Alright, Sailor Moon used to be so big and everything that you couldn't go to an anime site without seeing it and I personally want to know what happened to it lol. You can barely find Sailor Moon anymore and if you do its gunna cost you two arms and a leg to get it....... honestly I think that if I get enough ppl to say they want Sailor Moon here that we might get it, so if your a fellow lover as I am please post.

Toei has pulled back the distribution rights to all the series that were previously available.

That is so stupid, why is it that you can still get it someplaces and I thought the creators name was Naoko Takeuchi?

Toei is the Japanese animation studio that animated and produced Sailor Moon.

My 2 small denomination coins of preference.
Sailor moon never did all that well especially when compared to the phenomanon it was expected to be. After a short while the various companies stopped trying to push it. It dissapeared from tv and so there was no way for them to sell the various merchandise. That put a limit on the number of people attracted to the series. So the number of fans who would feel inclined to post was also limited and eventually they said everything they wanted to say.

It did great on TV, well enough to warrent Cartoon Network ponying up for 2 more seasons but the 3rd and 4th didn't do all that great. Because of fan demand they released uncut subbed episodes of seasons 1-4 but once again fans demand something that they never pay for. I own them but I'm in a minority even among Sailor Moon fans.

But it still came down to issues with Toei. Toei refused to renew the rights (possibly because of issues with Naoko Takeuchi, but who knows?) and ADV and Geneon couldn't do anything about it.
I didn't have the money for the sets when they came out, and by the time I could have spared the money they were no longer available (or nearly impossible to find).

There's something in what Ken-Ohki is saying. Sailor Moon is a pretty cool series to watch on TV every now and again, but it's nothing that I'd really consider purchasing. It just doesn't seem to me to have that degree of re-watchability.

I have the same problem that HitokiriShadow had, that was like the first thing that got me into anime and I used to be basically obsessed with it. I think I may write who ever that is and see what happens but if anyone has a batter idea I'm way open for ideas.

If you're talking about getting the English version of the Sailor Moon anime, then yes, your going to have a hard time finding it. On the other hand, you can get the Japanese version of it relatively easily by getting fansubs online. The Sailor Moon manga is easier to find if you go to the right places such as specialty book shops, and especially online. Unfortunately, both the anime and manga have been discontinued domestically.

It's Toei's fault they ruin everything when it comes to anime in America..coughSlamDunkcough

Well, the dub crashed Sailor Moon. Trust me, I would have pulled it back too after the onslaught Dic did with it.

I just wish they would freakin' release it again in special box sets. I'm sick of bootlegs.

You can still by it on some sites used but you have to pay top dollar for them. Luckily I own all of the legit releases.

Would you really want to import at R2 prices? DVDs are priced much higher in Japan, usually with a lower episode count too. Sailor Moon is a long series, so it would really hurt your finances to buy all of it on R2.

Hmm, You got a point. I would rather have them specialized over here, but was jsut thinking of it always being available if that were to happen, because SM is getting extinct in the states...I need money fast.

We can always hope that TOEI anime will be licensed again at some point in the future by a company willing to treat them right. Licenses do expire, unless they are renewed. I can imagine the day might come when TOEI will be willing to accept a lower price for Sailor Moon, and someone can make a profit from selling cheap thinpacks. Of course, Sailor Moon is not the only TOEI anime for which I dream of cheap thinpacks. :D

Yea, they have alot of great series that would be great for thinpacks, but as far as it goes, I would totally love the Sailor moon ones by them first. I honestly wouldn't mind having them give the anime to ADV or someone. ADV IMO does a pretty nice job with their dubbing and all. I doubt anything will happen at all though...but I can dream ^^;.

I wouldn't mind if it was ADV either. Their recent dubs are as good as anything else in the industry, and there's always the option to not watch them. I don't really care that much about extras, so an ADV thinpack would suit me fine.
Even a sub-only thinpack would suit me, but that won't happen.

Yes, chances are I would only watch the subs anyways. In most ways, I don't recall ever seeing them pull any problems with a dub. They did Azumanga Daioh, so they would have enough female voice actresses to pull it off either way.
It has been a little while now, so it would be pretty nice if one of the good companies out there tried talking it over with Naoko and Toei, and see if they can settle this. Over this amount of time, I would think at least some stress between them SHOULD have cooled off and all.
As for extras, yea, I don't need them. They are fine, but not necessary to win me over. Whether it be now or ten years from now, I would HOPE someone could talk some sense into them and re-release it again for us over here.
