~Story~
There is a war going on between the Elements Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, and Darkness there are some in the war, some trying to stop the war,and some trying to avoid the war, which one of these are you? Romance between the Elements are forbidden but the young lovers try. If you are 13 or older and know how to control your elemental powers you will be drafted into the war weather you are against it or not.

Her mother was stabbed but with what life she had left she killed her father as well. What are you doing?: In the war, but looking for an honorable way out.
Bio: A strange indivdual, Jason came into his powers at a very early age. Starting with helping to light th fire on a cold winter's night, he has since grown into his abilities and is now an officer in excellent standing in the armies of the Fire Village.
He earned his name when his power matured to the point where his flames could evaporate all but the most powerful of water magics, if deployed as a shield. A one-on-one focused contest of power is frequently decided in his favor.
Despite his good standing with his commanding officers, Jason is growing weary of all the fighting. It has grown pointless, yet he will not disobey his orders.
Personality: Normally quiet and attentive around superiors, firm yet kind to those under his command. He has an extremely violent temper on the rare occaisions when he allows it free rein, but he usually keeps a tight grip on it.

Bio:Born into nobility his widowed farther had high hopes for him but upon his discharge has cut him off as his heir, he also had a lover whom he fought over with his rival but since his discharge he has lost all hope of wooing her.
Personality:A lovable rougue with an eye for cash and a stomach for booze, he still retains a sense of principal but tends to look out for number one and can retain a cold demeaner (despite his well kept secret that he still has his child hood teddy by the name of sooty)

Personality: she is mischievous, loves seeing others in pain, always getting in trouble for something, she mostly just cares about herself. She also has a really bad temper, and an anger problem. She also believes in revenge.
Appearance: Tall, really skinny, knee length black hair, has a couple tattoos on her leg. Has lots of jewellery, and is really pretty. She looks like she is only 20-23...

Kami lye on the floor as she stared at the wall, she'd just over heard some villagers talk about the war and she was very unhappy about it. Why couldn't they all live in peace? she thought.

Jason watched over the clean-up of the recent Fire/Earth battle. His superiors had said to clear the debris away. Jason followed these orders, but to his troops he added that any survivors, friend or foe, were to be given immediate medical assistance.

When will these pointless battles end? When everyone in every village is dead?

Panicked shouts shook him from his thoughts. "What's happening?"

A soldier rushed up. "Sir! We've found an Earth warrior who still wants to fight. We can't make him understand we only want to help.

"Alright, I'll deal with it. Take me to him."

Readying his staff, Jason followed his man to the scene, where the aforementioned Earth warrior stood. A large man, with bulging musculature, the effect was reduced slightly by the blood pouring forth from his wounds.

"Come on, you flaming turds! I'll take you all on, I'll take you all down, and I'll take you all back with me as slaves!"

"I think not, sir."

"Who the hell are you?!"

"I am I am Jason Markham, a captain of the Third Flame Army. I am in charge of this clean-up operation, and I ask that you not make too much fuss. My superiors do not look kindly upon aiding the enemy, and giving the enemy medical attention fits that catagory."

"Do you expect me to believe that you want to help me? Hah! Pull the other one, it's got big frickin' bells on it."

"I assure you, sir, that this is indeed my intention. Several of your comrades are on their way to our medical tent, if they are not there already."

"Shut up! Just shut up!" The Earth warrior held out a hand, in which he held a pile of dirt. Using his power, he condensed and transformed the dirt into a super-dense stone, which he then hurled at Jason. It would have shattered his skull with ease, had the stone's path not been interupted by the interposition of Jason's staff.

Jason lowered his staff again. "Please refrain from doing that again. Right now every fiber in my body is screaming for your blood, however I am resisting the urge to butcher you like a pig." His voice took a sharp edge "Now cease this madness and let us attend to your wounds!"

The Earth warrior deflated, his will to fight lost. This man was strange beyond everything he ever could have imagined. He could feel the pent-up bloodlust leaking off the Flame captain's body, and he had no wish to test the limits of this man's self control. He submitted himself to the Flame soldiers, who lead him quickly to the medical tent.

Jason quivered with his supressed anger, finally spinning and vaporizing a nearby tree to release the rage. "Damn it! When will it all end?!"

Kami sighed as she got up and opened the dirty shutters to her broken down home, the house was sort of built to resemble a tower and had only one room but it was upstairs and out the widow you overlooked the entire village. Kami watched the people int he village some hoping for letters from their loved ones in the war others rushing to the medial building because they found out their loved one was there. She hated to go outside when everyone was like this, especially the jealous people who if they found out Kami was a young strong girl over the age of 13 who knew how to control her element wasn't fighting made them angry and would do anything to get her drafted. Kami shook her head at the thought, what is the world coming to these days... she sighed.

((I'll take it that I can start now so here goes))

Raziel crouched in a tree and watched, a small caravan shipping taxes to the the capital of the wind nation passed below him. From the bushes and tree's four Brigands charged out to attack the caravan.
Raziel leapt out of the tree onto the top of the carriage, the guard who sat next to the driver swept his sword at Raziels legs but missed as he leapt into the air and brought his foot down on the mans head, the guard collapsed, in the same movement Raziel kicked the driver in the face sending him flying.
The other bandits easily subdued the remaining guard with there maces and staffs, "Pffft putting a light guard to trick us into ignoring it as small pickings" one bandit anounced. "Lets just get this stuff shifted I want paid". Raziel said hotly "Yeah yeah merc you'll get your cut". The bandit yawned.
They drove the hijacked wagon full of gold to there hide out, unkown to them Raziel was dropping small glass stones at regular intervals, leaving a trail a trail that was being followed.

Kami needing her food for the week left her old building, she wore a cloche hiding her face to make her look like a poor weak girl who couldn't fight. A few of the villagers knew better but were to distracted by the war. When she got to the restaurant and store called Hiroshima's R and S. With Mrs. Hiroshima had been giveing Kami free food although she protests the old lady insists. Coming in the door eveyrone looked her way as a small bell rang when teh door opened, after seeing the cloche covered girl they turned their attention back to their food.

"Well hi there dear it's int he back..." she whispered.

Kami nodded when people asked why she would come and go to the back leaving with food the old lady would tell them that Kami was delivering. Once she came back out with the bag Mrs.Hiroshima waved her over.

"Why don't you have some tea dear?"

Kami nodded, "yes thank you Mrs. Hiroshi...." that was the old women's name for short.

They eventually reached the camp it mainly consisted of some old tents and a shabby looking store house. Raziel hopped off the carrige as a short man bearing a broadsword walsed up to him. "Ah good work mercenary I knew I was wise to hire you, those idiots." He nodded to the bandits unloading the gold "Would have gotten lost and asked the guards for directions I belive I owe you three percent." Raziel shook his head "Five percent don't even try to screw me out".
The short man shrugged and whistled, a brutish thug holding a small bag stomped up to him and handed it to him. Raziel inspected it the contents it was fifty gold coins.

In the Water village, Rayne sat at home and stared out her window. Moments later she heard a clatter behind her...it was just her mother with some food from the market. She set them down on the table and said, "Ray, I know you're mainly used for guard duty these days, but you can go out and have a life when you aren't on duty, you know."
Rayne sighed and looked back out the window before replying, "Yeah...I know. But I figure if I stay here and unnoticed, the army won't be able to drag me off to yet another tragic battle against the other Elements."
Her mother placed her hands on her hips and shook her head. Moments later she practically kicked her daughter outside.
"If you are going to sulk, don't do it in my house. Why not go to that little river you like so much?"
Rayne just nodded and headed out for it.

Captain Jason Markham checked in on the wounded, both Fire and Earth. The debris had been cleared away, but no more survivors had been found. The fallen Fire troops had been seperated from the Earth troops. The reason had been that Jason knew the postmortem practices in the Earth village were different from those of the Fire village. He respected the wishes of the Earths, who wished to bury their dead, to return them to the soil from whence they came. The Fires had been cremated by a single blast of hellfire from Jason's hands. "Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust. So do our spirits escape the confines of our dead flesh." He bowed to the scattered ash blowing in the wind. "Speed on your way, and bear no ill will to the living."

He had overseen the loading of the Earth dead onto carts. Now he was going among the wounded, finding who was ready to walk and who would need to ride with their deceased comrades. "Enlisted men only. Officers must remain here in Fire village. Worry not, you shall be cared for."

"And what makes you think we'll stick around? Eh?!

Jason's hand flicked out, and a fly less than six inches from the Earth officer's head exploded. "The fact that that could easily have been your head. Do not piss me off again, Earth man. You're on two strikes now, and you don't want a third." With that he turned and helped the nearest invalid onto the cart. "If you truly care for your men, as a good officer should, help get them home. Many of them have families, many of them were taken against their will just because they had the Power."

Once everyone who was going was loaded, he climbed up in the driver's seat. "I will personally take these people to the border, where they will do the rest. No one will come with me, is that understood?"

B-but sir!

"No buts. This is an order. Yah!" He snapped the reins and the horses started forward.

"Who the hell does he think he is?!"

The Fire soldier spun and hit the Eart officer across the jaw, hard enough to knock him down. "I'll not hear you speak ill of my captain, dog! Keep your yapping to yourself!"

"I don't suppose I could interest you in another job, a BIG one". The short man offered Raziel, "If it's as BIG you say it is you won't be able to hire me." Raziel replied simply, "I wouldn't worry i always have plenty of money" the short man answered. Raziel sneered under his mask, "No what I mean is you can't hire me...If your DEAD!" at that moment arrows flew out from the canopy striking down the bandits and a shot struck the short man inbetween the eyes.
Soildiers bearing the wind emblem charged out from the undergrowth and hacked down the survivors leaving Raziel standing there minding his own business.

Rayne reached the river shortly. It was a wide, calm river that she had discovered when she was little. She always came here when she wanted to be alone.
Rayne then made for her favorite spot, a large willow tree on the edge. It was beautiful. She kicked off her ankle-high boots and sat down on a large root. She dipped her feet into the water and watched the ripples.
Water could always calm her spirit. But lately, it was the cause of unrest.
"This war is stupid," she said as she kicked the water.

