I have a friend who looks, talks, and acts like some kind of skater/surfer punk but he plays more computer games then I do, so there's no real stereotypical geek I'd think.

I am not a geek nor a nerd even though I love manga and some anime, this is because..

1. I have friends at school who, to say the least, are not geeks or nerds at all.

2. Hate to say, but I get really bad grades. (trying to improve)

3. I do not get sexually aroused by hentai.

4. Does not own any kind of anime clothing.

5. If I am a nerd, I would atleast be a Kohsaka type Otaku. (genshiken)

It's a PC in the original sense of the term, which is "Personal Computer", but these days that term means "Windows/Intel Platform Personal Computer". The Commodore 64 predates that standard by a long way. It dates back to a time before IBM's PC/XT became the de facto standard.

Well, i was never a nerd/geek in school, i went to parties, started smoking weed and drinking young, was popular with girls at my second highschool, always had plenty of freinds, neva been beaten up, am a hip hop head, used to be in a graffitti crew, i go to hip hop shows, an all that.

However, my likeing of anime has become a bit of an obsession( i dont actually watch anime all that much, but iam addicted to it, as far as collection stuff, downloading, net surfing, etc), i have lots of wallscrolls an figures, i got a p.c and the internet prolly like 5 years ago, i spend alot of time on my p.c, i talk to girls on the internet, dont have a girlfreind, live in 2 rooms at the back of my mums house(iam 25), am in a battlefeild 2 clan, i like RPG's, i dont like to dance,i go to anime cons, etc.

Prehaps i turned into one? ha ha.
Sh*t, i love hip hop and anime, i love first person shooters and RPG's, i go out alot to pubs an pool halls an stuff, but i dont go clubbing or danceing, i only hook up with the odd girl an have a ahh, attatchment/commitment/relation ship problem. Um, i dont do drugs, but love to drink, both socially and alone.

So, i am but i ant? meh, iam happy, i have a open mind and multiple hobbies.

I read comic books
I watch anime
I play Street Fighter at a high level
I own a white Japanese Sega Saturn
I collect action figures(U.S. and Japanese)
I have seen all of Star Wars
I own Jonny Quest, Star Trek TAS, and Spiderman '67 Collection on DVD
I own all of the DCAU Bruce Timm works on DVD. EVERY single one.
I wear comic book character t-shirts every now and again
I could name five pair of Dunks off the top of my head
I watch baseball religiously and can memorize stats at the drop of a hat
I use a condom....wait...no I don't. Hispanic stupidity ftw.

I'm a major bookworm, so that makes me a nerd I suppose. I'm also a casual gamer and enjoy tweaking my computer from time to time and will soon get into building my own electronic devices.

Yes. And there's a difference between nerd and geek.

Things that make me a geek:

-I play...
* D&D
* World of Warcraft
* Magic the Gathering
* Dreamblade
* D&D miniatures
* Horror Clix (I own Hero Clix but don't really play it)

-I not only watch anime, I have over 200 DVDs and 100 volumes of manga, not to mention the various action figures, posters, etc.
-I own the Ultimate Spider Man collection
-I have a World of Warcraft t-shirt with the Horde emblem on the back.
-I spend copious amounts of time posting on forums and Usenet groups
-I'm running a panel at an anime convention next month
-I was previously a Computer Networking major and assembled my own computer (and modded my box)
-I play dating sims and visual novels.
-All my friends in high school were D&D/Magic/Anime geeks, and most of us were bullied mercilessly at one point or another.

...actually, it would probably be easier to list the things that DON'T make me a geek.

A nerd is someone obsessed with academics and academia, a geek is one with obscure interest. I blur the line a little though; I have the Periodic Table of the Elements taped to my wall and love playing chess.

Now, if you'll excuse me, it's almost time for Friday Night Magic at my local gaming store.

Since this has turned into a "what makes you a geek" thread, I guess it's my turn.

- I have a 20 GB folder full of anime music and J-pop.
- My room is wallpapered with anime posters/pictures/wallscrolls.
- My bookshelf contains hundreds of volumes of manga, mostly shoujo.
- My shelves hold about 2,200 hours worth of anime.
- I did the math for the above.
- I play RPGs and dating sims religiously.
- I have a small ponytail that I try to style like Takuto from Full Moon wo Sagashite.
- I have cosplayed before.
- I'd rather spend a day watching anime than hanging out with a friend.
- I have an all-female Yugi-Oh! deck of cards and have never lost with it.
- Scattered around my room are multiple computer parts.

I could think of a lot more but I think that's more than sufficient. Throughout high school, though, only a small handful of people actually knew I was like this. Because of the way I look and act you would never guess what my hobbies were.

Same for me, people don't believe I watch bleach or any other anime.

-I have hundreds of hours of anime.
- I can read manga for days
-I'm the only person in school that will pick up a copy of wallstreet.
-I'm in the media center more often then most
- man-faye is on my myspace.
- I post on AN a lot.
- I won't listen to J-pop, but I love Japanese food and culture.
... I think I look somewhat geeky.

