DEMON212
November 28th, 2006, 07:02 PM
I don't mean DEMON212, Prons Amuro, Deathsycthe and the likes. I mean nicknames of those.
Why the hell do we do it?
Are we that lazy that we have to give a nickname of a nickname?
I'm never ever called DEMON212, it's always Demon/DEMON/demon.
And hey, I do it myself. I usually use the first part of a name, or if it's all one long name about half of it.
What the hell is wrong with us?
Does anyone here ever call anyone online by there full name?
superplough
November 28th, 2006, 07:10 PM
no, i never do. ever.
people sometimes refer to me as "super" which just sounds weird, i'd prefer "plough" if they're gonna shorten it
The Million Dollar Prons
November 28th, 2006, 07:10 PM
Well, honestly the Amuro part of my nickname is just there as a tribute to the greatest anime known to man. 1979's Mobile Suit Gundam. There will never be an anime in the same leauge, or even the same sport as Mobile Suit Gundam, some people like Soluzar tend to think the AN useer Amuro (IGN Vault member) and I (PronsAmuro) are the same person.
Therefore it's perfectly acceptable that people call me Prons.
superplough
November 28th, 2006, 07:12 PM
the way yours is spelt it looks like "Amuro" is a surname and "Prons" is a first name, and in real life you generally dont call people by both names
kenshinbebop
November 28th, 2006, 07:13 PM
The only thing I've seen people call me around here is Kenshin, or kenshinbebop.
On other places I have various nicknaems though.(Don't use the smae name for everything...)
KatayokuのTenshi
November 28th, 2006, 07:14 PM
I've been called Kata before. Why do we do it? Maybe because it goes against the grain. You wouldn't call some one Given Name Middle Name(s) [where applicaple] Family Name. Maybe it is an off shoot of that.

God I'm a slow typer
Ketaru
November 28th, 2006, 07:15 PM
Not at AN, but people on the MMO I play (where I also call myself "Ketaru") just call me "Ket". Why are the last 3 letter so painful to type out? I don't know. Personally, I always call people by the full name they give to themselves. Though, I make exception for people that call themselves things like "Pooooooooon" or "Zoeabhff"

I knew you were different. Which is exactly why I shorten your name to Prons instead of Amuro, to avoid confusion. But I may call Amuro Am, lol.

Hey, I call you Ken :P
Well Ket ;) I'd say your full name, that one's not all that long.
Haro!
November 28th, 2006, 07:23 PM
People call me Haro. Without the "!". does that count? And I think its weird when people IM me and call me "haro" or "Haro!" it scares the s*** out of me for some reason.
Lord Timaeus
November 28th, 2006, 07:29 PM
Well, calling me a "lord" would just make many people want to gag, so I'd say it's understandable.
Danju
November 28th, 2006, 07:35 PM
You're thinking about it too much.
Reidar
November 28th, 2006, 07:41 PM
Abiding by a username's specific grammatical structure portrays formality, which usually isn't the disposition set by a messageboard.
miko hanyou
November 28th, 2006, 07:42 PM
I know everyone say miko because it short and simple. I like it but i wish some people can add '-chan' at the end of it. Miko-chan :P
hiei_kurama27
November 28th, 2006, 07:45 PM
Most people have been calling me 'hiei' which is cool. I dont think there are any others, except for an even shorter version of my real name by at most 2 people.
Lord Dagoth
November 28th, 2006, 07:45 PM
people usually just say Dagoth when talking about me.
p.s.- in before "oh look Demon made a thread"
Takumi Fujiwara
November 28th, 2006, 08:10 PM
I usually get called Takumi which is fine, luckily no one has ever Tokyo Poped my name and called me Tak, I don't think I've ever been called Takumi Fujiwara, which is ok cause it's long, and I'm lazy too so I understand. Generally speaking when I refer to someone I copy and paste their name so I avoid mispelling their name and looking like a jackass. ;)
Suki
November 28th, 2006, 08:14 PM
I think it's odd people calling me by my username. I prefer my real name actually.
VidelCoolGirl
November 28th, 2006, 08:14 PM
I guess on AN, I get called Videl. Not so much as I'm so much like her, just because it's easier to write. Everywhere else, it's Ka-San. Not in real life, but on the net.
Kagura
November 28th, 2006, 08:16 PM
I am a member of another site and I go by Inuyasha Fan there. But I have some people calling me IF. It is alot easier than my long name I use there. I dont have a nickname here so far yet.
lucky4life
November 28th, 2006, 08:31 PM
I almost always use Lucky4life when I sign up for things so most people just shorten it to "lucky"...I have no problem with it...I like it a lot.
I do tend to shorten other people's names though if I'm familiar with them.
Japhyl