Once the carnage had ceased a female officer accompanied by her bodyguard aproached Raziel, "As promised Mr.Sanguine one hundred gold"she said, the body guard grudgingly gave him a puch full of money.
"Without your help we would never have found the shipment, it can now continue to pay for the war effort" she continued, her blonde hair poke'd out of the back of her plat helm. "Yeah yeah if I knew it was for the war I wouldn't have tacken the damn job". Raziel muttered biterly "Oh and I do believe we need your cut of the taxes back.
A smile played on Raziels lips under his mask, "Oh I don't think so"

Midna sat in the Palace of Twilight,looking at her Fused Shadows in delight.
"With these,no one can even try to take over the Twilight Realm.I'm it's ruler,it's princess,it's decider.I've been princess of the Twili for a while,and no one should dare try to stop me.Zant was so foolish,thinking he could over power me."
She turned around,looking at the reciever of her spoken words,Mioru,a palace guard.
"Mioru,look after these for a while.I just want one peek at what is going on in Hyrule."
"Yes,your majesty."
"How many times do i have to tell you?Just call me Midna.Your my room guard,i can't be called "your majesty"by someone i see evry day and is with me a lot."
"Yes,your m-Midna."
"Good,now,stay here."
Midna wandered out in the the balcony,where there was another door,but it was covered in shadow.With one point of her finger,Midna opened the door and walked inside.
Inside on the walls were markings of a wolf,with a young girl riding on the back of it.Up above the wolf and girl where three large drawings, of what looked like animals,that were watching over the wolf and girl.
Midna walked over to an alter that held a book.It was covered in dark symbols and looked as if evil was locked away by some strong force.
She opened the book at the contents page and flicked to a page that had Hyrule in map form in it.Midna took her time,looking at Hyrule and thinking of what might be wrong.

Moiru noticed something;the Fused Shadows were gone.
Midna looked closely at the map of Hyrule.
"Hmm,the conditions aren't normal.Perhaps i should-"
A dark hand reached out and grabbed her,taking her into Hyrule and reducing her to an imp.(Not wimp)
When Midna awoke,she could hear noises from behind her.Midna got up and wandered around the corner,trying not to get seen and noticed a medium sized wolf get dragged away by monsters.
She thought about it for a moment,then remembered what had happened.
"That dark hand,could that be Zant?Where did he get his power?And that wolf,maybe he is the destined one.It says so on the wall in the secret chamber."
An evil grin spread across her face.She put a strange helmet on.
"It would be so degrading if anyone from my tribe saw me like this.A pathetic little imp.I'll need to keep hidden."
She followed the monsters to a jail cell,and then waited for them to leave.
"So i see Hyrule has been covered in Twilight.I knew it.With a pathetic princess like that and guards made out of nothingness.I could see it coming."
The young wolf growled and started to naw at his chains.
"I see you're just as pathetic too.Stupid....doggie,he he."
She summoned a dark ball and threw it at the chains,breaking the wolf free from the chains.
"I'm guessing you can get out of there,right?I'm not helping you anymore for now.I've done my part.Now,you do something."

"What do you mean water rat!" the bodyguard yelled out angrily, sevearal soildiers surrounded Raziel his black scarf fluttered in the breeze.
"You can have the cash...If you can catch me" Raziel smirked as he backflipped over a soldier and disapeared in a puff of water vapour, "Search the area" the body guard barked. "Don't bother Varda it's small change, besides he doesent even know where the gold was from". The officer smirked

Rayne hadn't been sitting by the river very long before she became bored with it. She stood up and began to practice/play with her water power. She lightly stepped on top of the water and froze where she stepped.
The ice was cold, but it didn't bother Rayne at all. Ice was just a different form of water, and therefore her element.
Out of shear boredom she began to skate around the river, leaving thin trails of ice that quickly disappeared.
"I wish it could be like this all the time. Using our gifts for fun and for peace instead of using it to hurt one another," Rayne thought as she made a figure-eight that disappeared shortly after it was made.

Raziel reapaeared in the right location...sort of he found himself above a tree, he hovered a few moments and came crashing down hitting practically every branch and swearing in all four languages. Luckily it wasn't a tall tree and escaped with a few bruises as he laned on his head.

Jason stopped the cart carrying the dead and wounded Earths. He hopped out and rushed over to the man who had just fallen out of the tree. "Are you alright? Here, let me help you."

He took a hold of the man's arm, and was rewarded with a puff of steam as his flame power reacted with the man's own abilities. Hm? A water wielder? Well well well... "Come on, friend, up you get. Let's take you over to the cart."

Rayne stopped skating and the ice disappeared and she sunk until the water was up to her knees.
She waded back to her root and sat down beneath the tree. Rayne then called up a ball of water onto her palm and began to play with it, molding it into shapes, stretching it, freezing it, and then finally evaporating it.
"I suppose I should be heading back," she mumbled as the water disappeared. Rayne said that, yet she made no move to leave. She didn't want to, it was peaceful here away from all talk of war.

After the battle between Water and Fire ended, Mirabelle mopped her forehead with her sleeve, and stared around.
Man, we shouldn't have come after the Water Village with just this unit, we should have waited for Jason's unit. Captain slain, only 300 out of 1000 soldiers alive and accounted for... I wish Captain Markham were here...
and she sighed deeply. Suddenly, she heard a rustle in the bushes. She investigated and saw a beautiful girl standing on a riverbank. She started to move forward, when her sixth sense kicked in.
That girl's a water element girl...she said to herself. As she looked around, and saw that all of the remaining Fire soldiers were conversing a short distance away, she walked slowly to the riverbank.

Jason helped the slightly concussed Water-wielder up into the cart, then rummaged around in his bag for some medical supplies. "Sorry for the rough-and-tumble nature of my help, stranger, but I'm afraid I only know basic first aid. I'm no doctor."

He applied bandages to the man's head, gently cauterizing the wounds as he went along. "There you go, that should help a bit."

Raziel rubbed his head and growned, he had miss-teleported but wsan't to far outside the air village he was staying at, he new little about the place expept it was a prime target for conscription.

Rayne looked up when she heard a female voice call out to her. She didn't have the ability to recognise whether a person had an element ability, but she did know that she didn't recognise the person that approached her.
"Oh...hello. Can I help you?" She asked rather shyly, but politely nonetheless.

Mirabelle was puzzled by the fact that this water girl didn't realized who she was, but nonetheless, was happy that the girl didn't run away.

Inside the water village, Shinji sat staring out a small window to the destruction the battle had caused. The ground was charred from the flame-weilders power, and the air was thick with moisture from the counter attacks by his fellow water-weilders. It was strange how everyone told him he would make a wonderful soldier, but yet whenever he looked at the aftermath of battle his stomache heaved with some sort of unnamable feeling.
His brow furrowed and his jaw set. It had been some time since they had seen peace, almost longer than his life time spanned. Perhaps it was the war that had instilled the bitterness in him, or maybe it was the incesent urging by his fellows to join in the meham that had done it; either way, his once jovial nature had changed drastically over the years.

Jason stared at Raziel for a moment, then smacked himself on the forhead and laughed, "Is that where I am? Must have gotten turned around somewhere. I'm trying to get these Earths back to their homes. They've got families to go home to, and I hope to build up a sort of credit this way as well. Treat your enemy well and they just might treat you well if the situation is reversed."

He grew serious. "Then again, I might ask you the same question. What's a Water-wielder like yourself doing here, if, that is, you are telling the truth."

Raziel luaghed, "Carefull lad if you trust youur enemy you may get squashed".
He thought for a moment "As for my reasons being here...well thats none of your business". He finised as he stood up and leapt backwoods off the cart then sprinted away.

Jason watched the Water-wielder go, then shook his head and said quietly to himself. "Did I ever say I trusted them?"

Truth be told, he was not lost. He was, in fact, doing a bit of reconnaissance under the pretext of being lost. Now that he was discovered he'd have to change course and head for the Earth Village. "Sorry about that, lads. Now that I know where I am, I can get us pointed the right way to get you home."

Kami sighed having some tea when she felt some one no two someones grab each of her arms from behind.

"What in world are you doing!" the old women cried.

Kami looked on each side of her they were warriors of the war each on her sides holding her arms firmly so she couldn't get away.

"We have been informed that this girl has been avoiding the war.....hiding from it...she is over 13 and can control; her element yes?" he looked down to her with a stern stare.

Kami looked down but nodded wondering who would tell them?

"Lets go....." the other man orders as they lifted her from her seat.

She followed them and looked around people were staring others glaring the old women horrified but as she passed one girl she was smiling. Kami instantly knew it was her, her name was Mimi, she was the same age as Kami and her brother had been sent to war but not her because she couldn't fully control her element. Mimi always hated Kami because she wasn't in the war, obviously Mimi was the one who turned Kami in.

When they reached a camp she was set in a chair inside one of the tents, a large man sat there he looked up to her and the two men and cocked and eyebrow.

"Sir this is the girl you sent for..." one of the men said sternly.

The man nodded and waved them away, once they were gone he looked at her squarely, "I know you aready got here but.....there is a battle going on right now between the fire and earth...this is the perfect oppourtunity to send one of our armys to an air village near by while those elements are distracted. Your will be going with them..."

Kami looked up quickly, "BUT SIR!"

The man held up a hand, "leave...the two men will show you where to go you leave soon..." he waved a hand.

Kami sighed and left the two men leading her to where the others were.

Jason arrived in the Earth village with his "cargo", and made his way to the town hall. Once there he jumped off the cart and began helping the wounded out, then unloaded the dead with due reverence. Just as he finished the village head came out. Jason turned to face him and saluted sharply. "Captain Jason Markham, Third Flamestrike division CO. I am returning your enlisted men, healthy, wounded, and dead. The officers shall remain in Fire in good care as determined by the Asina Convention. I shall now take my leave and allow you to tend to your wounded and bury your dead." He turned to leave, but has halted by a 10-man force of Earth soldiers. "What is the meaning of this?"

The Head spoke. "Did you really believe we would let a high-ranking Fire officer walk away, just because he brought back our men?"

"I had hoped, yes. I thought that the Head of Earth was an honorable individual. Apparently the intelligence on you was wrong. I'll have to amend it when I get back home."

"Back home? You're not leaving here. Take him!"

The Earth soldiers surged forward, but faltered as two of their number burst into flames and another was brought down by a blow from Jason's staff. "I will say this only once: Leave now and you live. Continue this foolishness and I will destroy you without mercy. I'm a short fuse with a hair trigger right now, so piss off."

He held up a hand that was surrounded by blue flames. "One...two..." The sodiers had already dispersed. Jason turned around, but the Head had performed a disappearing act as well. "Now, I am going HOME. You will NOT attempt to get in my way. Is that understood, everyone?"

A ragged chorus of "Yes." answered him. "Good." He climbed up into the cart and set off, back out of the Earth village and toward the Fire village.

The young wolf found a corner that had soft soil and dug his way out.
"Hmm."Midna jumped onto his back.
"Maybe you're not as stupid as you look.Now listen,i'll be riding on your back from now on.But you have to do everything i say,got it?Now,"She kicked him with her heels on his side,"Outside,i have someone i want you to meet."
The wolf ran out of the room he started in and came to a sewer like place.
They came across a little floating blue flame.
"See that,i bet you can see that,can't you.Just hone your senses and you'll see what i mean."
In the wolf's eyes,the ghost of a soldier appeared.
"See?You always have to try things.Now,if you listen carefully,i bet you can hear what he is thinking with those good ears of yours."
The soldier seemed to be muttering under his breath:
"What are those dark beasts?They are horrible,i don't think i can last here anymore.I wonder if anyone is still alive."
Midna looked at the ground.
"What beasts is he talking about?I don't see anything."
Then she noticed a shadow sweep by her and the wolf.
"Ah,so that is what he is talking about.Listen,there are many dangers in this world.Your going to have to use those teeth of yours."
The wolf jumped at what looked like a strangely shaped bug and tore it to pieces.
"See,once again,you always need to try."
They wandered along a bit,listening to any soldier on thier way.
"Your probably wondering why they can't see you.You see,Hyrule was taken over by Twilight.But they haven't really noticed it.You're basically in a parallel
world from them.They don't notice the Twilight,they just get on with there lives,not knowing that they are in a different place.Strange monsters appear out of nowhere.Some actually think they are insane.but that is enough for now,lets go."

