I definitely enjoy cooking homemade. It's way better than buying fast food and blindly spending my money needlessly. I consider myself a pretty good cook. I always like to follow intructions just as a recipe says so it will come out as perfect as it can. :teehee:

I'm an out of the box chef. I've never made anything creative before, but I'm good with making anything by the instructions. About the most complicated things I make are Bacon Cheesebugers. My favorite food is a monterey jack bacon cheeseburger with crisp bacon.

Have you ever tried Pizza, without anything else on it? Just Pizza and Cheese? My super-dish I make is Pizza & Cheese with Egg mixed into the batter. It's really good. A little garlic and off you go.

I didn't put chocolate syrup on it, it was left out earlier that morning. I used a George Foreman grill to cook the steak and added light seasoning. A1 sucks now, Siracha ftw.

I'm an out of the box chef.

I suppose I could be considered an "out of the box" chef. I don't make my spaghetti or alfredo sauce from scratch, for example; it comes from a jar mostly, but adding vegetables and appropriate seasonings and spices gives it a unique, homemade flavor.

I always like to follow intructions just as a recipe says so it will come out as perfect as it can.

For me, it depends on what I'm making. If I am making something for the first time I'll follow recipes pretty carefully; if I am trying a new rub or something on the meat portion of a meal, I'll look at what ingredients I have and compare it to the list, adding and subtracting things I either like or don't like. Things that I've been making for a long time require no recipes. In short, I like to experiment.

Man, this thread is making me hungry. Time to make some lunch, I suppose.

I've always made Grilled Cheese really well, but other than that I can't cook for my life.

Grilled cheese is an easy start; that was part of what I made for lunch. Unless you're one of those freaks that puts sugar on it.

It's weird like that; my parents used to have me cook on the weekends for them if I was home (in exchange for not doing other house chores), and I just enjoyed it. When I first arrived at college, I was amazed at the amount of people my age - both male and female - who couldn't cook. Out of my group of friends, I am about one of three who enjoys cooking and can do it. A neighbor friend of mine can cook really well but I don't think she enjoys it as a hobby, per se. Other than that, most of the others have very limited kitchen ability.

I suggest learning, especially if you're going to be out on your own for college. Even if it is for the sheer fact of saving money and survival, it's a skill most people now a days just don't have.

I just made some curry for dinner this evening... dictated by the ingredients in my fridge and the contents of the cupboard, it was a case of... caramelising some chopped onions in a pan, adding diced carrot, diced potato, sliced green beans, leave it to simmer for a while, add a jar of rogan josh sauce, simmer some more. Heat up some naan bread *sprinkle spinkle water*, and eaten with some bits of pre-cooked chicken that were also there in the fridge.

Tastes good. Made-up out of random stuff no-one else tries. Looks weird.

Ah, yeah, that's how my cooking works. Random stuff & sauce = meal. The only limitations I ever put on curry are; no meat in the sauce! It soaks up the flavour too much. All the people I've known whose families come from Southern India told me that they never put meat in curries, so I guess that must be right...

um... ta-da! -_-;

(and the leftovers go in the fridge and I live on them for the next few days... overnight curry is nice...)

Well Buh! I am black. For example, I make killer fried chicken. But we can have open flame type stuff or woks in our dorms. Thus, no chicken can be made here.

But I have my George Foreman, so I'm fine. I can grill on that.

Well, if you want a light dinner, get whatever kind of steaks you have. If it's beef, then

heat up some oil in a pan. (not a ton, just enough to cover the bottom.

When it gets hot, put a tablespoon of butter in the oil. Also, season the oil. (Put salt, pepper, garlic powder, whatever you like.)

Take steak, properly thawed, and put it in skillet. Then, fry until liking. (I dont know how you like your steak, but make sure to keep an even time for both sides, so it cooks all the way through.)

Simple, but tastes awesome.

When done, enjoy, unless you want sides, mainly, vegetables. You like Veges?

One fried steak.....cheese...sausages...tomato...s alad...bread....morcela, make sure its made with blood to make it tasty...an fried egg if you want to put on top...
For the sauce....you have to use beer and some tomatto sause and something hot, peppers. You can put around also some fried potatoes...but!! the important thing of the plate is the fact of the sause, to feel in your mouth like acid..cause of the beer...the only comparison I can say is of vomit..IN A GOOD WAY..it has to have that type of acidity to make it feel good.

Of course I like veggies. what do you suggest. @Defiled One: I've had that before when I was in Spain, what is it called?

