Anybody watch this? First episode was on at 8.
The footage is pretty stunning, especially in HD.

The Discovery part refers to the Discover channel? I haven't watched any of those learning channels, (especially, oddly enough, "The Learning Channel") since even those channels have turned to reality TV shows.

It's very good. The great white shark segment was too short, though.

Hint: Documentaries are the original reality TV.
I watched an episode using my fancy new cable box and downloaded an episode entitled "Seasonal Forests," which was pretty good. Not very in-depth, and some odd/irritating uses of music, but pretty good, nonetheless.

You know very well what I meant when I said what I said. I prefer they go back to showing shows about how weather works or animals or urban legends or things like that. Not this stuff about a cook going home with some woman every week to help her impress her family...
The spinoff channels like Discovery Health don't help much either, considering it's at least 12 hours a day of shows about maternity complications...

This show was just utterly amazing. Definitely the defining moment in Attenboroughs (sp? :P) career, everything he's done has led to that.
Sure, if you want in depth, then this isn't for you. But this provides by far the best shots of Earth as a whole that I've ever seen.
Fantastic!

The one I love is the Blue Planet:Seas of Life series. That's great footage, and incredible colors of the reefs and fish. Makes me think about getting into saltwater aquariums, and if not, then diving on a reef.

I caught a piece because my father was watching it. I saw the birds of paradise. I thought the part where the african animals trek for water was amazing. The sand storms and funnels. You can see where hurricanes come from.

or urban legends ...
Then why aren't you watching Mythbusters. That show is on Discovery too.
I saw the Science Channel encore of the first three parts. Discovery can put out some fine documentaries.

Watched the original BBC broadcasts back in June (<3 Internets)
I heard the US broadcast has a new narrator, and not David Attenborough. Is this true?

Was Season 2 as good as 1?

yeah, the ending was kinda meh, but the Antony/Octavian rivalry was very well done. it is almost a precursor to I, Claudius up to the point that Augustus and Livia kinda look like younger versions of themselves.