((Ok guys I was thinking on going a little more in depth about the nations and how they fight e.g.

Earth - Exellent at seige warfare and city defense, most towns are fortesses, no navy (sticks to inalnd regions)

Fire - Elite corps of heavy infantry and knights, work best with in pitched battles,

Air- Light skirmish troops and commando raids, have elite glider troops and a decent navy.

Water- make use of marines as there fighting troops, exellent navy but work less well on land, make use of Assasins and the like.

I just wanna take it beyond a cross tribal scrap, if its ok with you Kado))

Mirabelle ran off to her soldiers, realizing that now that her captain was dead, she was the superior officer, and thus had to report. She dreaded that, because she haad never made a report in her life, and she didn't know what to say. Then, she had an idea. Last she knew, Captain Markham, had been in a battle with the Earth village, and if she remembered correctly, he would want to take the earth soldiers unable to walk back to the village... maybe she could make a detour...
Okay, soldiers, we are making a detour to the Earth village area.

Why? Shouldn't we head back? asked an ignorant soldier.
Sure, you can head back. Just don't come crying to me when you get attcked... it's better to travel in a group, and we'd have a better chance with Captain Markham. Anyone else wish to complain? She asked threateningly. All of the soldiers shook their heads.
Then it's settled. We move out! She cried.

Raziel strode into the small village he noticed that the pallisade walls had been reinforced and extra guards were at the gate, "Stop there sir" a young guard at the gate ordered Raziel did as he was told. "Move the mask please" the guard continued, Raziel pulled down the black scarf tha covered his face, "oh It's you mercanary head on in but watch you step were on high alert and wont tolerate trouble". He said distastefully, Raziel simply nodded and wlaked in.

A fire ball narrowly missed Raziel's head as he stood on the deck of the Rain hammer a mighty vessel that lead the attack on the Fire nations sea blockade, the Water force had to break through the blockade in order to get vital troops to press the assualt on the fire capital.
"Nice day for battle wouldn't you say midshipman?" the captain addressed Raziel, Raziel nodded. "Bording partys are ready sir!" yelled another officer, it was Raida two years Raziels senior. "Excellent Raziel shall lead the first wave" the captain was cut off by Raida "But sir you said!"
"I know but Raziel is the best swordsman in the fleet, theres more to combat then the elements.

Raida stormed off in anger, "Thank you sir, I won' let you down". Raziel said apreciativly. "Ice bridges READY" he yelled above the din, katana drawn, behind him was a retinue of ten of the toughest, veteran marines armed with cutlasses, staves and wicked daggers, on other parts of the ship four more ten man partys readied.

"NOW" Raziel cried as he raised the water to the right level and froze it "FOR THE AZURE KINGDOM!" a marine yelled as they charged, the five bording partys charged into the Fire nation defenders, a marine was ignited by a flame solider as they leapt into the fray" I'll contiue it later on

As Jason drove his cart back home, he thought about the man who had fallen out of the tree. "He seemed familiar, somehow..."

Hearing the sound of marching feet, he tensed and prepared for an attack. As the sound grew louder he began to relax. He could hear the marching chant of the Fire armies. He began to turn his cart toward the approaching Fire force, when he toppled out of his seat, felled by a crossbow bolt through his shoulder.

The Water-wielder asssassin, not trusting the bolt to finish the job, summoned his power and formed a bubble of water around Jason's head. "I've caught quite a good prize this time. Be well rewarded, I will."

Between blood loss and the water filling his air passages, Jason was fading fast. He tried to summon his flames to evaporate the water, but he was too weakened already to raise the necessary temperatures. He prayed the Fire force would arive soon, otherwise they'd find his corpse, most likely without its head. With that thought his vision faded to black...

Rayne looked up to find the position of the sun and figured it was about time to head back to the village to prepare for guard duty.
She sighed. If it wasn't for this war she wouldn't have to spend tedious hours positioned somewhere around the village.

Mirabelle looked ahead, worried by the feeling of dread that always accompanied the knowledge of a another hostile element. She ran forward, and gasped as she recognised an unconscience Captain Markham being carried off by a water assasin. She summoned all of her rage and directed a narrow blast of fire at the assasin's heart. Satisfied that the blast had worked, she ran towards the Captain.
Oh, Jason, wake up! she cried. Next, she summoned her healing skills. She worked on Jason, and vowed that she wouldn't stop until he woke up. But how to explain that more than half her unit was dead, including the captain? That would be hard...

((Carried away? Milly, I was being drowned in a bubble of water. Assassins don't carry whole bodies away, just the head. Oh well...))

Jason swam in a sea of darkness, turning this way and that to avoid those around him. Those were the souls of every person he'd ever killed, and they all sought to exact revenge. They tore at his essence, they shredded his soul, and sought to cut the already frayed line that bound him to the world of the living. Yet even as they clawed at the tether it began to stregthen, and as it strenghtened it started to pull him back from the sea of vengeful spirits, until he was once more depostied in his own body, which began to cough up the water that had forced its way into his lungs.

His eyes fluttered open, to reveal his saviour's face. "Unh...Mirabelle? ((Going out on a limb)) Sergent Mirabelle? What are you doing he-" His question was interrupted by another coughing fit, but instead of water what came up this time was blood.

Mirabelle was relieved that the Captain had awoken. She stood up, and dusted off her clothes.
Captain Markham, I... uh... was passing by when I noticed your trouble. she lied, hoping it wasn't too obvious. But looking behind her, at the pitiful half a unit, she knew that it wasn't any use. If the Captain didn't get suspicious as to why she was acting in control, then mark her words, his brain must have been damaged. She smiled sheepishly.

Jason forced himself into a sitting position, using his staff for support. "And I am most glad you did pass by, although I find it odd that a military force was going for a stroll in enemy territory."

He gave her a steady look, then shrugged, remembering too late the crossbow bolt wound in his shoulder, wincing as the pain raced through his arm. "Well, never mind. Let me speak with your commanding officer. Is it still old Major Pendrik or did he finally retire?"

Raziel snapped out of his daydream he would have time to reminise about his days in the Navy later, with a ale in his hand an possibly two women in his arms.
He looked over and saw a company of air nation solidiers marching into the small town, he noticed a young female Airomancer staring at him, she was young and from the terrified look she had been consripted recently.
"What could be happening" Raziel wondered to himself.

Rayne went home and changed into the standard uniform that the water army had provided for her. When she was finished and was ready to head out to receive orders about her post for her shift she quickly stuffed some food into the small pouch attached to her uniform belt.
She stood before Guard Captain Shae and tried not to quiver. The captain frightened her as he barked orders about keeping vigilant and letting no enemy to get past. Then she was sent out of the village to patrol the surrounding area with a few rookies to be under her command.
Rayne placed them at strategic points that would give them a good view and allow easy communication between them. She then settled down in a spot to be bored for the next several hours until the bell rand for the changing of the watch.

One of the men on Kami's right side nodded to the man a quick hello before they went over to another man waiting fro them not to far from the man they had passed(Raziel) "sir this girl was hiding from the war we've captured her and she is to be sent into battle...." he said firmly.

Kami clenched her eyes closed tight to keep from crying she hated the war and everything about it.

Ummmmm... well... we just finished battling the water village, and... we lost considerably. I ummmm... witnessed an enemy soldier kill the Major... I avenged him immediately, of course, but the battle ended with less than half the unit still alive... I was the highest ranking officer left... and I thought that we'd have more of a chance if... and here, her cheeks started to go red, we joined up with you... as you're a great warrior and all, we'd be able to get back home safer! she said, mumbling at first, but brightening up as she went. She smiled sheepishly at Jason again, awaiting his reaction.

Jason closed his eyes, forcing the tears down. Major Pendrik Greer had been a very dear friend, and before that Jason's own CO. It had been he who had appealed to the Supreme Commanders of the Fire armies to give Jason his first command. That had paved the way for victory after victory, allowing Jason to rise faster than any other officer in the past hundred years. And now he was gone...Jason gave up. He let out a scream of mixed anguish and rage. The Water village would pay for this, pay a thousand-fold. And after them...the Supreme Command of Fire village was in desperate need of replacement if they would send a his friend with such a small force into the Waterlands.. It would start with this small group of survivors added to his own Third Flamestrike division, and it would grow. The coup would come, but not today. Today he had a duty to perform.

He stood and faced the survivors. "We will return home long enough to join up with the Third Flamestrike. Those too injured to continue fighting will stay there to heal. The rest of us will return to the point where you were defeated, and we shall return the favor. Are you ready?"

Mirabelle watched as Jason fought to hide back the tears she knew he had. She knew of the Major and the Captain's relationship as friends, and she was sorry.
I tried to save him, I really did, she said, sadly but the wounds were too deep.
She stepped forward, and put her hand on his shoulder.
Anyways, yes, I do believe we are ready to head out. You have command, Captain. she said, with a hint of a blush as her hand left his shoulder.
I will fight and I will avenge all who died. The water assasins will pay! she cried. Just then, the image of Rayne popped into her head.
Just the assasins, no villagers, she added to herself.

"Right! Load the worst cases into the cart, leaving room for five additional people. We'll be cycling through the ranks of those less wounded who are too weakened to march for the whole distance. Sergeant Mirabelle, you drive. The rest of us will march alongside."

One of the enlisted men spoke up. "But sir, what about your own injuries?"

"Hah! I've lived through worse. Besides, your sergeant is an extremely skilled healer. I could carry two of you on my back if need be, provided it's the light ones!" This got a laugh from the troops, and brought a small smile to his lips. These men had suffered a crushing defeat. It was his job to boost morale, otherwise many of them would not make it home. "Now, let's move! The faster we get home, the faster we can turn around and kick some Watery tail!" A cheer went up, and the not-quite-so ragged force began to march home.

Jason eased himself through the men until he was walking level with the driver's seat of the cart. "Sergeant, I didn't get the chance to thank you properly back there. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. That experience would have ended my career rather abruptly had you not come."

