I'm having a technical problem, and this forum always seems to help me when i'm having a technical problem, so here i go...

My Frostwire closes all the time on its own when i try to open an image after it's done downloading. It also sometimes closes when I try to open a song.

Also, sometimes when i have Frostwire open and I open winamp, frostwire closes.

this is the message i get

"FrostWire has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

It asks if i want to send an error report, then it closes.

Is anyone else having this problem and/or is there a solution?

It sounds like the application became corrupt. If you insist on a peer-to-peer program like Frostwire (which is admittedly more stable than Limewire or Bearshare), do a complete uninstallation, and then reinstall it. Be paranoid of files you download containing spyware and viruses. If they're oddly titled or timed (in the case of music or videos), avoid.

Your best bet, of course, would be to avoid that method, and use torrents.

I uninstalled it and reinstalled, but am having the same problem. Do you recommend any particular torrent thingy?

Did you do a complete uninstall? Simply clicking "Uninstall" in the Control Panel only removes the program. Frostwire search information and whatnot is still stored on your computer, so you should check your drive for any remnants left behind (click on My Computer, your hard drive icon, and then Program Files) and delete them.

If you want to make the switch, download uTorrent. After you've done that, you can find torrent files at http://www.torrentspy.com.

It might take some configuring initially (the torrent program has to "port forward" to allow decent download speeds -- some peoples' routers will do that automatically, and others' will have to set it up themselves, in which case I can give you a site with instructions for that), but the effort is worth it in the end, as the variety of files available put Frostwire to shame.

I'd like those instructions, thank you. =)
I'm computer illiterate, in case you haven't noticed.

http://portforward.com/

If you're lucky, your computer will already have that set-up for you, but if not, there are tutorials there.

If this all seems too overwhelming, don't completely submerge yourself in everything at once. Do it step-by-step a little bit everyday. It's worth the trouble.

Fortunately uTorrent gives you a nice clear indication of whether your ports are set up properly. If you get a green light in the status bar, you don't need to do anything else.

I downloaded a 900 mb file in about 2 hours, is that good or normal, or bad?

edit: without doing port forward.
edit 2: and I have a cable modem.
