I was thinking about going, but there will probably be too many people... I'd feel out of place...

The Manga Masquerade: Through the Looking Glass
JACON’s "anime prom" is a formal dance that is FREE with your paid admission to the convention.
(Presented in cooperation with Wasabi Anime.)
Time: Saturday, 9:00 PM- Midnight
Location: Great Lakes Ballroom (Main Events)
After a day of walking around dressed like your favorite anime, why not spend the evening getting dressed up? JACON brings back the Manga Masquerade – the formal dance party that took convention goers back to their prom (but in a good way!). This year’s event will be hosted by The Queen of Hearts and her army of cards that have escaped JACON’s Royal Flush Club. There is a dress code for the event, and you can be turned away at the door if you’re not in the appropriate attire. Attendees are also expected to be masked in tradition of a true masquerade.
For those that forget, JACON will have plastic masks available at the door; there will also be face painters available outside the dance to give you a custom disguise for a nominal fee. You can also make a custom mask in advance one of the many mask making panels Friday and Saturday (see your convention guide fortimes and locations.)
Light hors d’oeurves will be served during the event.

TEN WAYS TO KNOW WHAT TO WEAR TO JACON’S MANGA MASQUERADE (2007 EDITION)
1. If it’s something you would wear (or did wear; or wanted to wear) to your high school prom, it is probably acceptable.
2. In the case of cosplaying as a military character from an anime/manga/video game, you must wear the FORMAL military dress. Such examples include Fullmetal Alchemist, Final Fantasy VIII, and Mobile Suit Gundam. (Even though Luffy from One Piece is a “captain,” dressing like him won’t get you in the door.)
3. Kimonos are allowed.
4. Search all you want… Ash Ketchum never wore a tux in a single episode. (Our Goku theory was disproved last year.)
5. Men who don’t come in costume need to wear at least a suit and tie.
6. Nudity in any shape or form will not only keep you out of the event, but may even get you kicked out of the convention.
7. If you intend to cross dress, please make sure it looks good. (For example, Trey Parker & Matt Stone at the 72nd Academy Awards would not be allowed at the Manga Masquerade.)
8. Sneakers are not formal wear. Ever.
9. A fur suit is not formal attire.
10. Use common sense when putting your outfit together for the event… we’re here to help everyone have a good time (within reason.)
