Im not very good with computers, and I just want to ask for some help about my internet. I just recently started having this problem, my internet became very very slow. When I click on the IE shortcut, it takes 8 seconds for the internet screen to pop up, and when I go to websites it takes 15 seconds for them to load. I ran Norton and Ad-Aware and I had no spyware nor viruses. Though, I am running Bittorrent it shouldnt be this slow. Even when i pause my downloads the internet is still slow. Its not my internet provider's problem because I called them and they said everything was fine, I did a speed check and everything was fine. Help please, slow internet sucks.

What is your connection type? Do you use a router or a firewall? Have you installed new software or hardware recently?
We need more information than "my internet is slow".

^What did the speed results say? It could be a number of things. Could be the router modem, computer, ISP, so many possibilities.

If IE is taking longer to load than usual, it sounds like your computer is at fault, rather than your internet connection. I'd advise you to get rid of Norton, since it's just an enormous glutton for system resources. Replace it with NOD or AVG. Other than that, try defragging, or if it's really bad, a complete reinstall.

Im running on cable internet, my download speed is 4000 ish kbps, upload speed is 360 ish kbps. I was using a router, but the internet guy said try changing to a modem and see if the problem still exsists. (it does)

its nothing serious. you mentioned the problem when you posted. bittorrent programs can sometimes eat a lot of system resources. also even if its not using the full extent of your connection it can still slow you browsing down pretty bad. not sure why but it happenes to me all the time and i have T1.
you should try running torrents while you sleep of just deal with the slow down. i guess defragging is a good idea too.

The internet guy is so full of it his eyes are brown. You'd been getting your normal speeds with this router before, so it worked once. You're still getting a connection, so it's not broken. When ISPs employ morons to work these lines it really pisses me the hell off. Next thing ya know, they will tell you to turn off your firewall, see if that fixes the problem.
What are your normal speeds? I know that in this country, cable internet is a contended service, so it could just be that your cable company don't have the capacity on their back-end pipes to supply you with your full speed right at the moment. They wouldn't tell you that, of course, because then you'd get mad. They'd just hide it from you and say that everything is peachy-keen, and the problem must be at your end.
Lying, cheating no-good... *inaudible stream of invective*
ISPs in my experience are dishonest companies.

I told you already, that is a problem with your computer, and NOT with your internet.

Holy ****, you hit dead on.. THATS EXACTLY WHAT THE BRITISH DUDE TOLD ME!!
"Uh sir, maybe you can try turning off your firewall for a day and see if the problem still goes on"
"Sir, Its not your internet because I've ran a check and the internet is running just fine, maybe you can run norton and adware and see if that helps, if not you should go bring your computer to your local bestbuy and see if they can see whats wrong."
on a side note, the first time I ran bittorrent and downloaded a anime, my internet worked fine. it just started 2 days ago.

It could be because other users of the same high-speed service are just taking up more of the bandwidth. Not much you can do about that besides switching to another service provider.

I click on the IE shortcut
You're using Internet Explorer. You do know that right.
It's a piece of ****. Also your internet has nothing to do with how fast your program opens up.

i have the same problem as the OP. for the last month or so it takes at least 20 seconds after the initial click of firefox for it to finally load the page. after that it runs fine when i open another tab/window, unless i close all and open a fresh window then it takes a long time again. but like everyone says it's contributed to the comp basically dying and being bogged down by unnecessary stuff. i waiting for my bro to purge it and do a fresh install.

At random times my browser just doesnt load. Sometimes when I reply to posts on here, my internet decides to not respond for a while but I can still use MSN and other applications. I dont experience game lag for anything I play, the browser just doesnt respond for a few minutes. I know the problem you all are having, and it seems to be only occuring as of late.

Option 1: DL Firefox or Opera instead. IE is retarded. Opera has a torrent program built in and I'm sure you can get one for Firefox, if that's maybe the problem. Bittorrent sucks, I use uTorrent.
Option 2: Backup your music, pr0nz, and other stuff you want to keep and restore your PC to factory settings...using IE or just a PC in general you probably have viruses, spyware and other nasties anyway.
Option 3: Buy a Mac.
List probably goes from least effective to most.

um... how recently did this start happening?
It's not something simple like
"IE used to start up fast"
[Windows "helpfully" decided to automatically "upgrade" IE6 to IE7 for you]
"IE starts up slowly now"
??

^ I just have an easier, better time with it. It may be the program and it may not be. I'm not so savvy either.

Well, I mean is it fast? Because Im getting REALLY annoyed with my bitttorrent. Im downloading a .hack series which is 27 eps and its taking 10 days. Is it normal? And is uTorrent less memory?

It depends how many people are seeding and at what rate you are uploading, lol. It's completely normal for DL's to take that long, especially based on how popular they are. Took me only a day to get EVERY pokemon episode but for some reason, it took my over a week to get all the Beatles CDs.

Umm i was wondering since there is a option to make your torrent priority to low-med-high. If i make it high will it go faster?

Yes, but I think that that is more for uploading? I'm not really sure. It might depend on your app.

EVERY Pokemon episode?O_O Do you mean the original RAW in Japanese or do you mean the dub? I've been keeping up with them as they've been aired in Japan, but... I don't have EVERY Pokemon episode in its original format. What exactly did you mean by "EVERY" though? Part of a season or the whole series?
