View Full Version : USPS shipping problem....

I was wondering if someone here could help me with something.
I placed an order for some books from an online store a while back. It was taking forever to get them, so I emailed the sender and asked them if it was normal for it to take that long. They said I should have gotten it a long time ago. They looked it up on the USPS site and it said it was delivered back on January 25th. I was confused since it should have been here days ago. It was then I realized that I made a big mistake. I accidently selected for it to be sent to our old address at the house we used to live at.
So, I go to the old house, knock on the door, and ask them if they got it. They said no box had came. I know they could be lying, but they didn't seem like the type that would lie.
So I am very confused about the whereabouts of this package. I called USPS to track it, but they say they can't use the number I have (it's too long for a tracking number). The number I have is the confirmation number, and they said they can't use that. I emailed the sender again and asked for the tracking number, and he said the tracking number is the same as the confirmation number. so, I have no idea what to do now.
Has anyone ever had this happen and can give me some guidance as to what I should do? Do you know if it's likely that I'll get this package or not? Thanks in advance.

Thats odd, the confirmation number should match. You sure he diddn't give you a UPS confirmation number?
If you don't mind could you show the number?

The number works on the website and says it was delivered, but when I talk to the customer service, they say a confirmation number won't work and they need a tracking number.
I guess there is no harm in showing the number, right? It is:

"Your item was delivered at 11:27 AM on January 25, 2007 in VILLA RIDGE, MO 63089."
Is VILLA RIDGE, MO 63089 where you live now or is that your old address? Or do you live in the same city so you can't tell?
I could be wrong but is it possible the package was re-directed to your current address? I don't even know if the post office does that.

I used to live in Villa Ridge, but we moved to a different town that's very close to it.
I am not sure if it was redirected...if it was, it probably would have been here by now, don't you think? Also, it says it was delivered. If it was being redirected, maybe it would say something different?
I appreciate you trying to help, Levon.

It could be being reprocessed at the moment. The people could have stamped it like "return to sender" or "redirect" or something; if that's what happened it could take days before anyone realizes where it actually needs to go.

Do you mean the USPS people would have done that? If so, then maybe it's going back to the sender.
I did go back to my old house and demand my stuff. I said so above. :P

Against my better Judgement i ordered some Guitar Equipment a bit back, about 6 months or so, and i used USPS. (partly because i didnt want to pay 90 dollars for UPS to ship it) Basically the package never arrived, untill about a month or so later i found it in my neighboors bush, soaking wet.
USPS? Never again.

How long ago did you move? Did you forward your mail? If you did it goes something like this. Your mail is sent to your old address, it arrives at your old local post office, it gets sent back to the local distribution center (probably a major city), then it gets sent to your new address. Since you didn't move too far you should have the same distro center and shouldn't take too long, but USPS has crummy service so who knows. I joined a lousy DVD rental by mail service for a month and in that time they lost two discs I sent back. I got an e-mail saying they received one disc three months later. The package was scanned at the post office, that's probably why it shows as delivered.

We moved on September 30th of 2005. The lady at the post office said that they stopped forwarding mail, but would probably return it back to the sender. I contacted the sender and they said if they get it, they will ship it out again.
The woman my PO is helping me do some research on the box. Thanks for the help everyone!

So did you finally get your package, DazzleKitty?

Nope, I never got it. :P But, the lady at our post office thinks she knows where it may be. At our old house, they had these mailboxes where they put large packages. They had to be opened with a key. So, if you got a box, they would put the key in your mailbox so you can go open it. Well, it turns out that the key is missing, so we can't unlock the mailbox it's supposed to be in. Normally, when you open one of those boxes, you cannot take the key out (you need another key to take the key out, heh). So we know that someone didn't take the package and key and then ran off with them. But since the key is gone, I have to wait a couple weeks until they make a new one. The lady at the post office will tell me if she finds it or not.

I hope you will find it soon, DazzleKitty. I will be so angry and upset if this happened to me.
