I know, there have been a lot of news stories posted the past couple of days, but I couldn't resist adding this one.

http://www.cbc.ca/consumer/comm-oddities/2007/01/financial_ruin_sends_knitting.html

Seems that an order of nuns is running away from the repo man. Why? might you ask. Well it seems that these were enterprising nuns who started up a knitting business... with industrial machinery. And of course, to know what the hot new fashion trends are in woolen wear, they had to make trips to fashion shows in European capitals.

So now they're hiding away in a monastery, claiming sanctuary, 600 000 euros in debt.

Well as long as it has nothing to do with sex for once :)

Geez, usually it has to do with them going all crazy and killing people. Sex? you wish.

Although The Penguin has a bad influence on those Nuns. They need a better role model.

The greek orthodox church will probably attempt to pay off some of the debt.

That's ridiculous, the Church is so rich.

It is but it isn't. Besides I gather they are Greek Orthodox (I made this statement since "the Church" usually refers to Roman Catholic) not as rich I think.

No, it's an autocephalous rite I think. That's why the synod is investigating, their funds aren't as large as you think because they are independent, as in not under the eastern authority. They should still be able to cover the cost but, does that mean they should bail out their nuns immediately...

The sisterhood isn't independent... but it's not entirely dependent. Each nun has their own duty, if they fail ... sucks to be them.