Let's see...
I really don't do Super Formal titles... i.e. "Lord" Kuroishi, "master" terrence (2 e's?), "Leader" Desslock.. I'll accept a Mr. or a Mlle or junk like that if the accompanying name is gnarly... Ha! You kids and your slang... Accompanying has a nasty taste... I think it's real, though.
Um, numbers...yeah...*Cough* Just my opinion (FACT), but MOST usernames with numbers are smelly. There may be one or two exceptions... *Cough* Midorko87 *Cough* Sorry, it's a damn good year...don't blame me 'cause most of you people were born before or afterwards...
Then, there are those usernames that sound/look so much cuter with the Shortening.
And, of course, occasionally, I come across a truly buttholish name... Depending on how I feel about the person, I may/may not rename he/she/it. I always give wonderful nicks. Sometimes, I assign certain persons nicks or whatnot just to mess with 'em. It's Entertaining, ESPECIALLY if they ***** about it.
Now, let's look at your username, Thread-Starter... DEMON212...Indeed. MAYBE, that'd work if you were in Hell with 211 identical demons, BUT you're not, are you? 'Course, more than a few have likened AN and Its members to Hell... *Cough* Point Being, you should change your username to Ramone. But, you have to pronounce it right... you know, with the Spanish Roll? Wait, is Ramone Spanish or Italiano? Meh, close enough. Yeah...it's Dashing!! Of course, if you don't like Ramone, you can be Mon. You'll need Marley hair, though.

What about what I call you?
Shiroiyuki
November 28th, 2006, 09:46 PM
Well, I've gotten 'Shiro' (I hate that), 'Shiroi' (this one is...eh okay I guess), and 'Yuki' (which I prefer if you are going to shorten my handle at all.) I don't mind people calling me by my full 'title' (Shiroiyuki), but since it is long usually it is shortened a bit.
I've called people by 'nicknames' before. Prons Amuro as 'Prons', Uh...MagicianCamille as 'MC', and 'Camille', and Leader Desslock as 'Dess', 'Desslock', or 'Dessy'.
^_^ there are others but that is what comes to mind at the moment.

What about what I call you?
Hmm... What are you talkin' abo... Oh! You mean Assistant Black? You Son of a Goose, what do you think?!!
Hey! Didn't I make-up Shiro that one time? Oh well, BUT don't blame me when we start getting "Heroine" addicts around here? It's so Stupid, it's Brilliant!!
DazzleKitty
November 28th, 2006, 10:13 PM
It probably doesn't count, but some people call me Dazzle.
Tiiba
November 28th, 2006, 10:39 PM
You may call me "Boss".
(I really like saying that.)
Love~Belldandy
November 28th, 2006, 11:13 PM
1st time when i joined AN, ppl start calling me Love <_<
i find it weird though...
although only some, like 1 or 2 out of 50 will fully typed my nickname Love~Belldandy... forgot who already.. -_-;
i like ppl calling me BeLL, and i like that name.. :)
Ken-Ohki
November 28th, 2006, 11:19 PM
People don't always want to write out someone's entire name, especially with names like *~Godzilla854x~* or some crazy junk like that. Even with shorter names we don't always wanna check, now was that Demon guy a 212 or a 315? before typing down a response.
I know for some people's handles they have nice short names but even a short name like Ken-Ohki I get shortened down to Ken from time to time and I don't mind. We're all lazy and don't wanna have to remember where that darn - is all the time.
SDAnimeFan
November 28th, 2006, 11:23 PM
Just good old SD for me.
Alice Catherine
November 29th, 2006, 03:44 AM
I really don't mind. On other forums, I'm called the following:
When I USED to be LadySpiritra on Gaia, it was either "Lady" "LS" "Spiritra-sama" or "Sparkie".
Then I changed it to Alice Catherine Meridian, and some of my old friends started calling me by my real first name, which is Katie. They totally stopped calling me LadySpiritra or any of the forms of that.
People that I've made as friends nowadays just shorten to "Alice" or "ACM" or "McGonagall" on the HP since my avi looks like her so much.
People on Beyond the Endless Skies, a dead Last Exile board, called me "Lady" or "LD" for Lady Delphine.
People here just call me Alice, with the occasional Catherine added on.
People on Charlie Bone Online call me Sparkie.

