new to cosplay

Im going to a convention later this year and wanted to get started on my outfit, im going to be Chii from Chobits, the only thing is: Do i have to make outfit patterns myself or is there a way i can get them or something? I've looked everywhere but they never say anything about any patterns just that people have made the costumes...any reply would be helpful :)

one problem, the cosplay section doesnt get used a lot. try ebay or something. and if you can, contact fellow cosplayers and get their opinions. i suggest a regular school uniform, a long wig, and the ports on the side of her head. look on ebay or something for the ports. but if you can find a cosplay shop, then itll be easy.

i wish i knew where an anime store outside of NYC is in New Jersey:'(
