So, is this going to turn into DBZ with everyone and their moma going Bankai? Ikkaku's bankai was pretty bad *** though. Rukia got pwnd by Grimlock, or Brothers Grimm, or was it Grimjaw or something. Everyone should know that the strongest fighters in the universe will always be easily defeated if you just punch them hard in the gut

Why must people like you relate everything to Dragon Ball Z.
And no, not everyone has bankai, actually
manga
no one new has achieved it in the the manga anyway, since Ikkaku.
Great episode, probably the best so far since they started going back to canon material.

Onoes what will we ever do, someone compared Bleach to DBZ. No, I am sorry, they are not anything alike. Nobody could ever draw that kind of comparison, it was silly of "me" to do so.

Don't make me go Super Ascended Neo Hollow Bankai on you, for telling me I fail. And you fail at failing, so thats like utter total super bankai failure. Its impossible to fail lower then that

Hey! Let's not let this turn into a debate, and stick to what the thread title says.
Everyone does seem to be going bankai. I sincerely hope thats not the case, since as much as I'm all for super strong peoples who kick serious bootay...I was fine when only the capitans and Ichigo had it.

So by everyone, you mean 1 new person.
I meant that in a sense that in the possible future of Bleach, I feel as if most of the characters are going to have bankai/new powers with the assumption of stronger and stronger villains. You don't need to be so uppity about it. Most people relate shounen anime to DB since DB could be considered a "classic shounen anime."
Not EVERYONE has banaki, but it seems as if slowly, more and more characters are showing off "new powers," And following in the words of Lord Timaeus, "Nobody dies in Bleach..."
EDIT: Ikkaku's bankai did look pretty cool though.

I thought the thing with Rukias brother at the end was funny. He probably fit right in with the Shinigami Womens Society, hes kind of Bishie.

As I was watching this episode, I drew several huge relations with DBZ, which can be taken all different ways. My main problem is the fact that there is that higher and higher level thing going on. Everyone seems to get more and more powerful, and to keep it interesting it seems they keep getting random people with more insane powers. Granted, this is nothing like DBZ insanity especially GT, but I feel its getting there. And can someone fill me on how Ikkaku got so ridiculously powerful? Did he not lose to Ichigo, and doesnt bankai take years and years with only ichigo being the exception? Now it seems like some door opened and everyone can learn it so easily.
oh and Cow, it seems you have problems with other people's opinions, just chill

No.
If you want to talk about DBZ VS. Bleach start a thread, if there isn't one already.
There has been a few people who always insist on comparing shounens, obviously there is going to be similarities, I don't even see a need to bring it up on a specific episode thread. If people are going to compare every shounen its going to be meaningless debate. As for what you were saying, 'it seems people keep gaining more power' -- is that not true for most shows? I mean there aren't too many action oriented animes where the characters don't go through some sort of change. By no means is Ikkaku's power insane, seeing as how the Arrancar who was below a rank of 10, still damaged him even in bankai form.
If you want to follow the the stories time line, some time has passed, and there will also be some explanation of Ikkaku, so please people, don't jump the gun.

Seeing as how this thread has gone way off topic, we should watch out, since it will probably be deleted/locked soon. Cow, theres no need to freak out about this, since some people think in some ways, Bleach could be compared to DB based on ideas of how they're both shounen, and have some same similar plot lines in episodes. (same could be said for Bleach and Yu Yu, Bleach and almost ANY shounen. People use DB since most have seen it, and its a more general definition of what a shounen anime is. An example of a action/fighting anime? Dragonball.
Ikkaku isn't allmighty. He's gotten stronger, but I don't consider him gaining bankai anything major. So on this matter, I do agree with Cow. It's new yes, but no big deal.

I am not freaking out, I am blunt, theres a difference. I didn't even use caps lock.
Anyway I don't think this thread will be deleted but lets ensure that.
I want to see the Ichigo Vs. Grimmjaw fight, it should be a good fight.
If I remember the manga time line it wont be for a few more weeks.

awesome episode. Lots and lots of action. Somebody already spoiled it for me about Ikkaku's bankai, so I was just glad they didn't take 10 episodes to get to it (UNLIKE a certain anime we all know). And why was there no blood on Grimmjow's hand after the little stab? Either way, awesome fight, with only more and better ones to come.
P.S. - I don't mean to fan the flames or anything, but if Cow fails at failing, wouldn't that make him a pass?
P.P.S. - That pun was intended, and rightly so!

OK I just caught up to epsiode 118 so excuse me if some of these questions spill over form earlier episodes:
1) How many of the arancar (sp?) are actually Vaste Lords. Aizen's response and the setting imply there are 20, but that really isn't the case since Rukia whacked #16 in 2 secs. Which ones that are now in the real world are Vaste Lords?
2) I'm assuming Urahara's modified souls are carry overs from the filler arc and they have no real existence in the manga world?
3) How the hell does Keigo gain the ability to see the Shinigami? Before everyone who has beem exposed to a supernatural event with Ichigo present has been affected. When did this happen with Keigo (i.e. not the Bitto biting scene in the filler arc)?

1. As far as I know they all are. That one was just a "failure of epic proportions' aparently a tag along if you will. Grimmjaw seems to have dispatched Rukia pretty quickly so they do indeed seem powerful.
2. yes
3. This I don't know.

This episode rocked mainly because of Ikkaku's special surprise. His bankai pretty owns all other bankai when it comes to weapon design. It also fits much better than that spear of a shikai that he has.
Also, it does make sense that Ikkaku has developed bankai by this point, since he and Renji joined at about the same time, I believe, both are pretty skilled, and Renji does have bankai. So it makes sense for him to have it.
Haro!