I guess on AN, I get called Videl. Not so much as I'm so much like her, just because it's easier to write. Everywhere else, it's Ka-San. Not in real life, but on the net.
You mean it's Videl and not Video :naughty:
My name is pretty long so I'm usually stuck with getting called The Saz, you know like a Japanese Fonz.
Sendo Takeshi
November 29th, 2006, 07:10 AM
I used to be called 'DS'. But, then the Nintendo DS came out and that stopped. DAMN YOU NINTENDO!!!!
Now I'm either referred to as 'D-Scythe', 'Scythe' or 'Death'.
I want to be called 'puddin' one day. But not by a dude.
sailornyanko
November 29th, 2006, 07:13 AM
I might of made my username sailortinnyanko, but I'm lazy and just left it as sailornyanko.
Sometimes people refer to me as Yank-o which is a bit annoying. ¬¬
I could use my real name as my username cuse I like it (I detest my middle name though), but that wouldn't be a homage to my favorite female anime character ever.
SabakuKuniGaara
November 29th, 2006, 09:52 AM
I think it's understandable why most people on AN prefer to call me "Saba" or "Sabaku". :|
GreatNekoKoneko
November 29th, 2006, 11:09 AM
...due to the long-ness of my name, lazy bastards just call me GNK.
CrossboneGundam
November 29th, 2006, 11:14 AM
Why the hell do we do it?
The same question could be asked of your making this thread.
People are lazy and don't want to type more than necessary.

DEMON212
November 29th, 2006, 02:43 PM
Crossbone Dagoth beat you to it. Which BTW Dagoth, lol.
But Crossbone and everyone else who complains about me posting. Several simple things. It's not your forum it's a general forum that anyone can use, you complaining won't shut me up, if anything it will add to my *******ness of actually enjoying pissing people off, meaning i'll just post more to **** you off intentionally. So either apply to be a mod, make up some **** and ban me, or STFU!
Suki, if you want us to call you by your real name, I will oblige :) However I do not know your real name so for now, I have to call you Suki.
Midoriko87. 87 is a fine year indeed, I was born then. But I added the 212 simply because when setting up my Live account, it had taken the guy ages, so when he wanted me to see if it worked, I was "DEMON" or "onlynamethatwasnttaken" on everything, second was to long, so I just added "212" to "DEMON".
I hate numbered names, but "212", there was something about it which didn't piss me off, so I just said "**** it" and added "212".
Stafal-chan
November 29th, 2006, 05:38 PM
^_^ i believe most people here just get rid of the -chan part  ...on my other site i have a buncha weird nicknames
Tidusauron12
November 29th, 2006, 05:41 PM
It's always Tidusauron12. Even in real life.
DEMON212
November 29th, 2006, 05:46 PM
Just wondering.
Sauron as in.
http://www.freewebs.com/lotr1ringtorulethemall/sauron.jpg???
BTW Good point Okhi (called Kenshin Ken, so you're Okhi :P), it's why I hate numbered names. Especially when it's "Shadow95678987654356787654".
Soluzar
November 29th, 2006, 05:47 PM
I'd assume that most people know my nickname by now. Even if it wasn't in my sig. That's a real-life nickname, too... although not as many people call me that anymore in real life. If you're English, it should be obvious why I get called that.

Hell no. :x
"A'k but, yes but, 'k but, k yes but, no wait but kkkkkkk...."
That won't get unstuck from my head for a while now....sad.
Just look at my real name. If you don't get it from that, then I'll tell you.
That's a neat pun. Quite fitting....and now I actually know why. XP
As for my name, I am Magami. Not Megami, but I actually don't really care about the occasional typo, due to the fact that I was originally intending on calling myself goddess anyway, but in my blissful ignorance of n00b Japan worshipper I happen to mispell my own name. This one, thankfully, is still a Japanese title, meaning "god truth" (as seen in the clan of Clamp's X, the only time I've ever come across the name in an anime/manga work.) I rather like it, a bit less generic than the former. And of course, that name's stuck. All forums I'm registered to now have, in the least "Ma" in the title, the few that I still post on....