Mirabelle blushed terribly, hoping the Captain wouldn't notice.Well, I... uh... I did it for the sake of the Fire village... we uh... need a leader like y- whoa! she cried, stopping the cart. 10 water assasins had appeared, and they looked dangerous. half of them started towards the cart, Mirabelle, Jason, and the wounded, and the other half went for the rest of the unit. Mirabelle screamed and summened the same kind of fire blast she had sent towards Jason's would be assasin, aiming it towards one assasin. He dodges it, smiling and starting to cast the water bubble that had almost killed Jason... aiming at Mirabelle. Mirabelle's mind flashed. She didn't remember passing out, but she did, with her last thought being,
Why didn't I tell him my feelings

Jason smiled to himself while listening to Mirabelle's shy explaination. She was a talented soldier, an exquisite healer, and pretty cute on top of that. He was shaken from his thoughts by the appearance of the Water-wielders. His blood boiled instantly, the rage at the attempt on his life and the loss of his dear friend almost blinding him. He flash-flamed the closest attacker and prepared to face the next when he felt a weight land on his back. Looking behind, he saw Mirabelle slumped on him, a water bubble encasing her head. His blood ran cold. "No...I won't let it happen!"

A quick situation assessment showed him the one responsible. Though it left him open to two other attackers he focused all of his considerable power on that one. The caster raised a water shield, but it was nowhere near enough. The shield held for about a third of a second before it was boiled away and the bolt of fire enveloped the Water-wielder, reducing him to greasy ash, and with him dead the bubble around Mirabelle's head collapsed. Jason had no time to congratulate himself, though. He spun, barely dodging the sword thrust which would have severed his spine. His staff flashed through the air and slammed right between the eyes of the man, shattering his skull.

"Wait, wasn't there another-" His movement was not quite so clean this time, and the blade scraped across his ribs. He let out a string of curses and jumped back, putting distance between himself and his opponent, but still keping himself in front of the unconscious Mirabelle. His strength was failing, for even with Mirabelle's heling power he had still lost a fair amount of blood.

He prepared for the assassin to rush, only to see the man turn and flee. He was joined by one other. A cheer went up from the Fire troops. Skilled the assassins might have been, but they were nowhere near enough to kill off these brave soldiers who were now under his command.

He would need to gain an account of the events from the troops to gain a clear picture, but he had a more important task to perform. Kneeling down, he began to pump Mirabelle's chest to force the water from her lungs. He tried to ignore the softness under his hands, for now was not the time. When she started to cough up the water he knew he could relax. She would regain consciousness soon.

"Well done, men! Despite being taken by surprise you fought above and beyond what injured men should be capable of. Post guard and set up camp. We'll rest until morning."

Raziel marched up to the guards and asked "Whats going on?", the guard who lloked like a fresh recruit to the town watch looked at him sadly, "Where expecting a battle the air nation army has sent reinforcments... you don't think the town is under threat do you?" he replied ernestly.
Raziel felt pity for the young man an emotion he had not felt in a long time, "...you'll be fine". Raziel said simply,

The young guard looked mournfully at Kami, he opened his mouth the say somthing but then stopped and went back to his patrol. Raziel shrugged if trouble came to the town, he would defend himself, otherwise he didn't realy care.

Wandering alone the dark sewers Midna noticed something on the ceiling and decided to let the wolf know what it was.
It was a small hook hanging down quite low.
"See that?When i raise my hand you need to jump out and grab that with those teeth of yours,got it?"
Without waiting,the young wolf lunged into the air and grabbed onto the hook and pulled it down with a great force.This resulted in opening a door.
"Hmm,well done,nice work.C'mon,up those stairs,you need to meet someone."
Midna and the wolf rode up the stairs and found a door slightly open.
"Well,aren't you going in?"
With Midna's impatience,the wolf growled but went inside the ajar door.
Inside there was dark figure with a cloak on.There appeared to be a voice coming from the cloak:
"So i guess your here."
Midna seemed to know this person so she spoke up.
"Yes we're here,princess."
"Midna and the young wolf,come here."
"I'm suprised you remember my name."Midna sighed.

Mirabelle woke up sputtering, and cold. She quickly used a healing spell on herself, and got up slowly. She was lying on the ground, amongst the rest of the injured. She quickly looked around for Jason, and relaxed when she saw him. If he wasn't hurt, it was okay. A soldier walking past noticed her up, and came to talk
Well, Sargent, how are you feeling. You had the Captain worried!
I'm... fine... The Captain was... what? Could you please get him for me? she asked
Sure thing, Missie! he grinned.
Mirabelle rested and waited for Jason to come. She would explain everything to him.

When the medic had attempted to deal with Jason's wounds he had been waved off. While he knew it was dangerous to leave a wound untreated, Jason also knew that a commander had to look after his subordinates before himself. Jason hand-picked three other men and stood watch with them while the medic dealt with the enlisted men and the rest of the troops relaxed.

Every so often Jason looked back at the section where the wounded were being treated, specifically looking for activity from a certain sergeant...'No! Stop looking back, Jason Markham! You're an easy target for any assassin when you act so love-struck!'

Jason snorted at himself, and knew his inner voice was right. She would wake up soon enough, but only if he prevented any enemies from slipping through. He forced himself to scan the night, noting every movement, although they were all either folliage rustling or animals scampering.

Fifteen minutes later a soldier came up to him and saluted. "Sir!"

"At ease, private. What can I do for you?"

"Sir, Sergeant Mirabelle has awoken and is asking for you."

Jason's heart leapt, though he forced himself to remain outwardly calm. "Thank you, private. Please take over my post."

"Sir, yes sir!"

Making himself walk, Jason entered the tent where Mirabelle had been set up upon awakening. Seeing her sitting up and waiting gave him joy, though again he kept it concealed. "Good to see you up, Sergeant. I thought I might have been too late. Now, what was it you wanted to see me about?"

Mirabelle smiled weakly.
Captain, I had the chance to save the Major, but I was too slow. I was too worried about... I felt something weird and I... I messed up, Captain, and I'm really sorry... Thank you for saving me... she said quickly, blushing during the last sentence.
Er, Captain? I... uh... wanted to ask you something...
and she looked down as her face went the colour of a beet.

While Jason was upset when she said she could have saved Pendrik, he was soldier enough to know that nothing is certain on the battlefield. "Don't worry about it. What's done is done. Remember your error and strive to never repeat it. That's all I can ask, and I know Major Pendrik would have said the same."

He looked at her with as she turned red, and fought to hide a smile. Intimidated by a superior officer or something more? "Go ahead, sergeant. If you have a question, ask and I shall answer to the best of my ability, as is my duty."

Raziel walked off to the inn he was staying at, most people ignored him but there were a few muttered insults towards him, he didn't realy care however and continued up to his room.

Oh, uh, Captain... I... uh... oh, never mind... ummmm... I... well... do you enjoy the war? she asked, finally coming to another question to cover for the one she had meant to ask. She looked up at Jason, and blushed.

Ummmmm... Captain? I... uh... well... I... ummmmm... uh... I... need to relieve myself, could you move? she asked, as Jason was in the entrance to the tent, and she got up and tried to get past him. She blushed once more as she ended up looking at him. She muttered under her breath, so he wouldn't hear,

Kami looked at both of them, "sir might I have some time to rest my arms?....."

"You think we're going to fall for that!" he snared at her.

Kami shrugged, "do I look like the type who'd want to run and become a fugitive?....." she asked shyly with an innocent look.

The men looked at each other and shrugged letting go they went back to signing her in.

Kami stood there for a long moment as to show them she could be trust, one....two.... she took a deep breath and readied herself, three! turning she quickly began to run off as fast as she could down the wind village as she heard voices behind her.

"STOP! GET THAT GIRL!"

Kami glanced over as she noticed the man from earlier coming up she tried to ignore him as she continued to run.

"Hey stop that girl!" Raziel looked out of his window and saw three men chase the Airomancer he saw earlier. With a sigh he dived out of the window and sprinted towards the men, he deleivered a swift kick to one man knocking him over, "MErcanary scum, you'l pay for messing with us!" one of them threatened.

Kami noticed the man helping her and wondered why and decided she'd think of it later as she continued seeing the forest coming up as two more men stepped in front of her.

Jason laughed bitterly. "Like the war? No. I joined up rather than wait to be conscripted, but that doesn't mean I enjoy the endless slaughter. I joined because I thought I could help the Fire country, but the more I fight the longer this war goes on. I have a plan, but..." He stopped. No need to expose more than necessary. The fewer who knew the fewer who would be punished if he failed.

"Ummmmm... Captain? I... uh... well... I... ummmmm... uh... I... need to relieve myself, could you move?"

Jason almost jumped out of the way. "My deepest apologies, Mirabelle! Go right ahead."

As she passed him he heard her mumble something that he couldn't quite catch. 'Well, if it's important I'll know soon enough.'

As she disappeared from sight he realized with a shock that he had called her by her personal name, rather than by rank. It was a serious breach of military protocol, especially since they hardly knew each other. 'What's come over me? I am a soldier! I am disiplined! I do not lose my mind over a pretty, talented, intelligent...NO! Stop it!'

He ran out of the tent in the direction opposite that which Mirabelle had taken and didn't stop running until he reached a nearby stream and plunged his head into it to cool his fevered brain. Wisps of steam hissed up into the night air.

Mirabelle walked around trying to clear her head. She couldn't figure out how to tell Jason that she loved him. She came to a stream, and saw Jason with his head underwater. Something leaped up inside of her, and she walked up beside him, not talking, hoping that he would see her and talk to her. She sent a thin streak of fire, not enough to hurt, and tapped Jason with it. She smiled warmly as she waited for him to come up.

Jason felt the flame jet and rolled into the stream fully, preparing to face his attacker. When he came up, power ready, he saw, instead of an enemy, Mirabelle standing there. He thanked the gods it was dark now, as his face was red enough to put a tomato to shame. "Ah...um...yes? Can I help you...oh bugger, I look like a total idiot right now don't I? Yes, the captain's too jumpy right now and has gone to go play in the stream, he's lost his mind and is playing in the water, he's gone round the bend and will be making mudpies soon."

He realizes he is blithering but is helpless to stop, until he notices her trying to stifle a laugh. He bursts out in laughter himself and sloshes over to the edge. "Well, now that I'm soaking wet care to join me? The water's great."

Mirabelle grinned and slid into the water. She smiled slyly, and splashed him. A giggle left her as steam rolled off him.
Permission to call you by your name, Captain? she asked, giggling still.

Jason refrained from splashing back, but only because there was the slight possibility of sending a scalding cloud of steam with the water, and he would never forgive himself if she came to harm. It was the curse of those strong in the Power of Flame, that touching water could cause that.

Instead he ducked under the water. He then summoned a small fireball, keeping it intact by exerting himself to a level almost equal with his battle level. He cast the ball forward, and it detonated about ten feet away, causing the water to gusher into the air and rain down on Mirabelle. He popped up then. "Gotchya!"

Raziel taunted no of the men dived at him but Raziel sidestepped it, with a swift movment he yanked the stopper out of his waterskin and pulled the water out, he sent a blast of it whipping it one mans face then froze it and smashed it into the other knocking him out.

