I will be going to Anime North this year. I can't wait because I have never been to any conventions before but have always wanted to go to this one. I was going to dress up as only one character but now I will be going as two different people. What makes this even more special is that on the 8th of May is my boyfriends birthday, on the 21st of May is my moms birthday on the 22nd of May is my anniversary with my boyfriend AND on May 23 is my 23rd birthday, heh heh just before the convention.^_^

Well I hope you get the money to go. Do you have more then $100??? Theres still time. Maybe you could sell something old you dont use anymore to help or do something that could help you out.

Could you help me out then with something?? What events cost money or do you need to sign up for and how? Besides the cost to get into anime north and the moonlight masquerade dance of course. I know the fashion show on Sunday is free and you dont have to sign up as far as I know.

I've been going for the past two years and saved up all my spending money each year, spending $1,000/ convention on anime lol. I loved anime north 2005, but last year...was terrible. The anime showing rooms were the worst. 2005, I was figuring out which anime was the best, last year i was trying to figure out which anime wasn't the worst...terrible. Also, the dealers put up their prices and weren't as willing to deal...so that is why i won't go anymore...

What hotel are you going to?? If you are going with a group of 10 people or more you can get a group membership which would be $35 for each person or you could get the normal pass for each person at $40 or $50 I forget which. I know you have to pay for a dance ticket which is $12 online I believe and I think one of the masquerades you have to pay for or you have to sign up to go.

WOAH thats a lot of money!!!! Wow your not going anymore because of that?? Pretty crappy reason I would say I mean things change and if you cant get what you want dont pay to have something thats too much etc when you can get it elsewhere probably cheaper... I think if you went you would still have fun.

We've gotten pre-registered...Woohoo. It'll be our first time going to this one, so we're all excited.
However, has anyone else encountered reservation/confirmation issues when booking a hotel room? I talked to the hotel manager of Holiday Inn, and told him the "Anime North '08" password for a reservation in their "convention date block." Everything went through with the reservation, but after he gave me the confirmation number, he said that all the rooms were "blocked out", but would call me if there was an issue...he hasn't called back. Just curious.
Also, has anyone heard when the masquerade tickets are supposed to go on sale? It just says "end of Feb." There's no new info on the site.
Thanks.

Saturday always seems to be the busiest day for activities. The masquerade Ball is that night until 2AM, if tickets are still available. Check out animenorth.com for complete details. Hope it helps.

So, who all went?
We had a lot of fun on Saturday just watching from the sidelines, appreciating all of the hard work and effort put into all of the character costumes/garb of the people walking into the Dealer's Room.
We stopped by the Japanese resturant before going to the dance. The hostess and one of the cooks came over to our table and commented on our VERY traditional Japanese garb. The lady (owner?) said our table manners were excellent for Gaijin. That made us smile/laugh as we nodded and said "Arigato."
My date wore a "Neko Mimi Punk Lolita" outfit complete with bell, ears and a tail. She looked really cute. I made up a ball of yarn for her to carry, but I ended up carrying it. As we were walking along I dropped it once and got an idea. A little later, I threw it past her, and she went running after it excitedly. She picked it up, brought it back to me, then "meowed." The guys who saw her just stopped talking and stared, while some of the girls commented on how adorable/cute it was, while other girls just glared at her with a look of jealousy. The whole situation was just too funny, and we ended up playing fetch probably 15 times or so. One time, she ran over to pick up the yarn, and the wind came up and lifted her skirt, showing off her "Hello Kitty" undies. We all laughed because we didn't know she was wearing them.
The "Free Hug" line at the close of Saturdays events in the main hall was a bit like "Running the Gauntlet", as people blocked our way on two different ocassions. One guy just grabbed my date and hugged her. She wasn't happy about it, and I just about dropped him on the spot. Lesson to learn. If someone doesn't respond to your advances...DON'T DO IT! It might be unwanted and you might get hurt.
The Moonlight Masquerade was "a ball" and was fun to do the Medieval and Rennaissance dances again.
We left Sunday morning to go see Niagara Falls as a few of us hadn't been there. Fun trip...we'll be back.