Old Ape Face
February 9th, 2007, 04:39 PM
-When I'm at school i spend more time in the Mac lab then class time
-I play Wow any chance i get.
-I know more about Ghost in the Shell, as well as Masamune Shirows other works better then anyone I know personally, and i haven't even seen or read Dominion Appleseed or Orion.
-I own one of his art books.
-I complain about movies based on video games and how they ruin the physics of the game itself.
-I'm more about talk then show.
-despite my lack of tyeing Ability I'm quite knowledgeable about technical stuff.
-I'v memorized every line in Lord of the Rings Two Towers movie.

Denial, you need to embrace your inner geek. Take it, own it, display it in public despite what jealous douche nozzles think. I realized a long time ago that 99% of people will tell you they hate something you like because they are pissed off you are happy, don't ever let anyone take away what makes you happy, unless it is Loli because then you're sick. - Enjoy anime.

- Don't play game. It's expensive here and I'm not really good at it. ^^;

- Like to surf on the internet.

- Enjoy to post in a forum I'm interested in.

- Like technology gadgets.

- If I am interest in something, I will looked for more information in the internet. Though back there I rarely go to library. Internet make things easier.I rarely remember the information though aside a small fact in there. My family used to tell me that when I was little...and when people discussing something, I will run to my room and get a book/magazine concerning that topic and run back to show those book to people to support my discussion. ^^;;;

- I log in internet everyday. Sometimes I plan to do something else yet I forgot and click connect automatically. T_T

I don't think I'm smart or intelligent enough to be a nerd or a geek though. I was also a bad student back there. ^^;

Yu-gi-oh is the one that creates the concieted 8-12 year olds, I don't recall seeing anyone tonight that was under 16 (besides a kid of one of the participants).

No magic does it, back in my youthful days when I used to travel about to tournments there were always the 12 year olds who thought becuase they were rated on their local circuit they should not have to talk with you. At my old FLGS it was mostly > 20 year olds who played Magic. It was that way across the state as well. I have found I have very little patience for asshattery in my old age, miniature games offer the lowest ratio of *** hats in any realm of gameing I've encountered.

I will admit to finding anime an video game girls attractive, i think alot of ppl lie about that, when they disagree. But , more attractive than real? nar.

Yeah, I know... but... NAH. I cant seen a girl too innocent, too pretty and too cute in real life. NO WAY!

Maybe in movies and series Yeah, or if you've seen a hollywood star but in ordinary life you only seen girl just ordinary, lets face it! Its a fact of life, thats why animes created...

This is how I make my millions. I will invent a method which will allow people to punch others in the throat via TCP/IP.

If you know what TCP/IP is, you might be a geek.

yushire
February 10th, 2007, 10:53 AM
Naah, it even teach us to our high school class, TCP/IP means Transfer Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, its where your address should be. We, internet users have own set of IP addresses and its unique in every server, and its coded in numbers such as 120.89.356.81 as an example so as long as you know the IP address of the server, you can chat with that server or do anything with it. You can even hack to it and messing the files...

Hi.

As a professional on the subject, my description of China includes the entire PRC, Taiwan, Tibet, Hong Kong and Macau included. But if you want I may be willing to share Hong Kong and Macau. The mainland, Taiwan and Tibet are mine though.

I will gladly share Hong Kong. My cantonese is a little rusty though. lay ho dai lo tai shi urrrr. I'm sorry I mixed in the mando there....

On the topic of nerdiness. I used to think I was a nerd, or at least wanted to be one, but then I went to college and I saw what true nerds were. I want no part in that.

yup.
you can't "wait" for the right girl to come along, you have to date and look around a bit first. Then you'll know when the right girl comes along. Of course with your action plan you'll be 57 by the time you find the right girl, and she'll Be a 52 year old chain smoker with grey hair and missing teeth.

February 15th, 2007, 09:56 AM
that never explains everything you know, neXus you know... Then why theres a computer nerd/geek then?

For all I can say, even though they have children and theyre parents, the ones in cosplays and anime conventions are considered geeks...

ummm....what? That wasn't evening close to being a cohesive thought, let alone proper English. I can't tell if you're agreeing, disagreeing, making constructive critique, or simply babbling.

However, if I can make an observation of my own (given this astute post), I would have to say that you're a dork, because geeks and nerds can structure words and ideas into complete sentences.

Not quite what I meant. I mean, yo you gotta go for the young ones as they've been "used" less. Its more socially acceptable if you're their age, so take advantage of your age while you can.
The more you know.

It is funner to be a nerd, bcause all it means is that you have some guilty pleasures and know a lot of things.

A geek is a true patriot, somebody who makes nerd-ism their lifestyle at the expense of his/her social life. Those are my definitions anyway.

No, i'm no geek. I mean, just because i'm 200lbs overweight, play on the computer 26 hours a day, ignore my real life friends to meet online ones, dumped my girlfriend in real life so i could spend more time with my computerized one who could turn out to be a 45 year old man on the other end (but i'll take his word for it that he's a girl), and have seen more sunlight as a fetus in the womb than in my entire life, that doesn't make me a geek or nerd.

The only way you can be a geek is if you work for Best Buy, drive a stupid looking volkswagon bug, and overcharge people for fixing their computers when really you should ever be allowed near one due to your lack of intelligence.

Tunare willing, I hope so.

There's a chill that runs down my spine when I see how extreme the Metrosexual mystique is willing to go. It seems almost unbelievable how preadolescents hair up normally, and then revert to nearly as hairless as Mr. Bigglesworth by the age of 20.
