Anyone watch the Oscars?

There wer a lot of movies that were interesting that I'll be watching soon.

I'm glad Little Miss Sunshine won best original screenplay.

Eh, I knew it was on, but I didn't bother. What won Best Picture?

The Departed. Also won Best Director, Editing, and adapted Screenplay.

Entertainment besides Black and Ferrell was pretty boring. Dreamgirls? Celine Dion? No thanks.

Unlike past years they have now moved the supporting actor/actress awards to the end of the show where the rest of the highlight awards go giving you no reason whatsoever to watch anything but the final hour.

Nice. Although I disagree with DreamGirls. Great film. Although it might be more because of my background.

No, awards shows are uninteresting to me. If I cared about crap like film editing, prop design, and who X actor wants to thank for their little gold man, I'd.... well, watch the oscars.

Now something more relevant. I was really hoping the Departed wouldn't win best picture but it did. Sigh.

I liked the movie as well. I was referring to a live performance they had. Maybe I'm just not big on concerts.

Oh, right, Yeah, I'm not big on concerts either, but the movie as great. Although I liked it better than the "Its hard out here for a pimp" song that won last year.

I liked how some american indian types were offended by Apocalypto because they think their ancestors were all living in a utopian egalitarian society where everyone got along and loved each other and so forth.

Scorcese got his own monkey off his back, didn't think he would get that many. Thought Letters should of at least got one or more(especially in directing). I mean I liked the Departed but it wasn't Martin's best or at least that good to get a sweep like it did, it was a remake -_-;
Anyway Forest won Jennifer won(both rightfully) so I'm glad.As much as I liked Arkin in LMS I did not think he deserved it over Djimon and Eddy IMO.
Not a complete bust this year.

I have to agree

Al Gore's, An Inconvenient Truth was a snore fest.

Mel Gibson's Apocolypto was a GREAT film, and the work should speak for itself.

I actually liked Ellen Degenerous.

Departed owns though.

There was snakes on a plane!! That weird silhouette thing.

you just might be right. I've had less and less interest in the oscars for a while. It used to be a big deal, now it's just sorta "meh". I like what I like, and no award is going to change my opinion.

Funny story 'bout that.

The first 10 minutes of my Social Studies class was to be talking about the Oscars. Mr. R. asks how many people watch the Oscars.
No one raises their hand. I stand up.

"Mr R, I shall make a womanly bet with you. Sir, I bet you that more people watched Harry Potter last night on ABC Family than watched the Oscars. If I win we get to go to the end of the hallway five minutes before the period ends. If I lose, we have to stay in the classroom five minutes after the bell rings." I turned to the class after he agreed.

"Now how many of you honestly watched Harry Potter last night? And I'll know if you're lying 'cause I know you people."

More than half the class legitmately raises their hand. ^_^

The Oscars don't mean anything, its just a remnant of the old hollywood, they keep it around because its tradition, It doesn't really mean anything anymore.

Okay I confess I didn't watch the Oscars. Not even for the iPhone ad. I waited to see that. It was either watch the Oscars or The Infamous Chill Sisters (K-drama). I chose the latter. Also Ellen didn't make it worthwhile in my opinion. I really liked John Stewart as host last year but I usually don't find Ellen that funny (and yes i cannot spell her last name).

Pan's Labyrinth not winning = Auto Fail.

QFT.

To me it was the biggest shocker in the whole night that they gave best foreign film award to a German movie nobody has ever heard of instead of Pan's Labyrinth. We all knew the Oscars aren't ready for a mexican movie to tie for most awards.

I was dissapointed Kate Hudson won best supporting actress. I feel it was more like of a token black girl award. I can't judge her acting because I haven't seen Dreamgirls (the movie didn't last long on theaters here so I'll have to wait for the DVD), but this is her first film whereas everyone else she was competing against are veterans. I doubted Adriana Barraza was going to win it (could you imagine her giving her thank you note in spanish because her english is poor? That is so politically incorrect!!!), but while this is her first Hollywood film, she has acted in dozens of mexican shows, soaps and movies. My best friend told me she has acted in that cheesefest show "Lo que callamos las mujeres" dozens of times.

I was a bit surprised Eddie Murphy didn't get it, but I agree with the academy because this is the only serious movie he has ever done. I did like him in a prince in New York though.

I haven't seen most of the big gun movies because I spent the little eclipse week these movies stay in mexican theaters in favor of watching mexican movies. Sadly most of the movies I saw were pretty bad. I only liked two out of 4 films. One of them was so boring I slept through half of it. ^^'

Yeah, the entertainment sequences were boring. God, the part where they had segments of movies describing "American culture". What a waste of time. Plus they didn't even put most movies people could identify with true American culture. Blegh.

I like Ellen, but she seemed invisible. And the dumb dancers posing objects, what a waste of time and money. Cut all of that pointless stuff out and the Oscars would have been half as long!!! 4 hours??!! Yeessh.

I loved it when they turned on the music while Al Gore was in the middle of his eco-friendly speech. It just shows that green issues are still so politically controversial in the US. I am kinda interested in seeing his movie but it isn't out yet here.

Too bad Babel lost, but I'm glad it went for Scorcese, the guy had it coming. Iņarritu is a good director, but he should make other kinds of movies for a change.

Last but not least, I totally disagree with Jay Manuel saying Penelope looked great. She looked like a peach colored magpie to me.

I've never watched the Oscars, and the more I hear, the less I see any reason to. Of course, I might have a tiny bit more interest if I had seen more than about 5 movies in the past year.

Also, from what I hear, this was the third least watched Oscar awards ever.

yeah, Jen hudson i think won the pity award.. going from zero to hero on american idol..

departed was a good film, but they completely messed it up if they were trying to reproduce infernal affairs. infernal affairs was 10x the movie the departed was. Scorcose (or however you spell it) won the pity award for director. he was long overdue and he shafted out Clint Eastwood, who should have won for making two incredible war movies

It is a bit of a joke how Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas get snubbed but The Departed wins. I'm not knocking The Departed, I would put the Departed on par with Casino. More on the entertainment side but still better than 95% of everything else.

Its almost as if they hand out awards as a compensation.

Like Daishikaze said, its just a shell of its former self. Almost how the art of being a celebrity has fallen into the gutter.

Britney, Paris, where has the class gone?

1980 sucked because ordinary People which is a bottom A movie beat out the infinately superior Raging Bull and The Elephant Man.

I love The Elephant Man^_^

Anyway, I diddn't watch because nothing really interested me this year. Casino Royale should have at least got a nomination though. That bond movie was a surprise & very well done from its action, story & drama.

I actually wanted Cars to win. It was sooooooooooooooo goooooooooooood. I enjoyed Happy Feet, but honestly I thought Cars was a lot better. I think they just had it win because Fox News said it was about a gay penguin.

I have to look for it, I know it was definitely referred to on the Daily Show on Lewis Black's segment "Back in Black"
Also a Times article (which probably would be unreadable, damn you TimesSelect) made reference to that particular Fox newscast
