I ask because within this year I'll be moving to Jasper, GA, and since I'm from FL I won't really have that many people I know around. I'd like to meet other anime people up there when i do move so at least I'll know I'm not the only weirdo around. I reallly don't know what all the differences will be up there in comparison to FL, and we're moving because of rising costs here and because family is up that way. I'd just like to meet some people of like minds when I move and hopefully make some good friends along the way. ~Angela

Hello? Anyone there?

Jasper is north of my home now, maybe about 2 hours or so.
It's different than Tampa Bay - probably a lot more 'small town' feel to it. I think I've only been to Tampa once, and it was years ago (I think I may have been when I just started high school...), so I'm not sure how different Tampa is from Tampa Bay. It's mountainous, with occasional snow in the winter (I don't think it's that much, but I'm used to Lake Effect snow from the Great Lakes region). I'm sure it'll be a fair bit cooler in the summer, too. Maybe more humid because of no ocean breeze (Yeah, hope you don't mind being land-locked).
Culturally, it's probably not much different than northern Florida. Jasper is very much in the 'Red' State mindset. Sorry I can't offer more details, I typically don't make it up there that much.

I have been up to jasper several times recently, and it's very nice as far as climate, people, and the slower development goes(because florida is out of control with development). It's actually quite nice to be in the woods so to speak, we'll have a few acres, and there's plenty animals around. I'll have to get used to being land-locked, but I do hear that there are some nice big lakes up there, so that'll do.
Yeah, Ive heard about the red state thing before. Actually that's something I don't like, but I'll have to manage. Are most people our age like that too, or are they more progressive?
I'm not all out liberal, but I tend to be moderate progressive on most issues.

Yes, Lake Allatoona is probably closest and it's alright (for a man-made lake), but it's nothing compared with the ocean or the Gulf.

Hard for me to say for sure; I've lived in Metro Atlanta all of the time I've lived in Georgia. I'm fairly sure there are some progressive minded folks up there. There may be a hold out of Democrats still there (typical of North Georgia), still. If you don't push it, then I can't think of anything bad coming out from it. At our age in the metro ATL, I see a lot of libertarian-thinking people (more than I expected) and every range of the spectrum. Like I said, if you don't push your side over the other all the time, I don't think anything bad will happen. I'm a fairly hard-core Libertarian myself and I've made friends who are moderate rightists to hard-core leftists. I just accept we'll never agree on politics and I leave it at that.

That seems very reasonable.:) I don't think I'll have any problems. I also noticed too that no matter the differences, most people I've met are very loving, and that's always a good thing. Thanx again for replying.:)~Angela

No problem. Maybe once you get moved and settled we can hang out some time? Plus, there's always Anime Weekend Atlanta in September.

Sure, I'd love to meet up and hang out with you guys:) I'll be about 40 minutes away from Atlanta, suki, so you'd be fairly close. Thanx BTW for the link! Got the two Dir En Grey Cd's! Loved the Vulgar album.
Don't know how soon I'll be up there, but it will be within this year, hopefully within the next few months from now.~Angela

Will do! BTW, where do you guys hang out up there?
Oh, and I found out Kennesaw isn't that far from where I'll be. My Uncle has a dentist he goes to there, so it can't be that far. So I might be closer than 2 hours.~Angela

I was looking at Google maps to the exact position of Jasper, and there's a very good chance I'm wrong in my time calculations. I might have been stuck on calculating time based on my drive to work - ~30 miles takes an hour or so in Atlanta traffic. Going the other way probably isn't quite the same case.
Typically, I "hang out" at friends house's or the University as I usually only have free time between classes and on the weekends, but there are places to go. In Kennesaw, I know of a few movie theaters, a large mall, plenty of restaurants; a lot more once you get into Marietta.
