Since stuff like Animaniacs, Darkwing Duck, Tale Spin and whatnot are on DVD now, I was thinking of all the old school openings that I used to love. What were amongst some of your guys favorites?

Pepper Ann FTW!! (http://youtube.com/watch?v=SN18eFxsLkI)

My all-time favorite would have to be the opening to Star Blazers. That's been my favorite since the first time I saw the show. It's huge. Way better in English than in Japanese, too.

Very highly regarded OPs:
Jonny Quest - Gotta love it. That beat reaches out of the TV set, slaps you upside the head and screams "This is an ACTION AND ADVENTURE SHOW!"
Dangermouse - "He's the greatest... "
Flintstones/Jetsons - Awesome horn sections, big tunes.
Mysterious Cities Of Gold - I just always loved the opening of the English version, for reasons I can't quite explain. It fits so well.
Inspector Gadget - Once this is stuck in your head, it will never leave.
Underdog - "...the cry goes out both far and near for Underdog..."
Freakazoid - Anyone who's heard it knows why.

I like DuckTales, Scrooge McDuck and his nephews Hue, Dewey and Louie with cool-as-hell "Indiana Jones"-style adventure. Millionaire miser Scrooge and crew traveled the globe in search of lost treasures, usually foiled at every turn by archenemies the Beagle Boys or the sorceress Magica de Spell. Winnie The Pooh is FTW.

Y'know, I totally forgot about Pepper Ann for a while. I remember watching it when I was little.
It's sad because the only thing we don't have in common now is that she's in 7th, I'm in 8th. Friends even look the same, too.

I've had the Inspector Gadget theme song stuck in my head for weeks, to the point where I actually said, "Go Go Gadget Topdeck" in a game of Magic.

Barely any love for Pinky and the Brain, though? That opening song definitely fit the cartoony evil theme quite well. I still remember the lyrics after last hearing it many years ago.

Did you mimic Don Adams' voice when you did it? That's very important. ^_^ Same thing holds true if you want to use the old "Would you believe..." or "Missed it by THAT much" memes from Get Smart.

Personally, I'm more apt to use Seigfried's "Starker! Zis is KAOS! Ve do not [insert silly noise] in KAOS!"

I was seriously wondering if anyone else even remembered that show. I think it was a brilliant piece of animation. The skit with Alexander the "Pretty Good, but not Great" still cracks me up. I remember liking the theme, but I can't bring the tune to mind.

Thanks to this thread, I've had the Pinky And The Brain theme stuck in my head all morning long. >_<

You should hear the OP dubbed to spanish. I have it on mp3 format if you want it. I kinda feel that even the OP song in spanish is superior to the version in english.

--

OMG!! I totally forgot about shows like Top Cat and Biker Mice from Mars!!! I also loved the OP to Dexter's Lab. Sounds great in spanish.

They just don't make cartoons the same way nowadays. *sigh*

Does anyone remember this 80's cartoon that was an adventure series animated in the US. I think it was a Hanna-Barbera show but I'm not fully sure. I remember it was something about reruniting several pieces of jewels to save the world which is slowly flooding or something. I think they flew in a floating boat or something. Sadly they cancelled the show before you got to see the end. :( It had awesome animation too.
Awesome series, hope they bring it to DVD someday.

I love that song so darned much... *Sigh* Silly ol' Winnie the Pooh!! Me and Toon Disney have a date at 5:00a... (or was that Garfield?)

That's followed by Chip N' Dale, and then, Garfield (maybe). Although, I really liked the TaleSpin theme and DuckTales. I think I really liked the Alvin/Chipmunks theme, but I can't really remember... Oh, and does Sesame Street count?

I'd also like to add that most of the shows on Playhouse Disney and Noggin have quality theme songs...

Does dubbed Pokemon count? 'Cause that's about as Americanized as it can get so it doesn't technically count as an anime. Same with YGO.

Well, if it comes down to lyrics, I don't think any cartoon can beat this classic:

Muddy Mudskipper Theme

Who's the greatest mudskipper of them all?
Who can skip through the mud with the greatest of ease?
What kind of wonderful guy?
Who can crawl like a dog without scraping his knees?
Who's got segmented eyes?
It's Muddy Mudskipper!
