Pictures aren't necessary, are they? Assuming that they are not, I rarely drink, and then not much. I prefer a single malt scotch. Anything else is just booze, but single malt is a drink. That's only for a drink at home, where the price isn't outrageous, of course. When I'm out, I'll take either a real ale, or some kind of vodka mixed drink.

I almost forgot. My single malt is drunk neat, and not over ice. Anything else is blasphemous.

Scotch on the rocks is an American thing. Generally in this country, the traditional alcoholic drinks are served at room temperature. I find that chilling a good single malt just reduces the intensity of the flavour. I can't recall ever seeing anyone drink scotch on the rocks in real life. It's kind of like a social taboo.

I've chilled JD before, it was, the same.

I just don't like Ice because it waters it down and also stops the drinking process, lol.

But JD is Bourbon, and not Scotch. But then again it's apparently a "sipping" Whisky. I agree with Father Leary on "sipping" Whisky's (Dennis Leary, he's an Irish/American stand up who's really funny).

Bourbon is OK too. I definitely prefer JD to any of the other American whisky brands that I've tried. I don't think I'd go for JD in preference to my favourites, but I wouldn't turn it down. Wikipedia says that JD is actually a Tennessee Whiskey, which differs from Bourbon in that it is filtered through maple charcoal, to give it a distinctive flavour. Apparently the grain mash is the same for both Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey though.

I agree with Father Leary on "sipping" Whisky's (Dennis Leary, he's an Irish/American stand up who's really funny).
Dennis Leary? Yeah, pretty funny. I liked that act better when Bill Hicks did it though. What did Leary have to say about sippin' whisky? The only thing I remember was him talking about how no matter how much you love whisky, you always make that "whisky face" after the first sip from a fresh glass.

When you have the back problems that I do and take the meds that I take for it then no matter what you drink you're going to feel it fast. However I'm a fan of very chilled Crown Royal or a nice merlot aged at least 5-7 years, while expensive a bottle of Chateau Petrus circa early 1990's is probably the best drink you can have.

You do get "hard cider" which contains alcohol, yes. Outside America, the term cider almost always means "hard cider". In America, I'm told that normal "apple cider" isn't fermented, and doesn't contain alcohol.

Oh, it's too hard for me to decide on just one favorite... I like a small variety of liquors and beers. Haven't yet been able to get into the whole wine thing, but it's not completely off of the table.

As far as liquors go, I like vodka, gin, coconut rum and whiskey (Tennesee, Kentucky, Bourbon), in that order. Screwdrivers and White Russians are probably my favorite tasting mixed drink, but I'll mix anything with Coke (since it's disgusting anyway) or Dr. Pepper. My favorite brands of vodka are Stolichnaya (Russian) and Svedka (Swedish), but I'm also pretty partial to this label of Polish vodka, which I can't spell for the life of me. I think Gin and the coconut rum are about the only ones I can drink straight but more often than not, they'll get mixed into some coke or something to go down smoother. Whiskey is always mixed and a rare event in itself. Usually, I'll drink that if there's nothing else.

I'll second Desslock on Long Island Ice Teas being one of the better cocktail drinks around. They're difficult to make correctly without practice but when you can get them right, they're fantastic.

I'm also an avid beer drinker. I prefer German, Dutch, and Canadian Beers as my top tier, but occasionally, I'll open a Foster's or a Newcastle (but I can't drink them warm like you English-folk). Miller (Genuine Draft or High Life) is probably my favorite American beer, but that's not saying too much.

Those two that you've mentioned are actually beers which are usually consumed chilled even in England. It is only real ale that has to be served at room temperature. Real Ale is the term for traditionally brewed beer which is served without the aid of CO2 pressurisation. It's beer the way it has been made for centuries, unlike the more modern lagers and other beers served from a pressurised keg. Real Ale is always hand-pumped, and there are an incredible range of different varieties, with distinct flavours.

I visted in March, so it was still chilly outside and I remember them being a little warmer than I usually like them, so they may have still tasted a little warm for me. Newcastle Brown Ale even has a little reactive patch on the label that tells you when the bottle is sufficiently chilled to drink. Fosters should be served ICE COLD. If those two drinks aren't served sufficiently chilled, then you're at the hands of a poor host/bartender.

You can also get ice-cold Guinness on draft in a lot of bars. In fact, at any decent bar, you should find a wide selection of bottled beers served ice cold. There's the stereotype about British 'warm beer', but the truth is that it only applies to certain types of beer, and there are plenty that should be served chilled, or even ice-cold.

Manhattans w/Jim, JD over rocks, Long Islands(really depends on who's making it). I'm with sazae when it comes to chilled Crown as well, also a pretty big fan of red headed $luts which is a tasty Crown recipe everyone should try.

That whole reply makes no sense what so ever.

If I was to bombed to read the words, how could I type into an image search "Jack Daniels"? As that'd be exactly what i'd be typing with or without pictures.

And then you say "I haven't had anything I liked, so i'll say Absinthe". Why say Absinthe?

Is it because it's the one that you disliked the least?

Is it because it's the only drink you've had?

Is it because you like the name?

Why?

