I'm just curious about any other AN members who have Phobias. If you feel like you want to share your fears, come here. :)

Personally, I have a fear of falling through the floor. I dont know if its named.. but its there. I always walk really lightly because I imagine mentally that there is a chasm beneith me wherever I go. Even on roads! And dont get me started on Japan Rail.

It could have stemmed from falling through a glass table when I was younger, but I dont see that being the cause. Maybe I just don't remember the exact trauma.

I dont have any phobias that I know of. But that falling through the floor ones of yours is pretty interesting. I find myself trying to walk reall softly but I dont think Im going to fall through

That seems like a reasonable assumption for the cause of your phobia.

I have no phobias that I'm aware of. I imagine that I would feel uncomfortable floating in the middle of the ocean for various reasons, but that's probably the only thing I can think of that would come close to being a phobia.

I have a phobia of decently lofty heights (usually a few floors above the ground; plane heights are no problem, etc) to where I prefer to be grasping a railing constantly or better yet, not standing near the edge. Other than that, not much phases me. Although after I watch zombie stuff I always check under the bed. I have no idea why, but I always have a sneaking suspicion that a rotting hand will grab my leg as I hop into bed.

I have a fear of riding in elevators, stemming from staying in a place where the elevator was very old and got stuck almost every single day when I was very young. The fear has lessened over the years, I used to go into panic attacks if I had to take an elevator but I do better now. I'll still avoid taking an elevator if at all possible.
I also have an irrational fear of spiders. It's enough to make me never ever want to leave Alaska, unless it's to another arctic place where there are practically no spiders of the large and/or poisonous types.

Not sure if this is classified (hey if phobias that go by race exist, this should have more credit to it) have a unaturally frightened reaction to people doing anything abnormal to their eyeballs, be it turning their lids inside out, vibrating their corenas, w/e. I literally jumped and shrieked out loud one time at someone who did it unexpectedly. Yet I have no problem with organs, blood, corpses, ect. And yes, I mean physically in my presence, though the latter cadavar(ha) was of course in a funeral home. Not the same as being torn up and dead, but I'd probabally be more saddned/fearful than digusted/fearful to the point of phobia.

@Len, yes I know. It's still irrational as I grew up in Alaska where the most dangerous spider is the Brown Recluse and as long as you keep your hands out of the wood pile you're pretty safe.
In the third grade my class had a pet tarantula. The teacher could never get me near the thing, much less hold it as most of the rest of the class did. Disgusting! I get chills just thinking about the spider aisle at pet stores. Urgh.

Im not too fond of being in the same room as snakes. I can watch them on TV, and look at them behind glass though. In middle school someone brought in a really huge snake and I wouldn't even touch it even when we were allowed to and was safe to. Not to mention I get jumpy when Im hiking on a trail and I see small harmless snakes slithering across.

Spiders are nice and fuzzy. They're also soft, so it's nice to pet them.^_^ The only ones I don't pet are the ones that don't look so soft...-_-; I also don't like it if they bite me... the venom can be nasty, varying from spider to spider.

I have arachnophobia and acrophobia. Tho my acrophobia does give me extra thrills while I'm riding the "fear fall" or the "roller coaster" when I visit the amusement park.

Ahh yes, I also fear doctors operating a surgery on my organs opening up my chest and stomach without giving me any sort of sedation and while I'm awake. I'm also afraid of someone holding a needle and slowly stabs my eye with it

ffl
January 31st, 2007, 08:59 PM
Caterpillars... hm. I don't lay on the ground because I don't want to have bugs getting into places they shouldn't be, mainly my body, so I can't say I've had a caterpillar crawl on my face, let alone my nose. The feeling of all of their tiny feet moving across the skin of your arm though... that's quite a ticklish feeling.^_^ Yes, caterpillars are nice too, because they're soft. The prickly ones can be annoying to deal with, because they don't really like people petting them, but I'll manage to do so every once in a while anyway.

I'm also afraid of someone holding a needle and slowly stabs my eye with it

Just don't think about someone holding a needle in that way and you should be good.

Since people are bringing up bugs again, this seems to be going the way of the bug topic that I started some time last year... or maybe it was the year before. Anyway, it's getting buggy.:)

I wouldn't call a fear of spiders irrational at all. Those things are my arch-enemies. Seriously...

1.They can walk on walls and ceilings. That gives them the upper edge against a person.

2. No bones. Knock a spider off a 10 foot ceiling and it walks away like nothing happened. Brush a spider off trying to kill it, no dice. (kinda wrong here)

3. They wrap their victims in a ******* cocoon and DRINK THEIR BLOOD(was wrong here). What is there not to be afraid of here.

4. When they lay an egg, they really lay an egg. I don't know the highest number, but on average several hundred spiders come out of an egg sac. WTF.(wrong here too)

5. They have 8 legs(really mobile, and gross) and 8 eyes. Why on earth do you need 8 eyes. Have you ever seen a spider's... face? That's some disgusting stuff right there.

6. Some are poisonous(black widow for example), so good luck if you get bitten by something 1/1000000 of your size(I made that number up).

