not really. its part of an overall story, and so much else is involved, including things that happened all the way up until then, and even before the story began.

i really hope that the Shipuuden based movie will be better than the first three movies. By the looks of the trailer, this one shows a more serious storyline that hopefully involves Akatsuki tie-ins and maybe reveal a bit more of Naruto's history (ie; family and such)....but then again that may be too much to ask

Anyone who saw the first couple of episodes of Naruto and hasn't figured out that Naruto will die before he becomes Hokage deserves the heart attack they'll experience because of it. Seriously. It's Shonen Jump, not Shakespeare.

Is this serious Desslock? If it were Shakespeare... naruto WOULD die... and probably a horrible and tragic death at that. Some of his most famous plays have the main characters (and a lot of the secondary characters) dying. ie: romeo and juliet, macbeth, othello...

But anyway! no Naruto! LIVE! If the "i'm going to be hokage! believe it!" thing bothers you a lot (it should :p) you should watch the subs where his 'catch phrase' is a less noticeable "dattebayo". Plus, post time skip naruto is much calmer and seemingly more mature. gosh people... give the guy SOME credit! o_O

100% absolutely dead serious. Not as dead as Spike is and Naruto soon will be, but pretty dead serious.

Not all of Shakespeare's plays were tragedies, but maybe the literary reference wasn't as clear as I'd intended. How about O. Henry instead?

Please note that I'm not bashing Naruto in any way. I don't find the dub annoying on the few episodes I've seen. Naruto simply is the show it is, and from what I can tell, it does a good job of being just that.

There are certain narrative conventions regarding the hero legend that are too strong to be denied. Naruto *will* die before he's made Hokage. It's gotta happen. The weight of world folklore and literature won't allow anything else to happen. But when the other characters reflect on Naruto after his death, they'll all give him the praise and respect that they'd give him if he had been Hokage.