The two men that stood between Kami and the forest were quickly gone with a huge gust of wind that blew them back and to the side they each smacked into a different building, Kami calmed her power from the attack and got ready to run again. She was having so much fun that she forgot about the unit of soldiers nearby and instead concentrated on playing around with Jason...

Er, Jason? I... um... I've liked you since before I even enlisted in the army, you were always the man I strove to become. Would... who is replacing the Major? she asked, softly. I mean, it's not your place to decide completely, but you do have a say, don't you?

Raziel lopped the head of a fire warrior and stabbed another one in the stomach, the fire nation had a disadvatage when it came to defending there ships becuase there powers could do more damage to themselves at such a close range.
"Hack them down, show no quarter!" Raziel roared to his Marine bodyguard eight of them remained, one a young man named Tantius was killed crossig over, hit by a crossbow bolt, the other casualty was a marine named Herca, his head reduced to cinders by a fire bolt.
The marines were outnumbered however and the second wave hadnt arrived, "Dammit where are our reinforcements?!" Raziel swore Raida must be holding them back.

"I have some say, and my war record speaks for itself. I going to push to have your unit melded with my own. You and your men will become members of the Third Flamestrike. That way we can avenge Major Pendrik," Jason reached out and drew Mirabelle close, holding her as he had held no other, and whispered in her ear. "And we can be together, you and I."

Kami smiled crookedly as the guards fled after seeing a katana, she turned and wondered if she should run now while she had the chance or thank him.

Mirabelle smiled, and let Jason hold her. The last man that had tried this, had been sent running by a fire streak, which was her favourite offence. But this was different. She loved Jason, and she would let him hold her. Mirabelle grasped Jason around the neck, and held him dearly.
That's what I've always wanted, Jason, she whispered.

Raziel sheathed his Katana saying to himself "Time to skip town I guess." He looked behind him and saw the girl a little way of from him, he shrugged to himself and headed back to the inn to collect his stuff.

Jason continued to hold Mirabelle for what seemed like eternity, but at the same time felt like no time at all. He finally forced himself to release her. "Come, the men are going to wonder where we've gotten to. We should get back."

He took her hand and helped her out of the stream. Once they were both out their fire abilities quickly dried them off. As they walked back to the camp, Jason straightened out his uniform to look presentable. He had to make a good impression on the men who would soon be his to command. Added to is own Third Flamestrike, it would be the start of the army with which he would end this endless war, one way or another.

The sun was gone and only the moon and stars lit the land, everyone in the camp besides night watch had turned in for the night. Kami crept up before finally reaching the mans window sitting in the window sill which wasn't very thick she knocked on his window.

Mirabelle headed off to her private(?) tent.

Along the way, she hummed a tune she used to sing in those few years before the war when she had no lessons. When she arrived, she hesitated, worrying about her pet, Firex, who always seemed to find her, no matter how far she went. Sure enough, when she entered, Firex was waiting, a firey red pheonix, perched on a trunk with her clothes in it.
I'm sorry, Firex, but you'll have to move, she sang, happily. Firex cocked his head, and let out a quiet, coo. Mirabelle laughed. I need to change, you silly bird! she exclaimed. Firex obeyed, and Mirabelle changed into a loose fitting tunic for the evening. It was suitable for a chance ambush, yet light enough that she could relax. As a safety measure, she grabbed a few throwing knives, her sword, and put on a pair of gloves. The last thing she did was take her plum hair and put it into high set pigtails and fasten a silver amulet around her neck. Firex cocked his head again, he had never seen this before. Mirabelle smiled, My mother's she explained. She was ready for a typical evening at an army camp, although retaining her femininity, for example, refusing the drinks and gambling games going on around her. Instead, she looked for Jason, Firex flying above her. Some soldiers looked up at the pheonix, saying I can't believe a girl like her, wit all respect, could train a bird like that! Mirabelle and Firex ignored the commentary, having heard it a lot. Mirabelle wondered what Jason would say when he learned about her pet.

Raziel had changed into some unassuming brown clothes and had packed his stealth gear into a rucksack, everything was packed, almost everything on the bed lay a scruffy looking teddy/puppet with yellow fur save its ears, he picked it up and looked atit tenderly for a moment before placing it carefuly in his pack.

The wolf looked up at Midna,confused about how she knew his name.
Midna smiled reasuringly at Link and continued.

Meanwhile as Raziel packed his things Kami was summoning up the courage until finally she spoke up, "um excuse me?" she said knocking on his window as she sat in the outer window sill.

Raziel heard a knock on the window he wheeled around his hand ready to draw his sword, to his suprise it was that girl from ealier, Raziel unlocked the window and opened it, "Um....yeah?" he said struddling to think of what to say to a young girl sitting on a window sill.

Mirabelle weaved her way through the soldiers, looking for Jason. All the way, Firex was above her.

She pointed down at the window lock indicating she wanted him to open it that way she didn't have to shout and she wouldn't wake anyone up in the village.

Jason sat in his own tent, working feverishly on the plan of his coup. With the combined might of his Third Flamestrike and Mirabelle's he would have a larger force under his personal command then anyone else in the Firelands, barring the two generals who ruled Fire. He could use this force to "convince" others to join him, and eventually have an army large enough to depose the Two and set himself in their place. With the new political clout he could work to put an end to these endless, pointless wars. "With those two removed, no more would officers be sent to invade the other Elemental Lands, and no more would die such idioticly pointless deaths. If only-" He stopped short, hearing someone outside his tent. He prepared for the necessity to kill whoever it might be and whipped open the flap, only to see Mirabelle with a young phoenix perched on her shoulder. "Oh! Ah...hi. Please, come in Mirabelle." He stepped aside and held the flap open.

[Kali-chan]

Mirabelle slowly walked in, but not before shooing Firex off to find his next meal. She smiled at Jason, and looked for somewhere to sit.
Sorry to disturb you, Jason, but I have had one too many evenings with those soldiers, and I would prefer not to spend my evening with them... battles, they are my comrads... evenings, sometimes I pretend that I don't know them, she said, giggling,
But I mean them no disrespect! she hastily added, wondering if she had sounded self-centered.

Jason laughed. "I know what you mean. The enlisted men can get on your nerves pretty quickly. I'm guessing it's even worse for you, being a woman. Cat-calls, wolf-whistles, the lot."

He drew her close and whispered in her ear. "I have something I need you to see, but it is highly dangerous. Can I trust you, dear Mirabelle?"

Raziel cuatiosly stepped over and unlocked the the window and opened it, "Um.... what are you doing?"

[Kali-chan]

Mirabelle stifled back a confused look, and nodded.
Jason, I have many secrets I would never tell in my life, you can trust me with aything, she whispered, looking towards the exit. She put her hand on his shoulder, and looked in his eyes,
However much I would be tempted to speak of a secret you entrust me with, I would never, for I do not want a rift between us. she said, softly.

"Then come to my desk, and I will show you." Jason led Mirabelle through the gloom to his wrting surface, igniting the candle with a small tongue of flame from his finger.

"Here is a rough draft of my plan to plan to avenge the Major - by usurping the Two Generals and setting myself in their place. With you at my side, if you would accept."

He detailed the plan, going into more and more detail as he spoke and scribbling down these new angles as they rose. So engrossed was he in the description that he did not notice the growing expression of shock spreading across Mirabelle's face. "My plan is nearly complete, and as soon as we return to Fire village we can begin to implement it. I'll hammer it into shape as we move."

Kami slipped into the room rubbing her arms it was cold outside, "I just came to thank you fro earlier.." she said bowing to the man who was in front of her.

When Jason had finished his description, Mirabelle's head was whirring. Even still, she nodded and pretended to understand. She would assist Jason to the bitter end, avenging the Major and ending the war. Hearing a screech outside, Mirabelle stood and said,
That would be Firex, letting me know that he has something he wants cooked... I have to go. I will see you around, my love. and she left, sadly.
She found Firex with an injury in his leg. Gasping, she tapped into her healing powers, but stumbled before she could use them. She called a Private over.
Private, what happened to Firex? she asked, quickly. She was too tired to heal. The man looked at Firex.
I don't know, Sargent, he was like this when he arrived. He came from the North. he said.
Mirabelle stifled a cry, and tol hm to get Jason.

"Erm really it's no trouble" Raziel replied feeling a little suprised "So waht are you going to do now, you can't stay here or you'll be killed for Cowardice".

The cloaked person took down their hood.It appeared to be Princess Zelda.
"Young wolf,listen well to the story i am about to tell you..."
She began....

Kami nodded, "Yes and I can't go back to my village....I never really thought it through I guess it was a really stupid act....but..." she looked up, "I guess I'll just live in the forest as a traveler...." she said sighing.

Jason had been shaken out of the world he was in by Mirabelle's declaration, stating she had to leave to feed her phoenix. Though he wished she would stay, he knew that she had a good reason. A hungry phoenix is a bad thing to have around.

He returned to his plan, trying to figure out how many COs he could count on to join him without a fight, when a private called him from outside the tent flap. "Go away, I'm busy!"

"Sir, Sergeant Mirabelle needs you. She-" This was all the private got out before Jason rushed past him.

He quickly located Mirabelle, crouched over her pet, on the verge of tears. "Dear heart, what is the matter?" He looked down and noticed the wound on the bird's leg, wondering why she hadn't healed such a grievious injury. His quick mind rapidly arrived at the conclusion that her powers were too depleted to perform the necessary task. He reached into his own energy well and saw that his own weren't much stronger. 'Egad, is it any wonder? Fighting the Earthmen in a vicious battle, fighting them again on their own turf, surviving an assassination attempt, fighting off more assassins, and then Mirabelle's and mine little playtime in the stream? No wonder we're both weak. Still, I should have enough...'

He tapped into his lifeforce to draw enough power to cauterize the wound to stop the bleeding. Even by taking a year off his own life he barely had enough strength to complete the task (due to the fact that the lifeforce-to-energy transfer is pretty inefficient without a base energy store), and as soon as it was finished he slumped to the ground and blacked out.

[Kali-chan]

Mirabelle gasped as Jason fell unconscious, and grabbed him
No! No, my love, no! I shouldnn't have called for you! I knew you would do this! she cried. As the nearby soldiers stared at her, she turned to them with tears in her eyes.
Does anyone have healing powers? she asked, painfully. The soldiers stared at each other, puzzled, as Mirabelle turned back to Jason and cried her heart out. Deep in her mind, she told herself that only Wind Warriors could have caused a wound like the one Firex had sustained. She vowed to take revenge on the next wind warrior she encountered. Just then, Firex layed his head on her shoulder.

"Besides I'm going to find another village...." she began Kami stopped knowing she was babbling on she bowed once more, "anyway I would probably be off to fighting right now if it weren't fr you so.....thank you..." she said gratefully. (lucky4life has asked me to have my character meet her's in a water village btw)

Kami made a face but turned to go back out the window into the cold night.

((Well, lucky4life, I would hazard to say that things are going to get a bit more interesting in your neck of the woods soon. Captain Jason Markham still needs to avenge the death of his good friend Major Pendrik Greer, killed at the hands of Water Marines.