7. They can spin a web out of their ***. This means they can dangle down from the ceiling and get you directly. I have never confirmed this, but I heard the stuff is tougher than kevlar. Please no one confirm that for me.

So yeah, if there's one creature to be afraid of, I think the spider is a pretty good choice. Of course there's still worse out there.

Edit- Mine is clowns. Saw Attack of the Killer Clowns when I was a little kid. Nuff said.

They're called "exoskeletons," and they still are technically skeletons. The reason they can survive a long fall is due to their small size and, in turn, light weight.

They don't drink the blood of their prey, they inject venom and digestive fluids into them to liquify the innards, then suck it all out.

Spiders lay eggs and most wrap them in a protective layer of silk. They don't lay one giant egg.

And the spinarets that produce the silk aren't their rectums.

Techincally, but I'll give you this one.

They don't drink the blood of their prey, they inject venom and digestive fluids into them to liquify the innards, then suck it all out.

Ok so they don't just suck the blood out, they get all of it, thanks for that.

Spiders lay eggs and most wrap them in a protective layer of silk. They don't lay one giant egg.

This is actually new to me, thank you for that unpleasant correction.

And the spinarets that produce the silk aren't their rectums.

Come on, that one was sarcasm and you know it.

Spider silk is, proportionally, stronger than steel. So if you could make a tiny thread out of steel it would be weaker than spider silk. But it’s still a tiny thread they snap fairly easily (unless you’re a fly)

I'm afraid of everything medical. And I can't deal with blood if it's not my own. I never see doctors unless I think I'm dying.

I've had to stop watching some anime shows after the first episode because of the content, even if they're really good... like "Monster" (surgery), "Full Moon Wo Sagashite" (tumours) or "Karin" (too much blood)...

Strangely enough, I'm perfectly ok with Samurai movies (slice! slice! blood spraying everywhere!), ok with preparing raw meat for cooking (happily rips the insides out of a chicken), and I'm not one of those super-cleanliness types.

I hate Red Bull because it smells like hospitals, too.

I also have a phobia about the high jump. As in the athletic event. But I very rarely have any contact with that.

And I'm scared of Soluzar's fear of Prons being scared of him. I mean, just think about what that means! [terror]

I am afraid of bugs but as long as they leave me alone that's fine. Cockroach is the exceptional though. I'm scared of it to the point that I can get panic attack every time I saw it. Because of this, I am also scared of the dark too because that's when I usually found them. I used to wake up and found a big roach clinged to the cabinet next to my pillow, I turn on the light in my room every night since then.

I'm also afraid of stair that is very steep because there were times I fell down the stair in the past. ^^;

Acute arachnophobia and minor fear of heights. When I was 15, I used to go into a fear-induced state for no reason because I felt "a presence". The first time I had it was the most disturbing event in my short life.

A serious post now. I'm not good with heights. It falls short of being a real phobia, but you won't catch me climing up a tall ladder unless I really have to. I also get incredibly anxious about filling in forms. Don't ask me why, I just know that paperwork fills me with dread... unless it's unrelated to me. I could fill in forms at work, when I was taking a customer's details without a problem. I'm afraid of meeting new people. Once I know someone, I'm sociable enough, but meeting someone for the first time is just... horrendous. That's why I haven't always done as much dating as I would like to.

Cockroaches. I don't remember being just Crazy Afraid of them when I was younger... Like, I remember there was this Cockroach in the 7th Grade...Well, the Cockroach wasn't in the 7th Grade, Of Course...*Cough* Grammar is Fundamental. Anywho, It was like in the Girls' Locker Room before gym, and I saw this Cockroach with like a staple stuck on one of its hind legs. It was moving Super Slow, and those things move like Greased Lightning, so it must've been hurt bad. And, I remember getting really close to it...like maybe within two feet. I swear to Someboby Else's God, I stared at that Cockroach for like the longest time...Not really, 'cause we only got like 10 minutes to change. I actually almost touched it, too. And like, I remember I said something like, "I would help you, but I'm scared. Sorry." For Real. I wonder what would have happened if someone had walked up on me talking to a Cockroach....I mean, I had already been labeled as "Weird," but Damn, even I have my Standards. Although, I wasn't talking loud. I sincerely hated that I couldn't bring myself to help that Cockroach. ;) Really.

Now, this story has a point. I was scared of Cockroaches at Age 12, but not so Scared that I couldn't stand within 2 feet of them without freaking. Now, I can't even really think about them without Squirming or Whatnot. I dunno, it's weird. I would think that I'd fear them less after learning more about them, not the Opposite. Maybe it was that episode of Corwin's Quest where Jeff Corwin lost his hold on that Giant Cockroach and it was moving all around his body all Cartoonish like...