I do feel sorry for the "Weaker" characters in this type of anime as you know that there never be of any real use against the most powerful/mid level enemy opponents. If i was them i would feel that i was useless but thats the fate of those that walk the path of a supporting character.
I liked Ikkaku's bankai, its a lot better then Renji's so over the top bankai.

now everyone has touch on the subject of ikkaku's bankai and at first when I read this in the manga I kinda shurgged it off and thought well he has a bankai but wouldnt it have been cool if the arrancar killed him before that happened? but anyone that reads the manga knows what happens in this fight so I'm not going to spoil it for you
on a side note is it just me or did the animation team use their bankai around the same time as ikkaku?

alright i'll just spoiler tag the first one
1. only arrancar 1-10 are considered to be true vaste lords. their powers are exponentially greater than #11 onward. later you will find arrancar who were "former vaste lords" and are now numbered from 100 onward. their powers are a bit weaker than vaste lords, but not high enough anymore to make the top 10 strongest arrancar.
2. correct. hopefully they will eventually get phased out of the anime
3. pretty sure she was able to see it early on the the manga, i.e. when orihime first unlocked her powers. i don't think she ever really understood what she saw until she saw ichigo in shinigami form.

I doubt many, if any, of the current crop were Vasto Lordes. I don't think they've said (in the anime, at least) what any of them were before they became Arrancar. I'm guessing most of the Vasto Lordes are hanging back to see how lower level hollows do first.

Lots of the normal humans in the series are gaining the power to see ichigo(by lots I mean Orihime's freind, the tough martial arts one). If we are lucky something awesome will happen with the normal humans.

Just watched 118.
Is the bald guy and Yamichika or whatever his name is a big part of what comes later? I don't remember them being too prevalent in what I"ve already seen in the Soul Society arc, outside of the requisite 'Ichigo pwns them and they respect him' episodes.
Still can't wait to see how Tatsuki unleashes her powers...
And Rukia ain't dead.

The powerful Vaste Lords (#1-10) are Espada. The Espada are the top-ranked arrancar in Aizen's army.

In case you haven't read the latest chapters in the manga, Rukia, Sado and Ishida handle themselves pretty well against the ex-espada - which are supposed to be somewhere around the level of a strong shinigami captain - respectively an espada (Rukia is a master of kidou arts)
I doubt many, if any, of the current crop were Vasto Lordes. I don't think they've said (in the anime, at least) what any of them were before they became Arrancar. I'm guessing most of the Vasto Lordes are hanging back to see how lower level hollows do first.
Not sure about this one, but I remember Hitsugaya explaining the last category of hollows merged with shinigami had the clearest resemblance with humans and were called vasto lords, so i think all of the arrancar are vasto lords, not just the espada...

Actually, it isn't confirmed that all the Espada are Vaste Lorde, I'm sure at least 1, which would be Arrancer #1, whoever he is (sign point to Ulquiorra in my opinion, he's the only 1 to have a real #1 appearance, besides Grimmjow, who's 6). If they all were Vaste Lorde, Aizen would have already used them to destroy Soul Society.

Hitsaguya said that there were three levels of Menos Grande. Vasto Lordes were the strongest level of Menos Grande (and, presumably, all hollows that haven't become arrancar) and yes, the ones most resembling humans. Vasto Lordes are pure hollows that haven't become arrancar yet. He also said that if just ten of them became arrancar, they could annihilate Soul Society.

March 11th, 2007, 07:43 PM
So the arrancar are a combination fusion between shinigami and all the three levels of menos, not just vasto lord. That would explain why Yami is so weak compared to Ulquiorra or Grimmjow.
HitokiriShadow
March 11th, 2007, 08:16 PM
Right. Plus there could still easily be a significant difference from each individual even if they came from the same class. That's why its impossible to tell where they all came from at the moment. I think the current crop are all from the first two levels, but whether its a mix or most from one level, and which, I couldn't say.

So, is it that maybe each "tier" of espada is a fusion of a level of menos grandes with a shinagami? like Ulqoirra (spelling?) with vasto lorde and the weaker ones like Yami and the one Rukia killed with the other two levels?

ARGH, everyone seems to forget that the zaraki's division has strong people in it. If I recall right, ikkaku said that he joined in it for fun. Somewhere they also mentioned that he is captain level, that bankai kinda proved it.

No, its not a fusion process. The Arrancar are basically the opposite of Vizards, but the process seems to be different. They were individual hollows that gained shinigami powers.

think about it from a plotline perspective. as long as the main characters are strong enough to overcome a given obstacle there is little conflict until a threat arrives that poses a significant problem. introducting one or more antagonists that they can simple mow over adds nothing to the plot or characters. any story without a well developed conflict simply goes nowhere. we know Ichigo and his group can overcome certain obstacles (captain class fighters, power gaps...) by introducing the Arrancar as strong as they are it forces character development in order to move the plot.

Well Actualy in the latest bleach capter we find out that the only Arrancar in the Espada that is a Gillian (Lowest Level Menos Grande) Is Number 9 Arroniro Arurueri. This means that all of the other of the Espada are at least the second level of Menos Grande (Forgot the name), Even Yami who seems allot weaker than the others. And if you were wondering which one number 9 is its the one with the real tall Mask covering his whole had (Image Of Him Here Because I Think He's Only Realy been In The Background So Far In The Anime http://www.bleachexile.com/bleach-online/details.php?image_id=33235[/I] (http://www.bleachexile.com/bleach-online/details.php?image_id=33235)