That's very possible that I had a bad bartender; to be honest, I remember having Caledonia in Edingburgh, but the others might have been in London or Newcastle (or somewhere in between). Being on vacation and in a pissier mood than I probably should have been, I drank it.

You can also get ice-cold Guinness on draft in a lot of bars. In fact, at any decent bar, you should find a wide selection of bottled beers served ice cold. I don't like Guiness in the States and I completely forgot to try it with the UK and Ireland's climate, which is supposed to make it delicious.

Is it because it's the one that you disliked the least?

My guess is on this one.

From low to high:

I like dark kinds of ale, March or Porter or real Guinness, not that bottled or canned ink that they call so (it's disgusting). Unfortunately it's very rare and can be found only at special places (and very expensive).

As a red wine, it's definitely Shiraz, American or Australian, more expensive the better. Zinfandel is very good also - all varieties - red, rose and white. From white, it is Chardonnay or Gewürztraminer. Again, all that is not from France or Europe, exclude Italian Chianti. South American wines became better lately.

Irish Cream and Benedictine are the best liqueurs in the world.

Vodka should be Absolute or Finland. Not Russian - I've seen how they make it, rotten potatoes and another thing, that was impossible to recognize what it was, it's not for me.

Jamaica Rum is interesting (6+ years). Cognac (Brandy) and Whiskey I don't like.

Though, I always ready to try something new and good.

For me personally I think beers all taste like crap, I've tried a few and I couldn't stand any, just the smell alone is enough to turn me away from most of them. As for other drinks I found Mike's hard lemonade to be pretty good since I enjoy lemonade to begin with and the alcohol just makes it a little more sour. I tried a pina colata (I believe thats correctly spelled, minus the ~ for the n) and found it quite good, I also enjoy cognac (room temp, no ice, only) it is however a tad strong, especially since I rarely drink. I also tried sake once at a sushi bar, I thought it tasted ok, my cousin was with me, and he said it was horrible, however I did have a cold, and his taste in drinks are almost completely opposite of mine, I guess I'll try it again when I'm not sick to see if it's something I enjoy.

I have a hard time liking the taste of any sort of alcholic drink. All of them, of course, have these bitter undertones from the alcohol in it, and it's just so nasty to me. I actually tried one drink today called a White Russian, and it was good because you coudln't taste the alcohol.

I am going to say I like Barcardis (I've only tried one kind...can't remember which) and Bud Select. I drink Bud Select the most, but it's dang hard because it just tastes like utter crap.

* Leffe Blond
* various English beers (IPAs are generally nice)
* Tiger Beer (which is lager)
* Archers & lemonade (by the pint)
* White Russians
* various kinds of red wines (what kind? not cheap!)

I used to drink a lot of vodka when I was in university. But it kills me now. You don't want details. So I don't drink that anymore. White Russians aren't so bad; I think it must be the milk content. Only minor death.

I'm not that much of a fan of whiskey. But... ever tried pouring it into the bottom half of a lady, instead of the top half? That's fun. (things you learn from playing the wrong sort of videogames...).

Leffe is great stuff, but it's very rich and you wouldn't want to drink too much of it. It's normally served in half measures (but it's quite strong, so that evens out). Same with the fruit-based beers like Fruli, or whatever. Drink one, or two, appreciate, and move onto another drink.

I'm not too fond of the popular lagers, though I'll drink them if served very cold. I don't really like overly wheaty beers like Amstel or Warsteiner, either.

Well, like trying to describe the taste of anything it's pretty much impossible, only thing I can tell you is it's Brandy that's left to age in wood barrels (the type of wood escapes me at the moment, might be oak(?)) that are burnt on the inside. So I guess the best way I can describe it is a "harsh smokey flavor", which even when I read it just sounds rediculous. My advise is if your curious visit a decent restaraunt, or sports bar and order a glass, it'll probably run you about $6 and you'll only get about 1/3 the amount of what's shown in the picture. Just remember it's pretty strong and is supposed to be warmed in your hand, smelled, then sipped, to be enjoyed the "correct way", at least that's what I've always been told.

Are you sure Ten is a woman? Because from the way he/she worded that, it sounded more like he/she was a guy IMO.
Woo! At last! I get join in with having an AN nickname!

I'm not a guy, btw. And I'm already taken.

On topic: This is a great time of year. So much alcohol in food!! Rum truffles, chocolate liquers, duck pate with orange and grand marnier, rich fruit cakes laced with alcohol, and you pour brandy onto Christmas puddings and set it on fire!

Actually, I like setting food on fire the most.

It's how I do most of my cooking. (i.e. flaming boiled rice, chargrilled stir fry, etc)

 Imagine with how much booze mexicans drink and add the festivity factor of 12 culturally accepted nights in a row to organize parties called "Posadas" (aka an excuse to get drunk under the curtain of being a christian festivity).

I've alread been invited to two Posadas this year. I'm gonna get so wasted:

Moonshine from my local brewery, Abbeydale. Newcastle Brown's a firm favourite too, though. And I'll have Tetleys just for the ease of downing on a Monday night. As well as it being a pound a pint at my local on Mondays. :D

As far as lagers go, I'd plump for Bavaria. I acquired a taste for it in Holland recently.

I just drink beer, so my choices are: Guinness, Murphy's Red, Paulaner.

P.S. Becks is horse-piss.
