View Full Version : How Extensive is 4Kids' Involvement in the TMNT Movie?

Also, by that, I mean outside of making money from the toys.

The movie is moddled after the new 4kids cartoon, which I approve.

Other than that I don't know. 4kids doesn't actually own the franchise. Mirange Studios does. 4kids is only the producer of the television series, IIRC.

They are also the show's distributor and licensor. Ergo, they make money from related products in question, even though Mirage Studios does own the franchise. This is why they were able to change the show the way they did to it's "fast forward" incarnation which has nothing to do with the comics.

I would say more, but I don't want to be yelled at again...

The "Fast Forward" decision wasn't 4kids. (It was the toy licensor. I forgot who it is.)

I guess we have to wait a little more to more information on this.

If you are referring to Playmates, then that would be only partially correct. I understand Surge Licensing was TMNT's licensing agent for the original 1987 series, however, not only is 4Kids the licensing agent now, they are also the producers of the current TV series. In both cases Playmates is the toy distributor. I imagine Playmates sees some money rom the toys, but 4Kids is the one making the most money off of it.

TV Producer, TV Distributor, AND licensing agent; this "triple threat" (unfortunately) gives them the right to change the show in any way they want, and there is extremely little that Eastman and Laird, Mirage, or Playmates can do about it (unless I'm missing something here; it was Mirage's decision to sell the license to 4Kids). Therefore, it is logical to assume that the "Fast Forward" incarnation of the show was 4Kids' idea as well as their decision. It is also logical to assume that for these reasons among others, 4Kids (to whatever extent) are involved with the upcoming film in question, therefore it is also logical to assume that they are getting money not just from tie-in products, but also from box office receipts as well.

(makes split fingered "V" sign) Live long and prosper.

(Is that alright, will that work for you?)

The movie is still looking good. And it's under Warner Bros. distribution. I doubt they'd let 4Kids try to pull some crap like Fast Forward with this movie. And I don't even think 4Kids has any involvment whatsoever with this movie. Outside of the voice actors, everything else is being done by another studio. Time to look it up real quick.

They need to make a boxset for the FOX version already. It was, what, 3 seasons long until Fast Forward came about? It was true to the comic book a lot more than the original. The original was just campy fun.

Same difference...

I was planning to wait until the movie comes out, then judge it on its own merits. I know, I must be some sort of lunatic to live out on the edge like that, but it's the only way I can truly feel alive.

Word. Although, the trailer did hype me up enough already for to see it. Tama on the other hand, is pretty touched up there in the noggin when it comes to life's most simple things.

I guess you never heard this earlier, but it's considered rude to refer to somebody in the first person, especially for the purpose of criticising other people's opinions just because they don't match your own.

Anyway, I was never criticising the film itself (especially since it obviously hasn't come out yet), I'm just asking how extensive 4Kids' involvement was, as well as giving my reason why I think they are making the most money from it. I have never mentioned the movie's plot or anything. This was all I was talking about, nothing else.

Believe me, this is the most I can do w/o sounding like a rant, which would lead to being yelled at/mocked. I really wish I could do better, but this is the best I can give you. I'm sorry if it isn't good enough. :( The best thing we can do now is agree about disagreeing, and just move on. I want to, really, but "will you let me"?, is the question.

Oh, and another thing. I really don't appreciate your sarcasm, Desslock. If you want to disagree with me about this, fine, but don't treat me like I'm lower than you. I don't appreciate people who have this "holier than thou" attitude. Do you want me to continue, or can we just agree about disagreeing like I said?

It's also a literary technique I like to use. OH NOES!!! I SPOKE BEHIND TAMAS BACK!!!! WHAT ARE I TO DO!?!?!?!?!

BTW, I've heard of it, but do I care for it? No. Messageboard. Welcome to it.

And I think you shouldn't be concerning yourself with who get's whatever cut from the profits. I mean, it's pointless debate really. I definitely know Warner Bros. will get a huge cut.

See, you were doing fine until you went and edited your post and added this. And as a matter of fact, do continue. Hell, I'll take the first shot:

You're so far beneath us, you couldn't kiss our a$$es with a trampoline.

I'm only concerned about whether or not 4Kids is getting any money from this film, because as I'm sure you know, they are a company I do not wish to support; I'm not even going to give them a penny. I imagine you don't support them either, right? Also, we both know why, right?

As for the second part of your post, I can't tell whether or not you're being sarcastic. So...are you? In any event, if I misinterpreted anybody, I ask you, how was I supposed to interpret you? I posted as such because that what your posts sounded like...to me. Again, I truly apologize if my posts aren't good enough for you. I try to be calm and collected, and this is the thanks I get, but enough about that.

Look, the point is, one way or the other, I don't want 4Kids to get any of my hard earned money from this film in any way. Warner Bros., you say? Well, I'm sure whoever it is will get the most money from it since they're the ones actually releasing the film. It's not that I don't want to watch the new TMNT film; I do, but I'm just not sure whether or not buying a ticket for this film would mean supporting 4Kids as well, which I don't want to do, and so I decided to ask how extensive their involvment was (I'm sure as heck not going to get the toys or other tie-in products). Is it really considered paranoid to make every effort possible to prevent a company you don't approve of from getting your money?

Well, they got the cartoon right on Fox before Fast Forward happened. So, they deserve my money. But, in all reality, they're not in charge of the movie production. AT ALL. They're only lending the voice actors as far as I know. The project is not in their hands. They do not GET any HUGE amounts of money from that. It is not their forte. Neither are the toys.

I'll be getting the action figures. They look nice. And as a matter of fact, that gives me something to buy this week.

4Kids will not be involved at such a high-level. It is not their movie. If it was, it'd be straight to DVD and 2D animated. I really don't think they'll be getting a cut. 4Kids only has the TV show.

And even if they're the licensor for the show, go see it. Fuk it if it's 4Kids. Relive whatever little childhood we have left. Although, avoid the Transformers movie at all costs. Don't relive that. Go buy the TF Movie(the animated one) on DVD and support that.

Sooo.... don't see it? That seems to be the most sensible solution to me, but again, my view might be somewhat skewed from living on the edge, as I do.

Few people in its sights do.

All I said was that I wasn't going to worry about the film until it came out. That's all.

I swear, Tama, you're like a water balloon full of tears walking around in a forest full of brambles, cacti and porcupines. There's just no way to keep from popping you, some days.
