View Full Version : Decided To Invest In Bleach

The only anime series I ever invested in , that had a large amount of episodes was DragonBall Z. After that I decided not to buy another anime series with an episode count over 100( especially one that is still counting). When I first heard about bleach, I really wanted to check it out, but didn't feel like downloading 60+ episodes of an anime that is nowhere near being finished. When I saw the episodes that aired on Adult Swim, I knew I was going to enjoy this, and wanted to collect the DVD's when the come out. then I heard about the 40+ Filler episodes, and quickly changed my mind. I was afraid that this could be another Inuyasha. Inuyasha was a good anime at first, but started to drag horrobly. So I decided to just watch this on Adult Swim.

Today I was at Best Buy and couldn't help but stare at the volume 1 disc. I knew I has taking a chance buying a tv series that could go on for ever,(even drag out)but couldn't resist. I hope I don't end up disappointed in this shounen anime that started off great.

Honestly? I think it's going to be another Inuyasha.

Both Bleach and Inuyasha started out well. That is to say, not everyone likes them, not everyone thinks they are great anime, but they both had a fanbase who loved the early episodes.

Both of them started to go into filler hell while the manga remained strong, or at least as strong as it ever had been. Inuyasha got cancelled, and I can see the same thing happening to Bleach.

In a way though, it's a lot more open in Bleach than it is in Inuyasha. The whole plot line is basically a gang fighting off Hollows/ghosts/whathaveyou. Inuyasha just got annoying due to Inuyasha/Kagome/Kikyo triangle.

But then again I like the whole ghost busting thing in Bleach too, so I'm sort of prejudiced. But man I hope it doesn't become DBZ with ghosts.

Yeah, I like Bleach a hell of a lot more than I do Inuyasha, so I'm a bit biased. I don't think it will turn into another Naruto or InuYasha, but it could just as well. Any anime thats all actiony like that tends to hit America hard as far as fandom goes.

But Bleach at this rate I think will stay strong. I mean, if they stop with the fillers soon.

The filler in IY wasn't all that bad, there was like 40 eps filler throughout the entire series, and the biggest block of consecutive filler was like 14 eps around the time when movie 2 was released. Besides, it's rather hard to differentiate the filler from canon when Takahashi herself rights the canon manga in a way that half of it fills like filler itself.

With Bleach, the earlier, small arcs of filler (ie with Don Konoji, King Kon) are enjoyable, and the big ongoing one with the Bounto right now isn't even all that bad. Certainly not as bad the Naruto filler right now. Bleach is definitely still going strong, and once the anime gets back to canon material, even more so. I think the dvd's are worth buying (I'll be doing so at least; and kudos to Viz for using the R2 dvd covers!)

I'm actually waiting for them to do either like they did with Naruto, and release a box set of like the first few episodes, or just wait for the SS arc DVD's to come out, since that's the only part really I would want on DVD.

Yeah but I'm impatient.Plus I'm going to support this publisher as I like their treatment of the show.
Anyone know if you miss out on anything by getting the thin pack as opposed to getting the individual disks when they release or vice versa? What I meant is are the extras the same on both versions.Just speculating on a thin pack release not saying they have one out or have plans for one.

I'm never one for Extras anyway, so I don't mind. Unless they had all the Shinigami Cup Golden's. That would be awesome to watch all in a row.

I just bought the first volume also, and even though Bleach really doesn't get amazing until around episode 15, this dvd release is still an historic event in Bleach history. We still get episode 1 which is awesome, and episode 4 has that cute cockatiel lol
Buying all of the episodes (except the filler) will show support for this great anime. :)

btw volume 1 came with 6 Bleach stickers, a cool postcard thing with the dvd artwork of Ichigo, and the special features are just a couple concept drawings, some manga tutorial thing, and the "clean" 'life is like a boat' ending.
the best part imo is the fact that you get the english and the japanese version on one disc
and i like the stickers too

I'll wait until there's a box edition.

I'm just going to wait for the boxsets, like I always do. They released season boxsets for Inuyasha, so I don't see why they can't do the same for Bleach as well. Of course, I know it won't be any time soon...

How many episodes come into box sets? I never bought one due to most being $100.

Assuming Viz will release boxsets by seasons, each boxset would contain around 26 episodes. But we still don't know for sure.
