There is a cosplay subforum within the Conventions forum where you'll find a lot of information about this kind of stuff.

I'm going to A-kon (Dallas, Texas) on June 1st as Ootori Kyouya, the guy with glasses from Ouran High School Host Club, my friend is going as Tamaki (the blonde haired main guy), and his girlfriend is going as Haruhi (the Ouran one). It'll be my first time cosplaying, but it should be fun.

There is a cosplay scene in the U.K, but it's not as big as across the pond.

Quite a few good U.K specific forums, if you want the links drop me a pm.

I have, as Riza Hawkeye (FMA) and Allen Walker (D.Gray-man). Right now Im making Roxas (KHII) and two versions Nami (One Piece, Water 7 & Arlong arc).

The best cosplay I saw at Anime Central '06 was Stripper Vash, and his friend as Knives. I also saw a Leorio and Kurapica cosplayer last year too. <3

ONe think I noticed with people... little or no make up. You need to cover up blemishes and use powder to reduce glare off of oily/glossy skin, But I forgot to out it under my eyes and I alwyas have dark bagfs under them...

all i have to say is that highly accurate cosplays arent common. The props can be great, but the person can be fugly. as is the problem with cosplay: few fans have the correct sizes for male or female. but there are some cosplays that are mindblowing.

wouldnt that kind of thing be an interesting scene at a con....:x mixed reactions on an epic scale. the only good thing would be a fight between moe fangirls and the appauled. fangirl war, con X of 2007  the person who would record that could make a fortune

Couldn't be more correct, many of the people you will see cosplaying are fat and very out of shape. Which i find funny because it's the complete opposite of the people they are cosplaying as

Since when were there rules in cosplay stating that you have to have a "supermodel body" in order to cosplay?!!!!!! Many people cosplay because it's fun. It doesn't matter what body type you have just as long as you're having fun. By the way I'm 25, 4'9 and I've been cosplaying for almost 5 years.

...you go girl. unless you're pro, the whole concept of the thing is TO HAVE FUN. screw what other people think.

I completely agree.

However, it's when people wear clothing that is unsuited for their particular body shape/size, it's embarassing for everyone.

im talking about the horrendously awful ones. of course all cosplays cant be perfect. its not possible. but to those who cosplay, good for you. i dont think id ever do it, cause its just not my thing.

I also agree with Ezra.

but theres also another thing: cosplay something different than other people. like a not major character from a not-so-big series. there needs to be variety. like Saya carrying a chicopteran head from Blood the Last Vampire, which would be pretty nice. heck that idea is gold! but i will be one very happy fan if i ever see a 3X3 Eyes cosplay:D

That would be uber sweet. If someone painted on Pai's third eye...

I think I'll try to do that one day. :)

I cosplayed once, this year at Anime Detour, just for the hell of it. I went as Kisuke Urahara from Bleach. It was kind of a pain in the *** in some ways, like carrying the cane around, but I got at least one hug out of it. :naughty:

I've done Miroku both Feudal Era and a modern day version which was fun. I've also done Sagara from FMP one year for a day for the heck of it. This year...I want to do Keiichi Maebara with Rena's weapon from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni for the Anime Central 07' con, but I lack cash to buy the stuff to even make a cheap version of the weapon, but once I make a cheap one and perfect that I may try to make a metal one for more realism, hahahah.

I just did my first--Ed Elric. There's a pic on my profile, but it's tiny--I hope to get it up on my website at some point. I was told I should do Inuyasha next time.

I agree that there should be common sense used when picking your cosplay. It's cool if you're not super skinny, but if you have rolls hanging over the costume, it's time to rethink.

That's one of the reasons I did Ed--I'm short, have long blonde hair, am willing to wrap myself in ace bandages to hide the fact that I'm female, and I do NOT have a supermodel bod, which the layered outfit hides. I need to get some automail, tho.

cosplay is fun to do. I end up feeling energized from it. You do tend to get a lot of attention if its a well-know char of sexy looking. This will be my 2nd year going to connecticon in cosplay. its a smaller con but there is a lot of love shown there.

I do agree that some ppl should not cosplay but its a personal choice. they do end up on the internet to show off what not to do. like the man faye
