What are those masks that you often see in many gundam series, but only one character.
I'm sure it symbolizes something. Yzak from gunadm seed/destiny had a scar on his face but didn't wear a mask. I'm just looking for your 2 cents.

Most are homages to teh Char, who wore his iconic mask/helmet for his own practical reasons. (plot point spoilers) in the first Gundam series.

well, in Seed, Raww le Crewset(sp?) wore a mask so
he wouldn't look like the one man he didn't want to be... the man that he is a clone of, Muu's father
as for Yzak, he could have had his scar removed, but
he wanted to be reminded that he had to get revenge on Kira for giving him the scar, at the end of Seed, he gets it removed to symbolize that he has no reason to be mad at Kira anymore, he accepts Kira
hope that helps with Seed
Oh yeah, I've heard in Destiny, there's a character named Neo... something, and
he's actually Muu la Flaga, with no memory of his past, and he wears a mask... I don't know why...

Its just a tradition that the Gundam shows do. Like the same summons and chocobos is Final Fantasy.

Listen to this girl. She speaks truth. Most of them do have reasons for wearing their masks. Cronicle Asher wears his in Victory both to intimidate at certain times, but for the most part, he wears it as a sort of filter for dust particles and stuff (since he's a spacenoid).

Obvious homage to Char; Zechs Merquise from Gundam Wing is a fake identity. He wears a mask to hide his uber hot face. His real name is Milliardo Peacecraft from a pacifist country that was defeated by Oz. Milliardo creates Zechs to infiltrate Oz and be a part of the army that destroyed his nation. Plotwise why he joined his enemies doesn't seem very clear to be because he was Trieze's friend (unless it's another homage to Char where Char purposely befriended his enemy to later on kill him). However, Milliardo never killed Trieze as far as I remember.
Meh, not like Gundam Wing is one of the better Gundam series.
Zechs looks better without the mask. It's a sin for a guy as hot as him to be hiding his bishy beauty.

Carozzo (Iron Mask). "I wear this mask to put my emotions in check". Something like that. I loved that villian.

Well the official Gundam site says this:
"The mysterious commander of the Crossbone Vanguard forces. Iron Mask is actually Cecily's father Carozzo, a brilliant scientist who married into the Ronah family but was then abandoned by his wife Nadia. Hiding his shame and humiliation behind a metal mask, Carozzo turned himself into an artificially enhanced cyber-Newtype in order to help realize the ambitions of his father-in-law Meitzer Ronah. As Iron Mask, he possesses superhuman strength and mental powers, and a ruthless dedication to the Crossbone Vanguard's ideals."
One of the most cruel characters in Gundam, he created these "Bugs" that would target humans and blow them up.

Carozzo was the scariest of them all, he was downright ruthless

About Schwarz Bruder in G Gundam, its pretty clear near the end why he wears a mask. But its a spoiler, he is an exact copy of Kyoji made from Devil Gundam cells.

It was pretty obvious not even halfway through the series, I thought.

Yeah its very obvious, don't know why I had to add in the "near the end". But near the end is when its all explained of course.

The original protagonist wore one so he could do things with a bazooka at the end.

Well, I would have been specific as to the meta "given" reasons presented in the Gundam series's mask homages, but I haven't seen Wing or G (the latter I'd like to), and Seed's a blur.

Wing: Milliardo was from a nation that was mauled and destroyed, so he pulled a Char and changed his identity to sneak into the enemy army...which he did nothing in.
G: See above for spoilers, or watch the show. XD
SEED: Rau Le Creuset was a clone of Al Da Flaga, and wished to distance himself from Da Flaga. He wore the mask to do so and took pills to avoid rapid aging.

Char wore his mask to cover up a scar.
Other characters wear it because the writers are too lame to come up with an original character.
True story.

Char wore his mask to cover up a scar.
Your not being serious right?-_-;
Although some of his allies assumed he wore a mask because of burn scars or something.
He got his scar when he got stabbed in the head by Amuro at the end of Mobile Suit Gundam, thats when he stopped wearing a mask.
"If it wasn't for this mask I'd be dead right now"

^Could he mean the novelized Char scar? Of which was self inflicted (though publically said it was recieved from a duel with Garma, since fencing > internetz in the UC future? =P )