On a side note, my keyboard is dying, so please be understanding of any typos I may accidentally insert. I catch what I can, but some slip through.))

Jason wandered in and out of consciousness, feeling Mirabelle's tears on his face...the confusion of the troops...lifted and carried...the cool darkness of his tent...

His spirit looked into a world the living never saw. He saw a single hourglass, it's sands suddenly accelerating for a moment, then returningto a steady trickle. A tall figure in black robes bearing a scythe pointed at him, and though no sound issued forth from the shadowy depths of the hood, Jason got the ditinct feeling that the myterious figure was laughing at him. This annoyed Jason to no end, for he was a soldier with few equals. He had danced with Death many times in his career, and he was the one that should be doing the laughing. He raised his hands to summon the fires of his soul to do his bidding, yet as they streaked toward the Grim Reaper he disappeared, only to reappear behind Jason. The scythe slashed down at his head...

Jason awoke, a cold sweat coating his body. He raised a trembling hand and wiped his face with it. "It was only a nightmare...or was it a vision? Why was the Reaper of Souls laughing at me?"

Raziel laughed to himself at the notion as he walked alng the trail to his destination he let his mind wander little did he know that his future was abut to collide with that girl.

Kami was sitting by a river catching fish for her breakfast she hadn't slept the night before because it was so cold she had to get used to living out doors again until she found another village.

Only ten of the thirty Marines were left including Raziel, they had managed to take over roughly half the ship but now the Fire warriors had put up a stubborn defense, Raziel wouldnt be suprised if they scuppered the ship at the last minute. "DAMMIT WHERE ARE REINFORCEMENTS!" Raziel bellowed as kicked a soildier down a flight of steps.

~~Flashback Part IV~~

Second Lieutenant Jason Markham was doing the best he could. After being transfered out of Major Pendrik's squad he had been placed as second-in-command of a different force, pending review of his record to determine whether he was fit for a command of his own. They were assigned to guard a ship carrying supplies to Fire troops in the Waterlands. Boring busy work, at first. Nothing happened during the voyage, and Jason, disciplined though he was, was sorely tempted to doze off.

That changed in a hurry. In less than a minute the ship was swarming with Water army Marines. The Major commanding the Fire troops was cut own before he could react. Jason, suddenly in command, was quicker to respon to the threat. Screamed orders brought all Fire troops to readiness, and a pitched battle began.

It soon became apparent that, as skilled as they were at naval warfare, the Water Marines were being matched by the soldiers of Fire. Throughout the battle Jason scanned his enemies, trying to single out the one in charge. Finally, with only ten Marines and thirteen Knights left standing, Jason discovered the officer. A powerful opponent, judging by the bodies at his feet. A Fire Knight flew backwards down the steps leading to the wheel. Jason saw the danger - without the wheel the Fire toops were at the mercy of the Marines.

With renewed purpose he sprinted forward, conserving his flames until he encountered this one man. A Marine sprang up between them, but was struck down by a vicious blow from Jason's staff.

The Marines' CO stood steady, facing this mad rush. He had the higher ground, and thus had the advantage. His confidence in his position evaporated as the deck beneath his feet burst into flames. He jumped back, and his vacation of that spot allowed Jason to reach the upper deck.

As Firex's head laid on Mirabelle's shoulder, he started to sing. All of the soldiers who heard the song were filled with joy and hope, and Mirabelle felt strength. She placed her hands on Jason's chest, and began to pour all of her renewed strength into energy for him to be strong, relying on Firex to aid her. When all was finished, Firex slumped to the ground, at a complete loss for energy, and all of the soldiers, including Mirabelle, felt strngthened.

Raziel continued to his destination and came across a familier face it was the Airomancer girl, "Still alive then" he greeted in an amlost pleasent manner.
"You won't be for long!" a malovent voice sneered from behind, suddenly the two travelers were surrounded by bandits.

Jason's fury grew a his man was drained of his fluids, leaving him a wasted husk. He summoned his own power, outlining his hands in flames, flames that did not damage the staff he held ready, but which wouldd burn the flesh from the bones of this Water-wielder he faced.

"Withdraw, Hydromancer. You can't win, neither you nor your men."

Another Fire Knight climbed the steps, eager to aid his new CO, but Jason waved him away. "Take the wheel. Try and aim us more or less towards land, so that the Fire troops waitingfor this shipment can come and get it."

"Sir, yes sir!"

As the soldier moved to the wheel, Jason interposed himself between the impromtu pilot and the officer he faced. "You want the ship? You'll have to go through me first, and I assure you, that is no easy task."

Raziel balked at the demand "And let you use those supplys to sluaghter our troops, I don't think so!" He froze the ball of liquid and shot it towards the brazen commander, it was a futile gesture but it would annoy him.

Raziel smiled to himself this girl had a fighting spirit, He looked at the leader and said "It's not nice to sneak up on people" in a patronizing tone, "I'll show you nice you..." he stopped and cluchted his throat as a tiny throwing dagger sunk into his wind pipe, Raziel had perfected his aim with such things and was deadly with Shuriken and the like.

Three of the bandits were already left in a small twister that Kami had created while dodging attacks from their weapons. Because she pretty much lived alone her whole life she had a lot of free time and she had practiced a lot.

Mirabelle picked up Firex and carried him to her tent. She laid him on her bed, and came back out to see if Jason would be all right.

Jason batted aside the ball of ice with his staff, almost annoyed that he was being taken lightly. "Why do you hesitate? Why not try and drain my fluids as you did my unfortunate subordinate? I'm curious to see whether you can suck me dry before I cause the air in your lungs to ignite."

He fired a tight jet of flame, trying to force the hydromancer back, awy fom the wheel and possibly off he ship.

((I do like that term, by the way. Guess that makes me a pyromancer. FIRE!! WOOHOO!!))

Jason struggled to sit up, but was still too weakeed from his life-drain. He lay back and contemplated the dream/vision. He realized that the sand in the top portion of the glass had been disturbingly low. Did that mean that he was not destined to remain long on this world? Or was it another's glass? His blood ran cold at the possibility that it could be his dear heart, Mirabelle.

He summoned what strength and called the soldier standing guard at the entrance to the tent. "Get someone to check on Mirabelle. I need to know if she's alright."

"Of course, sir, but perhaps you should worry about yourself before others for once."

"Heh...you may be right, but it's my greatest fault, putting others before myself."

One bandit was left to Raziel the rest had there hands tied by Kami's air abilitys, Hpwever the last man standing was a huge bruiser, a head taller then Raziel and bearing a war hammer Raziel had his work cut out for him.

Once Kami knew they couldn't escape she turned to the large man in front of Raziel.

As Mirabelle checked on Firex, a soldier came in, saying that Jason had sent him to check on her. She smiled, and told him to tell Jason that she was just fine, and loved the stream at night... hoping he would get her point. The soldier didn't understand this cryptic message, but delivered it anyway.

When the soldier returned and delivered Mirabelle's message, Jason smiled and settled once more into the camp bed. He'd need to rest to regain enough strength to make this moonlight rendezvous.

[Delta-Pheonix]

Raziel gripped his Katana and waited, as the huge beast of a man charged at him Raziel drew the blade and in a single movement sliced the bandit, the bandit puased for a moment as a thin line of bloood apeared on his right shoulder crossing down to his left thigh, and fell apart.

[Crimson Wolf]

"A man came with an army...he came up to the top of the castle...he runed everything.What i did notice was that he had strange power,dark,evil power that was unthinkable of.I had one choice...surrender Hyrule,or die."
Zelda paused and thought.
"Link,i know why you are here.You are destined to come here.Fate has chosen your path.Now,in order for you to save Hyrule,you must find and awaken the four Light Spirits.Once you have done so,light will be restored to that place.Please,do this for the whole of Hyrule."
Foot steps were heard coming from the stairs.
"Quick,the guard is coming.You must get out of here pronto."
Midna looked down at Link.
"C'mon then!Don't just sit there!"
Midna and Link rode out to the stairs and Link ran down the stairs.
Midna pulled his ears and stopped him.
"No!No!The guard is coming that way!"
She looked up and noticed a window and turned his head that way.
"Look!See there!You get out from there,let's go!"
Link jumped out the window to the outside twilight.

The man screamed for a while before dieing slowly on the dirt rode. Kami smiled and looked up to Raziel he was about a head taller than she was, "nice swordsmanship...." she commented.

Mirabelle laid on her bed, reminencing on her past, thinking about when she had first seen Jason.
Flashback
Mirabelle heard the trumpet call, which could only mean one thing. The soldiers were returning! She ran out of her home, cheering with the rest of the croud. As the warriors walked past, she caught sight of one man, walking as proudly as the rest, but something about him caught her eye. She smiled, and marked him in her mind as a potential...

Thinking back, Mirabelle had to smile. She marked Jason Markham in her mind. She giggled, and went over to a small, locked box, which held a beautiful headpiece, which had belonged to her late grandmother. She smiled, blinked back tears, and put it on, dancing in front of the mirror. She enjoyed times like these, where she could relax. But looking over at Firex, she sighed, remembering her promise to avenge her pheonix's injuries. She would, but nnow was a time for peace.

When Jason awoke, he found that he felt much better. Still not recovered, but well enough to get out of bed and, leaning heavily on his staff, walk. He estimated it would be another two days before he was fully recovered physically, and the rest of the week to recover his flame powers. 'Note to self: Don't use the lifeforce transfer again unless it is truly dire.'

He considered that thought. Was the life of a phoenix a truly dire situation? 'Perhaps not, but Mirabelle's happiness is worth it all. What a love-struck fool I am.'

The love-struck fool hobbled his way to the stream in the growing dusk. He sat down on the stream bank, awaiting the coming of night, and the promise it brought.

[Delta-Pheonix]

"Six years of officers training plus another eight of actuall comabat in the navy gives power young girl". He turned to the Airomancer "You however seem to be a natural, what is your name?" he inquired.

She smiled before bowing, "Kami.....and yours?" she asked looking up at him and coming up from her bow she didn't like to brag and wanted to protest that there were others far better than she but she decided against it.

[Kali-chan]

Mirabelle slowly walked to the stream, humming. She settled down on a rock, and tapped Jason, smiling.

Jason looked over and acted surprised. "Well, fancy meeting you here. What brings you to this lovely location?"

He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close. "How is your phoenix? Is he well?"

[Delta-Pheonix]

Raziel returned the bow, "My I'm just a vagabond named Raziel Sanguine" he said with a wolfish grin.

Kami smiled, "I never expected that our paths would cross again where are you headed?" she was sort of hoping he would be going to the same place she was. Although she lived alone all her life she never really liked to be alone.

[Delta-Pheonix]

"Just a little water village to pick up a contract". Then suddenly an idea hit him, "Say your pretty good in a fight, why not join me?"

Kami blinked letting the question sink in, "Join you?" she finally said, "what do you mean?..." she asked obviously not getting his question.

