View Full Version : 2006 ANF Awards (Nominations/Discussion Thread)

Smith
December 9th, 2006, 09:22 PM
I would like to open discussion about an idea I have which is inspired by video game awards here in the past. What I want to do this time is to expand it to the Anime, Manga, and include the Video Game section(and more). If any one of you want to host the Yaoi/Yuri, Music, movies, or other, do say so, post/reserve it and/or send me a PM.

I would like to hear nominations for categories(action, drama, shounen, shoooters, fighters, RPGS,Rap/hipHop, country, books, artbooks, hentai, etc) and ideas are welcome.

I would like to ask yea or nay on:
Voting starts on December 14th before midnight, and voting ends at midnight EST December 21st. Winners are announced before midnight on December 22nd. A tiebreaker poll or polls will be set the following week if there are ties for first place.

(Voting/Scoring)
my ideas for voting/scoring
- Vote for one favorite media
- Submit 3 of your favorite, in no particular order(may cause a few fun tiebreakers)
- A point system for top 3 choices or top 5 choices

Either way, left, right, up, or down, say yea to the idea, say nay to the idea, throw in your idea for anything regarding the 2006 ANF awards.
If voting does begin on the 14th, this discussion would end 5pm wednesday December 13th.

I think I'll set up an "Ideon Zerg Rush." Where we all nominate Ideon for every category.

Results will be posted. Otherwise what would be the point? Funny, I remeber it was Arsinol who did the VG awards one year with an interesting scoring system.
I'll list category ideas tomorrow. That way if I am missing any categories, someone can help me out and ensure a nicely varied process.

What do you all think of submitting 3 votes for each category, with no scoring system except with 1 point each vote? I'm favoring this atm. This would make scoring easier and really, I am sure a lot of us will have a hard time just picking 3 for some categories.

Edit/Add: Idea: With the opening post of each thread for the awards, I will list suggested categories and an overall category for that specific media. This way, no one is forced to vote for a category they do not wish to vote for, and they can propose a new category as an alternative as they vote and submit their 3 votes for that category. I want to keep it flexible and collective.

Ideas for categories:
Anime-
-overall-action-drama-OVA-comedy-Mecha-
Manga- mostly the same as anime

Video Games-
- Action/Adventure
-Shmups
-FPS/shooters
-RPGs/SRPGS
-Console ("AN's favorite console, and/or AN's favorite new console"

Now, I know this is not enough for suggested categories for starters. So I would like some help and ideas to help make the suggested and main categories be. I still will keep the option to nominate a new category while voting and voting for that category open.

...vote for "best posters in AN"? anybody? or "best spam of 2006".

I think something like that would go in the Polls Battles and Games section, much like the AN Awards hosted by Master Terence(?) last summer(?).

KenshinBebop, if you want, you can handle the music awards, set it up whenever you want before midnight EST on thursday December 14th. This goes the same for all awards threads that anyone wants to take upon. What it will take for the host of the award thread is a lot(if there are a lot of votes, and I'm assuming the Anime, Videogame, Offtopic, and a few other award threads will get a lot of votes) of stat taking, taking down everybody's votes and tallying the totals. It will be nice if we can have 2-3 people verify each total before they are posted.

Edit/Add: I also am thinking that some categories will only need one vote per person, such as "Favorite New Console". We're not gonna vote for our 3 favorite new consoles. Categories like that need to have its voting clear-cut. Other categories that have 3 votes will have tiebreakers the following week, if there are ties. I think without a point system, there is a chance for ties, and we'lll just have polls or vote threads for these.

When you have votes for series by category, are you limiting the viotes to series released/licensed in 2006? Or are the votes for all series of all time? You might want to specify things like that.

Here's a couple of category ideas I liked; use or ignore them as you see fit:

- Most Destined To Become A Classic
- Most Likely To Generalte EVA-Level Fanboy Obsession
- Most Welcome License Announcement Of An Older Series (i.e.: Yawara)
- Most Unexpeced License Announcement (for titles you can't believe GOT licensed)
- Best Sleeper Title (shows that nobody's heard about, but everyone likes when they see it)
- Most Significant Title (i.e.: titles that are actually up to level of serious literature, deseve serious academic analysis, etc.- they're more than just entertainment titles)

I was thinking 2006, but we should go with specifics like you stated. Most categories are probably going to be for media released domestically in 2006. Since anyone can propose a category and submit 3 votes for it as you vote, that will allow for categories of "all time" or media not secifically released in the year 2006.

