Part A: Short Story (10 Marks)

- Questions on plot, climax, characteristics, etc.

Part B: Essay (30 Marks)

- 5 People you meet in Heaven (book we read this term)/Short Story with Romeo and Juliet (have no idea what the short story part means)

Part C: Correctable Passage (20 marks)

For the reading part, read the questions before you read the short passage.

The plot usually consists of the setting and characters. Climax is after the rising action and before the falling action. In terms of Romeo and Juliet, the Climax should be in like act III.

Correct the passage means you will be given options to make each paraghraph better. You will Probably correct puncuation and re-organize it.

From what I can gather, for the essay you will probably be given a short section from Romeo and Juliet; you will then have to analyze that specific passage for its relevance to the larger story. For example, if the passage were of the death scene, you would have to describe how it is the climax and how the action of the play, the plot, has worked to that specific moment.

The "short story" is probably short answer. One or two sentences describing a specific point, a view of a character, etc.

2. Pay attention in class.

3. ???

4. PROFIT!!

Your kidding right? You can't really need help identifying a plot can you?

Hmmm this might aid you in getting into the literature I suppose. Relate it to what you feel comfortable with, in your head, turn the written material into an anime. SEE all the people as drawn as anime. Make it seem more familiar to you. This should at least make you feel better. Then prepare to nitpick this "anime" as if it was something you watched and want to post about on here.

Heck we sure pick apart animes as if we knew everything about them :)

Apparently, some people have a hard time identifying whether or not there is a plot in certain anime/manga/movies/stories.

Anyway as to your first question. Climax. When a girl is abo...oh wait, that one. Got it.

The climax is usally really easy to spot. If an anime has a gimmick that keeps getting shoved to the side, then when it finally happens, that is the climax. Like a big secret, or maybe a plan, or two characters who you can recognize as the highest echelon of opposing groups meeting each other. Look out for some kind of theme that is present for most of the story, and that will obviously have a tremendous impact. Deaths of the main(can you really say main here or is there just one?) Protagonist or the main Antagonist are also a good place to look. Those are a few that I can think of right now.

"Love Kills"

Simple, elegant, and you'll probably be the only smartass...er.....unique individual in the class who comes at Romeo and Juliet from this angle.

I wouldn't worry too much. If you can understand the plot of anime by reading the descriptions in ANN or of movies on IMDB, you won't have problems in the exam. In my experience with mexican classmates in HS that didn these kinds of exams; even the ones that speak english poorly pass these exams, usually with grades over 7. I rarely saw people getting 6's in these exams.

Just read the answers, read the text (if it's Romeo & Juliet, we all know what happens in the end so you can already prepare your little 3 sentences about how they all die beforehand), answer.

Now, if this exam were the Firth Certificate of the english language, then I'd be shaking in my boots. Course I can't say for myself how hard that exam is because I've never taken it. I've only done the TOEFL and got over 600 without effort.