[Kali-chan]

Mirabelle leaned in against Jason, smiling, and played the game.
I was walking along the stream when I saw you sitting; you looked lonely! she laughed.
Then she nodded, saying,
Yes, Firex will be all right after a night's rest. It was an aeromancer's arrow that injured his leg, you know... sadly.

[blackknight]

Jason's gaze narrowed as he stared out across the stream. "An aeromancer, eh? Bastards... Unfortunately, we must choose our battles carefully. While together we will form the strongest army the Firelands has ever seen, we still cannot risk spreading ourselves too thin. We have the Two Generals to depose, the hydromancers to crush for slaying Major Pendrik, the aeromancers to strike for injuring a phoenix, which is a terrible crime for any nation...The list goes on."

He sighed. "So much to do, and so little time to do it in. Peace will not be easy to secure. Many lives will be lost, and that weight on my shoulders may very well crush me before I reach my goals. Our goals."

He still reflected on the dream. If it looked at any time that the hourglass was Mirabelle's, he would have her removed from harm's way. If it was his own...well, there was nothing he could do about it. If his death was required to achieve his goals, then so be it. He would fight it tooth and nail, of course.

He glanced over at the wonderful woman at his side, the one woman who had ignited his soul like nothing before, not even the birth of his powers. He counted himself fortunate to have met her, and knew that if an early death was his fate, that at least he could die content. Looking into her eyes, he leaned in closer, and his lips brushed her own. "Beloved, you have made my life complete. I would have few regrets if I were to die this moment."

[Delta-Pheonix]

IC: Raziel grinned again, "Why as a mercanary of course, with the two of us we can take harder bountys worth twice as much cash!" he explained.

She thought this over for a few moments before looking to him, "I suppose I'll give it a try but once I start to dislike something or think something is suspicious I'm leaving..." she said sternly she didn't want any tricks.

[Delta-Pheonix]

Raziel frowned "Actually on second thought forget about it, I don't need to be weighed down with someone who'll give up when things get tough". He said lightly. "I bid you good bye Kami" he turned around and began to walk away.

[Kali-chan]

Mirabelle blushed slightly, and allowed him to kiss her, loving him with all her heart. She knew that neither of them would have regrets dying, as long as they had each other.

Kami frowned, "I didn't say that!" she snapped feeling frustrated, "i just don't want to be taken advantage of..." she said simply she didn't trust many, "you of all people should know you can't trust many these days...." she said.

Though he felt he could stay with Mirabelle like this forever, he knew that sooner or later they must return to camp, and tommorow they must continue their journey back to the Firelands. "We'll need to start moving again tommorow. We're still in enemy territory. Someone else will need to drive the cart with the wounded, though. I'm still not recovered enough."

[Delta-Pheonix]

Raziel luaghed as he walked off, "I may see you again some time, have fun!".

[Kali-chan]

No worries, Jason, I have enough strength to drive the cart. And this time, I will not allow hydromancers to attack us. Mirabelle said, proudly. She was a bit sad that this had not lasted a bit longer, but she understood Jason's logic.

Raziel yanked some sea water infront of him just in time to douse the flames, this man had extremly high offensive power, Raziel decided to play along and let himself be pushed back watching the Pyromancers form for any flaws.

Kami shrugged why would she wanna be a mercenary anyway she thought stubbornly as she walked down the trail to the water village.

((He wanted you to force the issue. Kami needed to grow a backbone, or some balls, whichever comes first.))

Jason laughed at Mirabelle's comment. "I'm going to hold you to that, Sergeant. Your captain is in no shape to drive off another assassination attempt."

Reaching for his staff, he hauled himself to his feet and offered a hand to his beloved. "Come. There is much for us to do together. I think a field promotion is in order, Lieutenant, don't you?"

~~Flashback~~

This Hydromancer was quite skilled. There were few who could resist his flames when he was truly serious. He was keeping his fury in check, for while the flames of rage would add to his power, the downside was a loss of objectivity. He would become too focused on destroying this one opponent, and a lesser Marine would slip past and slay the impromtu captain of the vessel. As if to puncuate this point, a Marine managed to emerge from the melee below and ascend the stairs with intent to sieze the wheel. His smoldering body, minus a head, toppled back down the stairs.

Jason's attention had shifted only slightly from his main opponent, but it was enough. The officer of the hydromancers was upon him, katana only centimeters from his face. Jason had caught the blade on the gold-claw-clutching-crystal-orb figure at the head of the staff. Enforced as it was by Earth magic, for it had been stolen from the Geomancers decades before by Jason's grandfather, the seemingly fragile figure stopped the katana's deadly arc. But now Jason was at a disadvantage. Though they were close, the Hydromancer he faced was stronger, and was slowly but surely pushing Jason back. Jason didn't have the leeway he needed to utilize his power, although neither did his opponent.

Mirabelle smiled and took the Captain's hand.
I would be honoured, she said. As they walked back to the camp, late night stragglers watched the Captain and Sargeant, soon to be Lieutenant, holding hands and gazing at each other.

Also, we don't have one for Darkness, but since our only Dark-wielder seems to be off in her own little world I suppose it's not a big deal. For completion's sake, I shall dub them Shadowmancers.))

Raziel was surprised at the strength of his staff, luckily for him the Pyromancer couldn't use his power at this range, then again nor could he. Raziel decided brute force was the only way to got now as he brought his knee into the young mans stomach ignring the pain as his armoured knee clashed agaisnt the officers Cuirass.

Kami decided that she couldn't keep on living alone she would definitely end up killed even if she was to proud to admit it. She caught up to Raziel finally, "hey...I'm sorry about that....is your offer still up or am I to late..." she asked trying not to sound pitiful.

[Delta-Pheonix]

Raziel turned around and smiled "Don't worry about it, I should apologise for forcing the decision on you, do you want to join me or not I won't hold you in resentment if you refuse". He replied with an apologetic tone he mentally chastised himself for his cruel behavour, "I may be a mercanary but I'm not a total scum bag" he thought to himself.

Kami smiled and nodded, "it's alright...but I realized..." she sighed, "I wont survive alone out here not with the war going on anyway.." she added hastily.

((Umbramancer works well enough, I guess. I just picked Shadowmancer because it rolls of my tongue more easily.

And yeah, Kami growing balls would make things rather uncomfortable around here.))

Jason (having somehow managed to avoid all of the trees) stopped outside of Mirabelle's tent and raised her hand to his lips. "Gute Nacht, meine Dame. Sleep well."

As she went inside he heard the snickers of the nearby soldiers. He turned a gaze that could have melted titanium on them, and they quickly dispersed, fearing for their lives. That accomplished, he retreated to his own tent, attempting to fall asleep. After tossing and turning for several hours, tortured thoughts racing through his mind, he finally succeeded.

~~Flashback~~

Jason gasped from the impact of knee into solar plexus. The blow, even through his armor, knocked the breath from his body and almost brought him to his knees. As he was slowly forced back, he remembered a very important lesson he had learned back as a recruit, a lesson which the drill sergeant had pounded into their skulls, quite literally.

~~Further Flashback~~

"You think honor means jack in battle?! HAH!! You pansies won't last two seconds if you think honor has a place in the thick of things." He singled out Jason. "You, come here. We're going to have a wrestling match. I'm going to show you a few techniques you can use in a real battle."

They squared off, then locked arms. Jason attempted to get the upper hand, though he knew it was likely useless. To his surprise, he actually began to force the sergeant down. So pleased with himself, he didn't notice the slight smile on the sergeant's face, and only noticed the rushing forehead when it smashed into his nose.

"And that, ladies, is how you should fight in a clinch."

His nose had healed, and Jason had graduated from boot, but he never forgot that excellent object lesson. He slammed his own head into his opponent's face, and felt the satisfying crunch of cartilage.

Raziel nodded, "Safety in numbers, besides i have got wind of a nice easy bounty, i wan't gonna take it but it should be a good one for you to cut you teeth into". he said pleasently

Flashback- Razeil staggered backwards suprised by the rather unethical counter attack, blood streamed down his nose and it was probably brocken, with his free hand Raziel took the time to relocate it with a jerk wincing in pain.
Readieng his sword he rushed the officer bringing th fne blade in low to cut the legs from underneath him.

Kami smiled this man at least had a sense of humor and he knew about survival and how to fight she knew they were going to make a good team, "so it's off to the water village then?"

Mirabelle lay in her bed and tried to get to sleep, thinking of her family and friends who did not have the pyromancer abilities that she had, thus had not been enlisted. When she finally got to sleep, her last image was of Jason.

((Sorry Milly, but I'm going to let you do the morning muster for the troops. Jason, being unwell, cannot lead. As such, I'm going to let you drive until we get back to the Firelands.))

~~Flashback~~

Jason jumped over the low-swung blade and prepared to bring his staff crashing down on the Hydromancer's skull. The ship had other plans, though. Just as he landed the damaged vessel ran aground, knocking most of the survivors of their feet, Jason among them.

The Water officer was not among that number. He raised his sword high above his head and was about to bring it down in an executioner's strike, when a bolt of flame flew out of nowhere and vaporized the fine steel.

Jason heard the battle horns, heard the sound for the Charge for Major Pendrick's force. It was the sweetest music he had ever heard. "Run little Hydromancer. I don't mind saying you beat me today, but you cannot win against the reinforcements. I grant you and your men your lives. Go in peace."

Grappling hooks stuck on the land-side bridge railing. "Quickly! Go!"

Flash back
Raziel lobbed the useless hilt at the pyromancer in frustration, which he dodged easily of course. "Were leaving" Raziel yelled to the remaining marines whom disengaged and jumped ship". Raziel gave an evil grin, "I supose we'll meet again, but there is one more thing i must do".
Raziel placed his hand on the deck adn fucosed, a vein popped in his temple and he gritted his teeth, suddenly great spires of ice tore through the ships hull, implaing men and destroying a large portion of the cargo.

Raziel leapt into the air and disapeared in a puff of water vapour.

Kami watched them go and sighed as she turned and went on down the path to the water village. The walk was about 20 minutes, as Kami approached the place she put the hood to her cloak on and noticed some guards standing near by.

Mirabelle woke up and realized that Jason was probably still not well from the previous day. She packed up her belongings, and took down her tent, calling out to the other soldiers.
Okay, everyone, we have a lot of distance to travel today! As soon as the bags are packed and loaded, I want all of those who are too weak to walk in the cart, I will drive!
Some soldiers protested to her, wondering where the captain was, but Mirabelle turned an icy look on them, and they cringed. She went over to Jason's tent, to see if he required any assistance.

Jason lay in his bedroll, aghast at what he was hearing.

What kind of sergeant said "Okay, everyone", as if it were a merchants guild meeting? He quivered in horror. 'How did she attain sergeant with that attitude?'

He crawled out of his roll, and began packing up as quickly as he could, which, to his dismay, still wasn't very fast. 'Note to self: Life/energy transfer has far too many side effects to be an efficient battle tool.'