EDIT: You know, it's probably 'cause they move Super Fast. I noticed that I'm not really scared of slow moving Bugs...I think I just had an Epiphany or Somethin'...I'm just Too Damn Good.:naughty:

I wouldn't say I have a phobia of bugs but when I see an insect I instinctively cringe away, like four feet away. :P Except for one time when I was taking down a tent it was as hot as hell and I was realy annoyed because a bee was in it. So I figured 'I'm taking it down and you can find your own way out'
I reached in to undo the partition thing (there were partition things in the tent) and the bugger stung me http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o173/KatayokunoTenshi_01/Emoticon/Emoticon%20by%20Reichu/Anger%20and%20Frustration/fistshake.gif. First time I'd ever been stung was six months ago... probably because of my uber cringe.

I am not scared of the little brown ones but those huge wood roaches with the big feelers make me squirm. They always seem to be milling over in their little buggy brain some way to fly at your face, I really hate the fact that they turn their heads to look at you. It is freaking creepy.

I've been stung numerous times, by bees and wasps. Not cool, but I suppose they could say the same about me trying to catch them by their wings or gazing at their hidden nest, as a kid.:P

The roaches with exoskeletons that look really hard are the ones that I try to avoid touching, mainly because the barbs on the legs look as though they could pierce your skin and lodge a buttload of bacteria onto you. That's only if you pick them up though. Also, if someone kills those cockroaches, they innards are white, which clashes with their dark exterior, and makes me think of chocolate with creamy insides.:| Yum, huh?^_^

ZOMG its aweful reading through this. everytime somone described a spider i cringed. i imagine on breaking out of its cage with its evil magic spider powers then dashing at me at light speed with its unneccessary amount of legs and jumping onto my arm and when i try to knock it off it runs circles up my arm and onto my back to do god knows what like bit me or lay its filthy eggs in my throught.
they say you swallow at least 6 bugs in your lifetime while sleeping ~_~;
and it doesnt help that georgia is home to two deadly spiders black widow and brown something another. and those brown ones always find it convinient to make camp at my door so i can walk into it while its dark in the morning and freak out~

god im feel like theres one here right as i type this.

Wow. You guys must really be afraid of spiders. I stayed away from spiders for a time and developed a mild cautionary fear of them, but after putting that aside, I was able to pick them up again, pet them, etc. They're nice, just make sure you're thinking happy thoughts.^_^

my biggest fear, is not not getting laid is not wheather i'm gona have a family in the futer, it's not if i'm going to be the biggest pervert in the world. my biggest fear is not getting a job good enough to suport myself when my parents are gone. My friend, lives out on his own in an apartment where people think he's a pedofile. I don't want to live like that i what to live in a nice neighborhood with no trouble... the only thing that i can't see happening is the job, becuase i'm an addicted to things that will never get me into one of those jobs, i've had a goal planned when i graduated, i wanted to be a comic writer, but every single day i'm thinking how the hell am i ever going to be published when i can't even draw a female character the right way no matter how long i've been practising. and everything i i see from college, all the lessons i've been takeing the ones that don't have anything to do with drawing catch my interest becuase they explain the world to me, all thoughs history classes all those english classes, thinking about that Anthropology class i took a year ago they mention two types of familys, one was an indenpendent society in wich each member of the family learns to take care of them selves and they could care less about the other guy in the family. and then there is the dependent family, where everything one person does the whole family pitches in and helps them. this is an asian society in Japan and China and those countries on the other side of the world. and i'm always thinking which family do i fall under, I know I'm not asian, but i can't seem to get along by myself.

It's not a diagnosed phobia, but I'm always afraid of being alone. I feel as though someone is there, even though I try to convince myslef there isn't. I hear sounds, and things liek Americas Most Wanted make me lose sleep because it enhances the fears.

Maybe I'm a scytzo (major sp).

i am scared of not being alone, but more like staying alone.

i am also scared of pretty much anything smaller than a cat that is within 2 meters of me and that can move faster than me, especially if it can fly.

I'm scared of mice and rats. The weirdest thing about that though is I enjoy taking the train (where I occasionally see rats/mice) as opposed to the bus. I hate the bus. F*** the bus. F***in' piece of s***. Anyway, more on the rat/mouse thing. I can't even see them in pictures or on television, as I get this sort of sick feeling or a chill down my spine.

Someone who lives in New York and is scared of rats and mice...

I assume you're scared of Gerbils, Shrews, etc. as well?

They're also known as pillbugs and sowbugs... I think there's another common name that they're known by, but I don't recall at the moment.

While I remember... I also really dislike phones. I think I'm the only person I know who doesn't have a mobile. If I have to phone someone I don't know... I just panic! It's terrible! Simple, ordinary things like... setting up internet banking... need me to make a phonecall, and I just can't do it...

...this thread is full of so much phobia, but a lot of ordinary fear too. Looks like the ordinary fear is the long-lasting stuff.. perhaps I should count myself lucky with having strange phobias...

Not as bad as the woman who was afraid of tin foil.

Someone in my school when I was in like grade 5 was scared of the ceiling, so she had to walk around with a large visor around her head. It was weird. She quit after I left the school, though. xD

2^Vertigo? :P
This thread reminds me of Maury's Pickle Girl. :|

On a side note, I forgot to mention I have almost the exact same thing, but with nails. I hate seeing nails being messed with in just about any way, excluding cutting them (with clippers, I've seen some weird people who've done it with knives and scissors) and stuff.