VidelCoolGirl
January 27th, 2007, 01:11 PM
Well, I like a mix of veggies when I eat, so I usually go for a mix of broccoli, califlower, and corn. (You can get seperate, or they also sell mixes like that in stores. I'm sure its called "Normandy Mix" or something with Normandy in it.)

When you cook it, try to steam it instead of boiling. All the tasty nutrients stay in it! And in the water that steams it, put all kinds of stuff. I put butter, spices, ect.

When its done, you don't need to season the veggies all that much. (Unless you feel like you have to. I usually don't.) That way, you have a handy dandy steak, and some vegetables to boot.

I would say rice, but for a quick dinner, steak and veggies are probably better.

Actually, I also like putting extra things to a dish if possible. It might end up making it better than what a recipe calls for. I cook just about every day of the week and I love experimenting. My meals mainly consist of fried vegetables, tofu, rice and the occasional side dish of fish cooked in a thin veil of oil. Sometimes I'll cook whatever is in the fridge or take a random recipe and make it.

Being a vegetarian, I cannot help but shudder every time I see meat other than fish. I must also be among the 1% of our population who actually dislikes bacon. I also dislike fat, so I rarely melt cheese and take half the amount of butter that a recipe demands.

So yeah, in general I like cooking, but will avoid the dishes like the plague.

I absolutely LOVE to cook! But I rarely follow recipes, because they are very confining--and I like the freedom of cooking by taste. Seasonings are a blessing in disguise—so I stay away from salt usually. Sure, it might taste good...but using salt alone to enhance a dish's flavor is not the way to go. There are TONS of better choices out there which bring out flavor without adding a ton of salt. Spices are the key.

I make really good homemade pizza--with dough and sauce that I make myself. Sure, it takes a few hours to prepare everything (so I make it only on occasion when I have the time), but it tastes DELICIOUS. Fresh vegetables, grated mozzarella cheese (from a nice block ^_^), olives, the works. Very good! We even have a pizza stone just for this reason.

I also make a MEAN manicotti that is always finished off the first day. I don't put spinach in mine, since no one else besides me eats spinach in my house, but it still comes out wonderfully. I usually make my own sauce for this dish too, but when pressed for time just use the pre-made crap (but dress it up a bit to my liking). Still tastes good, but not *as* good. God bless Ricotta.

^_^ I wish I had a man to cook for! Oh, you just know he'd be fat and happy...haha.

I can't cook sweets and indian cuisine to save my life. I'm too scared to attempt Japanese and Chinese.
I excel in all types of Italian and chicken dishes. I warn people though, my Lasagne recipe is not for people with small stomachs and high cholesterol rates.

I prefer eating to cooking slightly, but you can't eat well if you don't cook well, so it balances itself out.

And I hate Jamie Oliver. All the dishes I have attempted to make by him end up in the bin, and the ingrediants list is ALWAYS out of my budget. The last (and final) dish I made from his recipe book cost me £10 ($20).

Making your own food is great,
problem lies in that you can't appropriate proper ingredients unless you're wealthy. I'm talking here of organic products, you can't even buy full-cream milk anymore where I am

When I was in school we were never taught about how the human body actually works, especially digestion and how our body uses what we eat to build itself, let alone anyone mentioning how these biological processes effect the more subtle bodies.

It's more difficult than it should be to buy decent tobacco, too, the types that haven't been sprayed with poisons that cause various cancers.

You would've thought fundamental things like food and water would be managed properly by now, especially considering how much pain medc's put poorer people through, but once again those that know the least about what they are actually doing are put in charge. I'm not sure if they are put into those positions by certain groups or they are just mind controlled to be that way. Edit: Or that things have gotten so bad that these topics aren't seen to be true, or there is some fundamental problem with how they are perceiving reality (most businessmen seem to have emotional illnesses, too). Which is a depressing thought to entertain.

It's more difficult than it should be to buy decent tobacco, too, the types that haven't been sprayed with poisons that cause various cancers.

As opposed to just smoking tobacco without insecticides, which causes cancer all by itself anyway.

So, I made manicotti tonight! It was GOOOOOD, had to chime in over here because of the delicious goodness. I don't make mine with spinach because no one else in my family believes in vegetables. But it was damn, damn good. Actually, I think it tastes better without the spinach now. Mmmm....

I like to cook, only when it come to the part of using the ladle and the pan/wok. I hate preparing the stuff. Cutting vegetables, onions and garlic is fine, but cleaning the meat sucks. Worst still is fish. And what I hate most is washing up.