Actually the crumbling part was added for a far more obscure reason. The short answer is that I needed my nickname to be two words, so that a particular reference would work.

Maybe I've just gotten uses to reading your sig but seeing 'Richard Taylor the Biscuit of AnimeNation forums' just wouldn't work as well as crumbling biscuit.

I put it like that so that it has the same rhythm as the favourite opening line of the character in my avatar.
"Tatewaki Kuno, the Blue Thunder of Furuinkan High School".
So it needed an extra word to sound right, and crumbling seemed to go with biscuits, somehow. :D
Wanna get real scary? I once introduced myself to someone in real life as Ken-Ohki without thinking.
Sometimes when I'm talking in real life to someone who knows me on the forum, I will make reference to myself as Soluzar, but then it has been my online name since 1997, so it is a part of me, now. If someone were to shout out "Soluzar!" across a crowded room, I'd automatically respond.

Pretty much half the chat thread population has been known to call me Kuro-chan. This actually stemmed from a running gag about myself roleplaying as a female many, many times.
Gibb
November 30th, 2006, 03:25 PM
people have called me "Gibb" for probably 8 years now. My online name used to be "Gibb Boy" back when I played Quake2 and Tribes online quite a bit. I recently (around 2 years ago) shortened it to just "Gibb", since that's what everybody called me anyway. I've had a few variations by close friends, including "Gibby" (very common), "gib" (a lazy shortening of an already short word, which I dont like because a "gib" is a chunk of flesh in FPS games), and the incredibly rare and weird "Gibbachu".

In Disgaea 2, Nippon Ichi Software America somehow took one of the characters "Akutare" and called him "Axel". What's more unusual about this is that the game actually says "AKUTARE" in English letters in a few parts of the game. When the characters say the name (in Japanese) it sounds like Awk Tar. I have no idea how NISA got Axel out of that, but whatever >__<

Yeah because Rich Teas don't crumble, they just disintergrate when you dip the ****ers, lol. Which is why you should be called "****ing one dip" lol.
Love Peter Kay, he's my bro (spitting image).
I didn't get it, mainly because I was to busy thinking "where do I know that name from?". Doubt you live in Sunderland, do you?
Holy Knight

I'm occasionally reffered to as "HK", especially in chat channels. It has a nice ring to it, so I like it.
Vaikyuko
November 30th, 2006, 06:16 PM
Here I'm always called Treize or to a much lesser extent, Ryousanki King. Treize because the X is kind of pointless to type in shorthand "conversation", and RK because of my harpy obsession. For the most part, I use the usernames Lord Vega or Vega Vaikyuko, and those usually get shortened to LV or just Vega. No problem there.

I didn't get it, mainly because I was to busy thinking "where do I know that name from?". Doubt you live in Sunderland, do you?
Never been there in my life mate. Nor do I recall meeting anyone from there. I dare say that there's just some other Richard Taylor around your neck of the woods. I've never been nearly that far north.
^ You're probably thinking of the head of Weta Workshop Richard Taylor.
I'd also assume this is true. In fact, it's a very common name. I think that the average person probably meets at least two people with this name in his life.

Pretty much half the chat thread population has been known to call me Kuro-chan. This actually stemmed from a running gag about myself roleplaying as a female many, many times.
*resolves to call you Kuro-chan from now on*

I put it like that so that it has the same rhythm as the favourite opening line of the character in my avatar.
"Tatewaki Kuno, the Blue Thunder of Furuinkan High School".
So it needed an extra word to sound right, and crumbling seemed to go with biscuits, somehow. :D
Could of just said 'White Biscuit'....

For some reason I can't quite understand, that name really fails to appeal on any level.

I didn't follow up, does that count as behaving?
As to the topic, I have a new online nickname. It is "*****". A girl that I have class with just calls me that over AIM. She never says it in person, and its a good thing cause I'd probably get turned on by it... Oh the girl is hot and pinay so I let her get away with it.
