I just picked up their CD yesterday. It's awesome. The speed at which the guitarist plays is insane. I never knew that such guitar speeds were possible.
This is a really good speed metal CD. I highly suggest it to anyone who's a rock fan or is looking for something new.

If it is Nuno Bettencourt fast then they cheat.

yeah, Herman Li is pretty awesome. He's the band's only redeeming quality, really. Although a lot of people say he's sloppy at live shows. All in all, they're an alright band that's ok for a listen every now and again. They could use a little more thought in their lyrics, but I don't think they take themselves too seriously.

I've been to one of their shows and I didn't think he was that sloppy. But then again, it's hard to tell sometimes when they are going that insanely fast and you are getting shoved around by people in a nearby mosh pit.
Anyways, been a pretty big Dragonforce fan since I heard "Fury of the Storm" on one of the YTMND soundtracks. Love their music.

My friend showed me a video and a song of theirs. It was freaking awesome. I never thought fingers could move that fast.

This band is terrible. The singer blows, and Herman Li is overrated. Once you listened to one song, you've heard it all.
If you want to listen to power/progressive metal, go back to the roots.

Meh. You want speed: Cannibal Corpse, Nile, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Napalm Death, Berzerker, Carcass, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Discordance Axis, Dillinger Escape Plan, Kataklysm, etc.
Haro!

Don't like much of what I've heard of dragonforce. But if its guitar skill you want I'd say Rodrigo y Gabriela is a good place to look, but different genre.

I liked Naplam Death before 2004. Berzerker is <3.

I've only heard Theough the Fire and Flames or something...it was...interesting.
I've been meaning to hear more, but never got around to it.

Sonata Arctica is amazing. I love "Peace Maker."
However, you people should listen to Demons and Wizards, Helloween, and Rhapsody. Great start.

I can't say I enjoy Peace Maker, but yeah they're awesome. Also, Demons And Wizards sucks, it's the only CD that I've ever thrown away. Helloween is pretty good. Rhapsody could be really awesome, but I can't stand that guys vocals (Luca Turilli s great though). Also, you can't go wrong with some Blind Guardian.

Most of Demons and Wizards material blows. But their covers are likable. Especially when they did "White Room" by Cream.
I need to check Blind Guardian out. They've been on my "list" lately.

Up to this point, Angra is the best progressive power metal I've heard, at least when talking about the new (2000 and onwards) lineup.
I kinda like Dragonforce, but as has already been mentioned in this thread, their songs are pretty much all alike. And being able to play guitar really, really fast doesn't instantly make them a good band in my book.
Rhapsody get bonus points for epicness (epicy?), but I'd hardly call them one of my favorites.
Last time I checked, Iron Maiden wasn't power metal, which seems to be the topic of this discussion. At any rate, I never cared for them.
Sonata Arctica... I really liked them at first, then I happened to hear a live recording. I haven't listened to a single track since then. I don't know if the singer is always that bad or if he was having a bad day, but I'm not really interested in finding out.

Suki I was really thinking of getting D&W's, but I haven't heard any ofthere work. You know anywhere where I can sample them for free, and legally?

Yeah >_< I know what you mean. I think that the singer had the flu during that performance, however. I'd check out the For The Sake Of Revenge CD. He's improved since then.

I found out about them in May, and I think they're awesome! :ssj:
For the record, there are 2 guitarists, Herman Li and Sam Totman. Also, which album? They actually have a few, but I'm pretty sure you mean "Inhuman Rampage"

Love 'em. My favorite songs from them are The Cage, Fullmoon, Picturing the Past, and the Vodka/Hava Nagila singalong from their live shows

IMHO, the best power metal is Blind Guardian; they are consistent in live shows, and have pretty much established the blue print for the years to come.

Suki, I did actually mean what I said. I never said it to look good, I meant it.
If I were to get caught, it'd cost me $500,000, so it'd be cheaper to just buy the album and hope for the best, lol.
Which is why I never DL any songs for free.

Anyways, what you said previously is one of AN's code words. So I assumed you knew that. :D