Keep the categories coming, everybobdy. I will be writing down as many as I can if I can't write them all down, for a guideline of suggested ctaegories to vote for. Keep em' comin'.

You start the thread in the music section. Each voting thread will be in its proper forum. Anime voting thread will be in the anime forum, Videogame voting thread in the VG forum, and so on.

I think compiling a starter set of categories with some starter nominees will work. For example:

Best New Anime for 2006
-Hare+Guu
-Scrapped Princess
-Full Metal Alchemist
/end example/

I think I will need to be flexible with release dates. FMA maybe started being released in 2005. Ergo Proxy is starting its run now, and won't finish till later next year..

I suggest listing your ideas for categories here. It is cool if you would rather PM each other and set it up before thursday. We have a few days to think up categories, so think about it a little while you're doing your everyday routines, you might come up with something interesting.

So far it looks like Anime, Manga, Video Games, Music, and probably Movies and a PBG thread will have voting/award threads. If anyone wants to handle or help out with the anime, manga, vg, or movie thread, or propose a new one, like maybe fanart/fanfiction or Yaoi/Yuri, please do feel free to say it. I would like to do some award threads, but I do not wish to be spread too thin, since I am planning on ending voting and then tallying and posting the results within 24 hours(December 21-22).

FMA isn't a 2006 title. Originally broadcast in Japan in 2003, then in the US in 2004, according to ANN. You've got posts in the FMA forum dated 2005 where people say they just finished it.

You can submit a vote and say the category is simply "favorite anime" and submit 1, 2 or 3 votes.

I'm starting to wonder if the open categories thing might turn out to be a snowball that rolls into an avalanche? It is possible we all will end up needing to trim the categories to 5-10-15 per media. Kenshin alone has 15 categories up there.

Edit/Add: To avoid confusion, suggesting categories is still open until the offical voting starts on thursday.

How about you make it like this:

Favorite Anime Of All Time:

Cowboy Bebop
Dragon Ball Z
Evangelion
Gundam (Original Recipe)
Inuyasha
Rurouni Kenshin
Sailor Moon.

Why them? Because it seems like they get the most fan replies.

For Favorite Series: (Anything licensed 2004-2006...since most of these wounded up on US tv anyway)

Bleach
Eureka 7
Naruto
Shin Chan
Trinity Blood

One thing I think you should also make clear: In the voting, no "half points" awarded for people who can't make up their minds. That way, the people scoring don't have to worry about people who say things like "Both FMA and Bleach! They're both so good I can't choose!"

Nope. The bomb is going to go off if you don't cut either the red or blue wire. You have to pick one.

I'm gonna sit down after dinner and write up, copy down stuff and put something up in a post, something of a preview. I will start my 3(maybe4) threads at or just before midnight tomorrow. Kenshin starting his Music awards tonight is fine. If anyone happens to wish to add a thread to a subforum, it should be fine. Tomorrow night is not a deadline, it's just that I wanted to run the threads through the weekend and week and then close up and announce results just before everybody's off for the holidays.

No 1/2 votes, of course. If the category allows for 3 votes(all votes would be equally valued at 1 point each) someone can vote for Naruto, Bleach, and HxH.

Godessofanime, I'm assuming you want the Yaoi/Yuri thread? Chikyuu has some nice categories a few posts up. Do not worry about rushing to start the thread by tomorrow, take your time, but do at least run it a few days before the polls close next week.

Voting is gonna start tomorrow at or before midnight EST.

It's going to be more of a "vote for whatever falls under this category". This way no one is restricted to a set number of nominees, and can name their nominee/vote. This could potentially catasrophic, because Prons could plan a seriously massive "Ideon Zerg Rush" and have enough people vote Ideon in to win every category in every forum, even the video game forum. Now we all know Prons would grin from ear to ear if that were to happen.. But if there are votes for something like "Donald Duck" or even "Ideon Zerg Rush"(if it is in the wrong category), these will not count.

I'm thinking a maximum of 3 votes will be allowed for all categories. 3 votes is not mandatory, and one vote for a category will count.

Voting on whatever falls under the category. This allows for anyone to vote for whatever they wish to vote for, instead of restricting votes to only 3-5 media.

You can help, take one of the 4 threads I'm starting (Anime, Manga, Videogame, Other Media), or help with statstics over the next week. I plan to start taking down stats/votes sometime early next week, maybe sunday, so I don't have so much to count on thursday when the polls/votes close.
