Since you never get to actually see these two fight in the series i was just wondering who you think would win?

LOL, you gave it like 30 minutes. Anyways, I think Flame wins. His powers make him a well trained mid-long range fighter. Maybe if it was hand to hand combat, Scar might get in some hits or cause some serious injury, but at the end of the day Flame can instantly incinerate him at will.

maybe your right, but if ed can dodge his attacks then Scar most deffinately can.....he is faster after all.

Scar has a power advantage because of his right arm, but Roy has an attacking range advantage because he is a mid- and long-range fighter. So I think the deciding factor would be the type of battlefield. If the two are battling in an open space, then Roy has a much greater chance of winning (especially if it's a field of grass). But if they're fighting in an enclosed space, then Scar has an advantage; walls and floors are very easy to explode.
I'd place my bets on Roy, though. Even if Scar does have the upper hand in an enclosed space, Roy is a very talented alchemist; I am quite sure the man is capable of staying away from walls and dodging earthquakes. On top of that, he has the ability to create a rapid fireworks display, which will keep Scar occupied at least part of the time.

Ling, his awesomeness alone would crush them.

That only worked because Flame had that flashback of killing a kid when he fought Ed (who was like 12 or 14 @ the time) and that made him hesitate. I doubt Scar is gonna trigger that kind of a flashback.

Long Range = Roy
Close Range = Scar
I would make my reply slighty longer but I am kind of weary now after the onslaught of other vs. threads in other forums sorry.

Flame. hands down. he's the better alchemist. he understands alchemy. as people have said, he can adapt if it's a tight field. No, Flame is not my fav. anime character... ok, he's high on the list, Scar's very low on the list until his death, then he moves up about 3 spots. Anyway, Flame would win.
Sorry for ranting.

Roy's range would own scar unless the battle started up close. Looking at the movie, we see that Roy's range of flame is several hundred yards.

I think both Roy Mustang and Scar both have their own set of talents like some of you said. Such as Roy being better with wide range combat and Scar who likes the up close and personal approach. I have to give my vote to Roy.

Yeah I have to go with the consensus. Roy Mustang would definitely win in the end. As was mentioned by others, he understands alchemy and has much more experience with it. His skills would overcome Scar eventually. That would've been a good battle to watch though since they're both confident, a**-kicking characters! :)

Had it not been raining during that one episode Roy and Scar could have battled it out. Well that was that then.

Mustang depending on conditions. I mean... if it rains... that'd be an issue right? I mean, he still might come up with something but water would make things more difficult.

I say Scar wins.

Mustang's long range policy might give him the edge but his flame might go *poof* if it rains....so scar in that situation can get to him & if he does...roy's skull will turn to oatmeal...but even in dry conditions, scar might still get mustang if he can somehow wittily manage to dodge Roy's flame...

I say Roy. He has incredible range in his attacks.

The Flame Alchemist is the superior fighter, not just in fighting abilities, but in tactics as well, I say Roy comes out on top.

If Scar took advantage of water, he could blow up a pipe or something and get Roy wet and then while Roy is looking like an idiot wondering what to do, Scar could beat him up with his big abs and then kill him. But Scar's explosion technique only works if he knows the chemical components of what he is about to blow up.
Roy could of been prepared beforehand and wear special clothing with a chemical component Scar isn't expecting and then kill him with a gun or something.

Probably Roy Mustang. It would not be an easy victory, nor a guaranteed one, but I think the likely outcome. Scar lacks long range attacks. Plus, Roy Mustang usually has a few troops nearby with guns. :P
