Im not sure if there is such a program but I just want to have a program on my computer that can enhance the sounds on my computer. I want to listen to my music better and also have control over bass, surround, etc.

It sounds like you need a better media player. What one are you using right now? Of the one's I've had experience with, I would Media Player Classic has a lot of nice settings. You can mess with channel mapping(imitating surround sound), as well equalizer settings. I don't think I've seen anything about Bass, but I haven't really looked for it either.

Aside from messing around with the equalizer in your music program, I'd suggest

1) better speakers
2) better soundcard
3) quality if the sound file you're playing

If you're using WinAmp (which you should be), download the "iZotope Ozone Free" extension. It's precisely what you're looking for.

Buy a better soundcard.

That should solve the problem.

Yeah, upgraded speakers and soundcard would work.

Most media players have equalizers. I know iTunes has a really sweet one.

Otherwise, I'm sure there is an equalizer program you can download.

Why would a better soundcard make any difference? Unless you're gaming, it's a complete myth that better soundcards make things sound better. The built-in sound chip on most modern motherboards is quite enough for music and video. On the other hand, I fully agree that better speakers will make huge difference to the perceived audio quality.

AC97 is complete garbage if you plan to do any serious work or enjoyment of music. Onboard sound transmits machine noise through the signal path, which lowers signal to noise levels and screws up recordings. Better speakers don't help because they will amplify machine noise to somewhat noticeable levels. Your output is only as clean and loud as your input.

If you want better sound, chip in a little for better speakers along with a good sub. Here's a tip, if your sub can't put out a candle 20 feet away, keep looking!