When he heard Mirabelle appraoch the tent he spoke up. "Sergeant Mirabelle, could I speak to you for a moment?"

The use of her rank, after they had already agreed to drop it for the both of them, should instill a sense of seriousness in her.

~~Flashback~~

Of the few survivng Flame Knights, most were slain by the icy death that erupted through the decks. Jason cursed the Hydromancer. He had shown mercy, and this was how he was repayed? The bastard...

He stood, his body awash with pain. Stomach, legs, back, head - they all hurt, but he had orders to give. "All able-bodied men, rescue whatever supplies you can! Wounded, evacuate the ship!"

That done, he joined the supply team. They had to work fast, or the water flooding through the pierced hull would destroy the supplies that were not damaged.

Mirabelle stopped when she heard Jason address her by rank. She swallowed back a sob, as that could have a bad meaning...
Yes, Captain Markham? she said, using his rank as well, quivering in fear about what she thought might happen.

Jason sighed. "Mirabelle, how did you become a sergeant? You seem to lack most of the qualities that make a good sergeant. Let me explain.

The sergeant is the highest non-commisioned rank one can attain in the Fire Army. They are responsible for conveying the commanding officer's orders to the troops. They must be firm, and they must often be real bastards to the men. They will ride their men day and night, often finding "offense" in the most minute things. They must do this, because it drives the troops to be more efficient. The sergeant will make the troops hate him, because he truly loves them. He will lay down his life for the men, and as they fight more and more engagements together the men will realize this. The unit will become tighter than ever before, and will become a truly deadly fighting force. A CO can't do this, for they are in a completely seperate class from the non-coms."

He fixed her with a hard stare, like a snake hypnotizing a bird. "You are too soft with them. I heard when you gave the "order" to break camp and move out. I also heard the protests. When the sergeant is firm he commands obedience. Perhaps it's only a reluctance to break camp now, but what happens when there is a battle? If the troops have no respect for you, how can I pass my orders, through you, to them?"

Noting her trembling, noting the tears forming in her eyes, Jason never the less forced himself to stand firm, though his heart told him to comfort her. 'I must make her strong. I love her, and if I could remove her from my plan and send her someplace safe I would. I can't, though, for she is the last link in the chain of command for Pendrik's men.'

"Do you understand, Sergeant Mirabelle? Without disipline the army is nothing, and disipline begins at the lowest level, with privates obeying their corporals, who in turn obey their sergeants, who in turn obey the lieutenants, and so on and so forth up through the commisioned ranks. I cannot control everything below me directly. I must delegate, and as the most senior officer under me, my orders fall to you, and through you are dispensed to the troops."

((If you want to read a good book which pretty clearly defines the roll of troops, the chain of command, a the functions of each unit, read the original Starship Troopers. DO NOT just watch the movie, as the movie deviates greatly from the book and does not explain the military system as well.))

Raziel and Kami stood outside the village walls, the walls were fairly high to provide a solid defence and made out of a sandy white stone, on top of the wall archers pattrolled. "Well were here an Craftport, a lovley little seaside town and home of Chuckles the travelling fool".

Kami whistled in amazement at the high walls built so tall and proud she looked over at the two guards standing at the main doors, "how're we to get in?" she asked looking up to his head.

Mirabelle took a deep breath and looked Jason in the eye.
Ummm... Capt... Jason, I do try, but I... I am a healer, I don't understand how to be stern, what I've learned is that a healer must be petient and kindly to her petients. In answer to your question, I became a Sargeant because of my healing powers. I am sorry, maybe, I am not suitable to be a commanding Sargeant, but as a healer, my abilities surpass some here. she managed to say. She sniffed and asked him if he needed any help.

Jason dragged a hand across his face, trying to wipe away the frustration. "Beurocrats. Always the damn beurocrats."

He looked up at her. "You should have been placed in a mobile healing unit, not imbedded directly into a fighting unit."

He also knew he had his answer for how to protect Milly. "When we reach Fire I'll have you transfered into the first mobile healing unit we come across. Your talents will be of far better use there, and you will be safe." He almost bit his tongue, but the word still slipped out.

"You'll also find the chain of command is much more lax there, so you don't need to worry about bawling out the privates. Also, a minimum rank of First Lieutenant is required of any doctor working in one of those units, so any troops you grab will obey without question, so long as you are firm. As far as that goes, it's easier to be a liutenant than a sergeant."

He pushed himself to his feet, stumbled a bit, then righted himself. "I could use a supporting arm, if you're offering, my love."

Rayne was one of the 2 guards at the entrance when Kami and Raziel arrived. She approached them and asked, "Can I help you?"

Raziel nodded "Yes me and my little sister here are visiting a freind in town, plus a little sight seeing, may we pass" Raziel lied expertly.

Kami winced at the little sister part she had a thing about being called little and the sister part stung a little. She hadn't had family members for a long time. Kami simply did her best to ignore it and looked up at the guard with the most innocent look and nodded.

Rayne glanced back at the other guard, who nodded in response to her unasked question.
"Ok. You may pass. My shift is ending now, do you need assistance in fiinding your way around? It's a fairly large village," she offered politely.

Mirabelle bit her lip, worrying that in a healing unit, she wouldn't be able to protect Jason directly. Nonetheless, she held out her arm, and assisted Jason out of the tent, avoiding the eyes of the other soldiers, curious to find out why she looked so worried. As she walked, she thought back to when she had started in this unit, and the men had welcomed her with open arms, dazzled by her looks, and awed by her might when she fought... she showed no mercy on the battlefield, but of course, being a girl had it's letdowns. Every time she had killed an enemy, she had felt sick. But the one thing Mirabelle thought had gained minor respect from the soldiers was her calmness. To this day, she had never raised her voice on the Privates, instead giving them a trademark icy stare of hers. But now... she would be put into a healing unit, have more use, but not be happy. She almost thought of the soldiers in this unit as her family, spending most of her time around them... regardless of the problems with her gender. All in all, she snuck a gaze at Jason, knowing what he was doing was for her sake, but she would feel safer around him. She dared not speak up, however, for she was just a Sargeant, and he was a Captain.

Shinji was walking near the head of the village, a large sachel over his shoulder and a rather solomn look upon his face. As he passed near the gates, a framilliar voice caught his ear. Turning his head, he saw that it was indeed who he had thought it was, Sensei Rasiel.
Dropping his belongings out of a mixture of shock and excitement, he raced to the gates and embraced the man. He knew that his sensei didn't appreciate physical affection, but it had been so long since Shinji had seen him and he had missed him so.
Releasing him, he took a step back and gave a deep bow. "Sensei, it is good to have you home. Your student is greatful for your return."
Since Shinji was a boy, he had looked up to Rasiel in admiration. He knew that he was now a master wielder, but he would never dream of comparing his abilities with Rasiel's.

Kami followed her new partner in and she looked around she's never seen such a large city all her life she'd either lived in the small wind village or in the forest.

Raziel declined the offer, he suddenly heard a voice he thought he would never hear again. It was his self proclaimed protegé Shinji "Shinji It's great to see you old freind, and stop calling me Sensei!" he clapped the young man on the arm and turne to Kami, "Kami this is my old freind Shinji" he said wit ha grin.

Jason could feel Mirabelle's tenseness. "You have something on your mind. For a little bit, until we reach the cart and so long as we speak quietly, rank is no issue. Forget that I am a captain, as I will forget you are a sergeant. Tell me what upsets you so."

He had felt that a transfer to a healing unit would be the best option for her, where she could truly shine and rise quickly through the ranks of the medical corps. Instead, the impression he got from her was one of intense unwillingness and sadness. "I cannot bear to see you unhappy, my beloved. If there is some...problem with my plan speak your piece."

Kami bowed her head in greeting to the stranger who had approached them. Due to her several years of living alone she wasn't very social. When she brought her head up she eyed the boy wondering how old he was and why he was calling Raziel sensai.

I have known some of these men since basic training... I see them as family, and I know that as much as they tease me sometimes, they respect me, Mirabelle said, gesturing to the soldiers,
And Firex, he has grown close to Private Jestin, she added, pointing to a young Private, who was telling a story to the others, having finished packing,
And Firex would never leave me, but he would pine for the Private... but I will go if nessesary, Jason. she finished, pushing a stray lock of hair away from her face.

Jason felt as if he was being torn apart. His wish to make his beloved Mirabelle happy contested with his desire to keep her safe.

He had to admit, however, that if things were as she said, these men would do anything for her, despite their seeming reluctance to obey. While not as safe as in a medical unit, she was probably safer here than if she were released from service and sent home.

He sighed, then nodded. "Very well. You may remain here, under the condition that you will not try to be a hero. I need you alive, not elevated two ranks in death for exemplary service at cost of life."

They had reached the cart. Jason, with some help from the men already in, hoisted himself up into the back, then waved his staff to the troops. "Let's roll! The sooner we get home, the sooner you can be with your families and friends."

Rayne stood a bit apart from the trio. She hadn't been entirely sure about the newcomers.

"Shinji...you didn't tell me you had a Sensei," Rayne said to him.

Shinji smiled boyishly up at Raziel, still much shorter than he was, "Don't be so modest," he laughed, "I'm glad you're back. Now I can show you what I've learned since you left."
With great effort, he tore his eyes away from Raziel to look at Rayne, "Of course I had a Sensei," he replied a bit more pompusly than he had intended, "How else do you think I mastered so quickly? I had the best Sensei in the whole village," he said beaming with pride as he turned back to Raziel.
Shinji bowed in greeting to Kami. It wasn't much, but he was pulling his attention away from his master to greet the girl in an attempt to be polite.

Kami couldn't help but grin at the boy's excited attitude, they must've had some real good times together she did feel a little left out though. Shinji knew both of them and they both knew him while she only since yesterday knew Raziel. She showed no sign of it though and nodded her head to the boy as he bowed to her.

Rayne turned to Kami and introduced herself, "Hi. My name is Rayne. I hope you like our village." She smiled and tried her best to put away her shyness.

"It's a water village, whats not to like?" Raziel qustioned cheerfully.

Kami bowed as well, "thank you for allowing us to join I've never been to a water village before..." she said calming remembering not to mention that she was a wind element.

Shinji sttod a little more rigid, attempting to appear "regal" as he addressed Raziel with a proposition to spar, "Sensei," he said shyly, "Would you--spar with me?"
He was sure that he seemed quite childish at this point, but he was beyond caring. He knew he shouldn't be so careless infront of his own student, but Raziel was like the father that he had never been so lucky as to have. When he was banished, Shinji was devistated. He contimplated suicide, running from the village, and even mutiny for the sake of his master. However, he knew that one day Raziel would come back, wether he were welcomed or not, and they would be reunited. He was glad that he had waited and not acted rashly.

Mirabelle smiled and walked over to the cart. After making sure that all of he soldiers were ready, she signaled the horses to start moving, drawing the cart behind them. Firex squawked and flew above the unit.
