I won't go ballistic or anything, but suffice it to say, after how they "remade" Battlestar Galactica, there's personally no way I'll be watching this.

However, what about the rest of you? Is anybody here looking forward to this so-called "remake".

(No offense, but in the the hands of Sci-Fi, this is likely to become yet another generic sci-fi war drama w/ recognizable characters...or worse yet, a sci-fi version of Lost, with the network thinking people won't know the difference. Alex Raymond must be turning over in his grave...)

If they take the serious tone of the Raymond comic strips and the 1979 cartoon series concentrating on Mongo politicts and how Ming holds power over the other nations then it should be rahter good. So long as they make Ming into the Mandarin Chinese terror he was invisioned as I could care less as to the rest of the crew.

Lets hope that it doesn't turn into a Battlestar Gallactica. I think that show is so overrated. Then again, this is Sci-Fi channel were talking about.

I knew you had bad taste in entertainment, but it's worse than I thought if you think the new Battlestar Galactica is bad.

Here. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_Gordon)

Additionally, if you go to the IMDb, there's actually two entries, one for 2007 and one for 2008 (though I don't know how that came about).

(quoted for emphasis)

Did Filmation (the ones behind the '79 series) actually do that?

Additionally, so you're saying that it (the Sci-Fi Channel version) should focus less on sci-fi fantasy adventure and more on politics, while (and at the same time) making Ming an ethnic stereotype (in accordance with today's standards)? In that instance we're looking at a catch-22 here: if they don't use his classic look, then he's just another generic dictator (in accordance with "realism" in "contemperary" sci-fi). Don't get me wrong though. If they want to make him "Asian" looking, then they shouldn't emphasize (for a lack of a better word) the eyes or mustache/beard combo so much...

Still, I personally don't have a lot of hope for this show here. The tragic thing about this is that the Raymond family has no say in the matter. It was Hearst Entertainment (through it's subsidiary King Features Syndicate*) who agreed to this.

(sigh)

*For those who don't know, KFS is a publisher of newspaper comic strips such as...Flash Gordon, as well as Popeye, Blondie, Dennis the Menace, and others. Hearst Entertainment (named for legendary newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst; see, you learn something new everyday...) is their parent company.

The new BSG sucks paretially because it waste such good oppourtunities by just dropping them. That and the fact that the camera crew consist of one hand held sony camera and a camera man with severe Parkinson's disease.

^

Have you read strips or seen the original Flash Gordon serials? The 1980 Flash Gordon movie while fun is not the way it was presented back in yesteryear. If you wanted stupid Sci Fi go read Buck Rogers or better yet watch the series.

All I can say is that the theme song better be Queen's 'Flash', for even if the movie it was made for sucks, the song itself was absolutely fantastic.

I like the 80's movie, its fun. But I can't stand most of Sci-fi channels junk. They used to be cool but not anymore.....why do they show wrestling anyway? Bring back anime geez, its a lot more popular now than it was back when they showed anime. But I guess thats all off topic.

It cost money easier to show wrestling and horrible movies.

yippie. as a fan of the film, I'm mildly excited.
I used to have the theme tune sung to me quite a lot back in school, "Flash" being replaced with Strat.

They've been remaking Flash Gordon since the 1930s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_Gordon_(serial)); this is no big deal..?!?!

You don't understand. This is the Sci-Fi Channel we're talking about. You'll find that many of the people on this forum have found their so-called "original series" output to be unacceptable; the so-called Battlestar Galactica "remake" is no exception, and I suspect that this upcoming Flash Gordon remake will suffer the same fate. This is especially significant since FG is waaaaaaay older than BG (but you knew that, I guess), and since as previously mentioned, the Raymond family has no say in the matter.

Anyhow, there's no need for me to restate what has already been said.
