the line and say "enough is enough, let's move on". That was the subjective meaning behind my question.
What's your take on the objective point?

I see no reason not to make the remake (Obvious reasons are cold hard cash from fans of the game. Let's be honest everyone who is a final fantasy fan and got into it durning the 90's more than likely got into it with FFVII.) While there has been a few things done for Fans of the FFVII game (FFVII advent Children, FFVII Derge of Cerbius<Sp?>) The basic please remake this game has been overlooked. I do understand the reason for overlooking it. After all in order for them to remake it they would basically have to do the same as they did with Resident Evil. While REmake was awesome and was done beautifully, I almost fear what they would do with the character designs from our favorite characters. Most likely they would either look like the Advent Children/Derge of Cerbius (SP?) character designs over the Kingdom Hearts/ original FFVII character designs.

There would be no justification at all for remaking the game unless they changed things. Be it character designs, puzzles or something more substantial, things would change.
Otherwise, what would be the point? You'd just be playing exactly the same game with better graphics. I really hope I'm not the only one who wouldn't buy the game if it was just that.

As much as Squeenix is whoring FF in general, FFVII remake is only a matter of time.

It appears that there are often overseas rumors like 'Are you currently developing a VII remake?' My apologies, but we're absolutely not making [such a game].
Square will create a remake of FFVII, no doubt about that in my mind - whether it will be for the new generation of consoles or the next generation machines after that I dunno.
I wouldn't want to see a carbon copy of FFVII either, but something set in the same world as FFVII - wasn't there another 'terrorist group' besides Avalanche that a story could be set around?

I find FF8 much more worthy of a remake than FF7 and I dont want Square wasting their time remaking either of those two games.

I would hope that they would upgrade some of the mini games and basic game play as well, but would still just be happy to have a revamped FFVII.

As much as I love FFVII, I'd prefer a re-make not to be made....At least, not now :P
As for wishing for a FFVIII re-make, the only way I'd like to see that is if they massively change the script (I know everyone remembers the orphanage scene >_< ), the characters, the semi-broken battle system, focused the story a bit more on Laguna....and...Well damn, with that much coins in the wishing pond, might as well just make FFXIV.
Edit: Just read the article and this comment made me lol
It's going to take 3 years to produce this remake. If they decide to do it next year then it will probably be released on 2011 in Japan, 2012 in the US, 2099 in Europe.

Currently I'm glad a remake isn't happening. I think that it's better to keep the game as the glory of the original. However, in the next ten or twenty years I'd actually like to see a remake(same exact game, just new graphics). I think it'd be a great way to spark the interest of a newer generation that will never play the game because of it's antiquity. It'd be a good way to bring a classic back to a new generation, hopefully the same will be done for FFVIII and IX as well.

It would of been nice IF they revamped the series..as long as they revamped it, that's fine. Just leave the story alone. Look how bad FFX had it when X-2 came out.

sub story for FFVIII on how the all knew each other when they were young but forgot due to the GF's. i'm gonna have to start playing it again, one of my favourite games ever.
Still all they need to do is a graphics overhaul and leave the story alone.

FFVIII needs a gameplay revision. That game was broken to all hell. Junction system was so broken, it was ridiculous. Meltdown was like, the best spell in the game and Squall was just ridiculously overpowered. All you needed was Curaga for HP, Ultima for Attack Power, and Haste for Defense. After all, you had Cerberus to wh0re out once that compatibility rate reached infinity.
FFVII just had a few glitches: Regen glitch, W-Item glitch, and probably some others that I didn't find about during my run-through of the game back in the 90's.

Final Fantasy VIII was all about the magic Aura, definitely the best magic in the game, the one that gave you your limit break for like 3 or 4 turns straight. The only thing bad about 8s system was drawing during battle, they should have just given you magic rewards to everyone at the end of the battle. Drawing outside of battle from draw points was fine, but during battle it seemed unnecessary. I actually liked the junction system, it seemed complicated at first, but it worked great after I got used to it.

I dunno, drawing magic during battle wasn't a problem for me. Hell, I was level 90 by the end of disc one and managed to get Cura spells at the end of disc one.
Junctioning wasn't as complicated. You kinda just sit there and wonder what magic spells you're gonna junction to what because you don't want to end up using them as using them would lower your stats. So, it kinda makes you take precautionary measures before moving on. And yeah, Aura was the best spell in the game. But, without Meltdown, Aura wouldn't work as well since Meltdown allows for lower defense and lower defense meant Squall could peace you out quicker.
And Exeter was pretty underestimated for Irvine. It was a fairly good ultimate weapon and with the right ammo, it did some beefy damage in the clutch.
And as usual, Triple Triad remains the dopest mini-game in any FF game ever. I still think VIII deserves that revision/remake. It just felt like a flawed game throughout due to me exploiting tons of crap in the game.

I junctioned 100 Death to my weapon. Either insane damage or instant K.O. and this was with Squall. I never did elemental spells since as you get higher up in level, a lot of enemies become immune to elemental spells. Also, drawing kinda breaks the battle up a bit. I don't want to waste time drawing out a GF on a one-time enemy (Fuujin = Pandemona) and costing myself a turn.
Aside from that, great game, lots of flaws, but still playable.

Anyway you slice it, I agree that FFVII shouldn't be remade. Sure, they could make it better... and there are alot of fans of the classic series (even more modern ones, since the release of FFVIIAC and the newer games/anime/etc...), still the game is a classic as it is... I don't think they should keep expanding it anymore. I mean playing through all of th games and watching the movies and anime should be enough, no?

Blue Dragon is going to be a great RPG, it's looking very epic right now. I've also heard it's three discs, because there are so many high definition cut scenes.

Meh. I was never that fond of FF7 anyway. I could see a handheld re-release (for the DS or PSP with no significant changes) like they did for FF 1,2,4,5 and 6 as opposed to a total overhall like FF3 for the DS. However, I wouldn't count on it considering all the spin-offs FF7 has spawned lately. I'd say it's best to put it to rest already. But then again, even a handheld re-release with minimal changes might be enough to put the eager fanboys and fangirls to sleep for once...
