I personally found this movie to be entertaining. It's about a group of young tourists, hence the movie title, in search fun, sun, and adventure. Well, no point of giving a detailed synopsis, so I can just chop it up into the regular formula: disaster, drunken stupidity, disorientation, fight for survival.
Some critics call it "Hostel for teens." Well, whatever you may call it, the film is entertaining at most. Not bad, not awesome, but entertaining.
If you're looking for some time to kill, go see this movie. I wouldn't recommend spending full price for it, so catch it at the matinee.
Rurouni's next stop, Brazil :P

Haven't seen it announced in Mexico yet. Is it some Adam Sandler type comedy about springbreakers?
Heh, my sister lives in a city where those dumb kids go an get wasted and do the things that are illegal in the US. I've heard stories a plenty of dumb springbreakers having risky sex: reusing condoms with different people anyone?
The stupidity of some people...

Well, my sister lives in a small city near Cancun, so you can imagine the stoopid springbreaker stereotype happening every year. She told me they literally destroyed the hotel she worked in. I can only imagine doing what.
Spring Break is actually quite nice in Mexico City: No people, no traffic.
Finally a chance for the capitalino to enjoy tourism of their own city. Great time to visit the great restaurants in the Centro Historico.

I like how they think it's clever by calling it "Turistas" instead of "Tourists"

Ouch, 15 of 65 reviews positive. Quite low, even for horror standards.

^ Actually, having seen the trailer, that's much higher praise than I was expecting this film to receive.
When I saw the trailer, I thought, "Wow. Let's take US xenophobia about all things latin-American and remake Hostel around that concept. Why didn't they just drop the pretense and set the movie in Cancun, so that we could REALLY demonize Mexico?"
Anyone remember a Turkish film a while back called "Valley Of The Wolves: Iraq"? Remember how folks in the US were horrified at the portrayal of Americans in that film? Yeah, well - if Turistas had anything near the production quality of VotW:I, then I'm sure Brazilians would be just as offended. Fortunately, even the trailer for Turistas screams "cheesefest", so they'll probably just have a good laugh at Hollywood's expense.

Yeah, they can go use stock footage from Traffic that makes the most expensive and exclusive (as in Beverly Hills esque) neighborhoods in Mexico City look like some shoddy, dangerous neighborhood.
Reading the premise, yeah Turistas really is a Hostel wannabe, just crappy. Meh, they could just make a real documentary about the Brazilian slave trade and it would actually be scarier than this crapfest of a film.. I just might see just to laugh at how bad it is.

Wow. So much animosity:|
Well, like I said, the movie is do able. It isn't bad, but ain't good either. Like the title of the thread said, it's a good movie to pass the time.
At any rate, I did see some Hostel vibes coming off of the film. For the most part many of the people died because they were to dadgumn stupid in the first place. When your only mode of trasnportation in a foreign country breaks down, you don't wander off, you stay where you are. Take it a step back for a bit, they shouldn't have taken such a crappy bus driver in the first place. Make sure that sucker was licensed. Bottom line, a little common sense goes a long way.
Still going to Brazil, though? You with me, Prons?

As most of the topic people mentioned, I think it's a pretty bad movie and not worth my time. I've got enough movies to see as it is, since I rarely get to the theaters, if ever, anymore.
Got better things to download, too. D:

LOL, you are very innocent my friend. Well trained bus drivers with liscenses in a 3rd world country?
There has been a huge array of deadly bus crashes in Mexico in 2006 (I've lost count cuse they have been so many!!) because the driver was drunk and drove off a cliff and/or the bus was in such poor conditions, only an idiot wouldn't sue the Bus company for it. Mabe the SCT now that Felipe has started to take office will enforce a real safety code for buses. Ironically, most of the bus deaths involved groups of people going to religious events for the weekend. Some way to get closer to the lord.
And yes, buses is mostly the only way you can travel as a tourist in Brazil sadly. I doubt they have car rentals. If Mexico doesn't have a car rental industry, I very much doubt Brazil would have one. Seems like the idea of building a thing called a TRAIN doesn't ring inside of the peanut brain of president Lula. I hate that guy.

Well, seeing where you're from, you would know more about these things than I.
At any rate, they should have used more discretion by knowing about the quality of transportation before hand. There are warnings about the things you should look for when going to a foreign country, right? Couldn't flight or bike (motorcycle/moped) rental be plausible?

It really depends on which company you go to if you travel by bus to other cities in Mexico.
I scarcely travel outside of Mexico City (mostly because I don't have the money for it and don't have a lot of relatives in other cities to visit anyways); but I have travelled to other cities by buses.
There is a company called Estrella Blanca which is a very responsible and good quality company. They have tv's in the buses and they even give you a coke. I haven't heard of irresponsible drivers driving off cliffs or the machine falling off a cliff because the breaks are 30 years old. It's a reliable company I'd suggest anyone to try if they want to visit cities that are close to Mexico City (Cuernavaca, Taxco, etc..) if they are going here as tourists and have a weekend to spare (Taxco is totally worth it if you love top-notch jewelry and awesome arquitecture). The prices aren't bad really.
I think the trip to Acapulco from MC only costs 40 dollars. However the trip is pretty gruelsome from my sister's experience. She told me it took the bus like 16 hours to get there. Or was it 10 hours? If you drive mediumly fast in a car on the toll highway you could get there in 6 hours. Maybe even 4 hours if you're going over 100 Km/h. I think she told me they crossed through Zihuatanejo which is why the trip took so long. A trip on a plane on the other hand would probably only take 2 hours and a half.
However, since there is technically no strict standards of out of town bus safety rules, the safety of buses can range from very good to I ain't getting on that thing. I swear, I've seen real buses (and actually travelled once or twice) that were just as a bad as the one in that episode of the Simpsons where they go to that american history camp and the seats literally fell off. At least the trips I've been on such dangerous buses were just 15 minute trips on a traffic-ridden highway during daylight.
With the whole presidential elections and post elections scandals going on for the past year (which have kept me quite entertained I must say), these kinds of incidents seem to have passed under the radar. Hopefully the congress may finally stop bickering at eachother in stoopid hatewars and start writing safety laws.
I really don't know why there isn't a car rental industr. It's perfectly possible because there isn't much competition against slow buses and expensive planes, but so far no company has been smart enough to get into it. Heinz would earn millions if they took the risk. Heh, bikes. They are a great travelling alternative, but people here tend to steal things a lot. Mexico City isn't a very safe city to ride a bike in. The sidewalks aren't designed for bike travel so you have to compete for your life against the ravenous drivers and the roads.. well; let's just sa I still have a huge scar on my right knee for taking a bad fall from doing a bad turn going downwards on my street. And in my city's standards it's a pretty flat street, it's only a 30° angle. I dare not try my luck on a virtually 90° angle street. Bike travel in Mexico City should become the new extreme sport; you could easily kill yourself doing it. Add in unpainted speedbumps located in illogical places for more extremely dangerous fun!
I'd seriously love to see a Jackass skit of the guys doing a 90° angle street filled with speedbumps in an adjusted 3 wheel bike to transport tamales. Dangerous fun would ensue!!!
Haro!

sailor I'm more of a Cristobal Colon guy, bus company of the ghetto.. Though Estrella Roja (wait or is Blanca well point is its a star) is good as its the only one that leaves from the airport ^_^.
Also I think there is atleast a little bit of a car rental industry as my dad went to at least 3 different companies in his last stay in Puebla (Hertz was one of them). Though I think its rarer in DF as there is a higher crime rate.. your rental would so get jacked in DF.
Oh and as to the topic, you'd probably have to pay me to watch it.
