Ok guys theres something wrong with my ipod, sometimes when i go to a song, for some reason it stops and goes black and shows the apple picture and then turns off after awhile. I went to the apple stores and i keep telling them somethings wrong but they wouldnt exchange it, i even lied about that it has a hard time connecting with the computer lol but now there is this one song that makes it mess up and just turns off and shows that apple thing. If just want a new ipod so that i dont have that stupid problem anymore do you guys have any idea what i can do? The apple people said something about that if the hardware fails, then they would replace it, is my hardware failing? lol

You don'e need lol after every sentence for the love of God.

Anyway, Yeah, Ipods sucks, and it if restarting doesnt work, (Hold Menu+Play) then I'm not sure. If you have warranty, send it in, and get them to get you a new one.

I got no problem with mine, if I ever do, at least I didn't pay for it, my dad gave me his old one when he got a 60gb one.

iPods are just faulty, I'm on my sixth or seventh replacement for my 40gb. Fortunately, they upgraded me to a color one last time, and they gave me a free new 6mo. warranty. As they should. Great product while they last, though...they just never last much over a month.

OP, your problem seems to be the same one I had. Make a call to your local Genius Bar and schedule an appointment and they'll get it squared away as soon as you want to come in.

Yeah really. Typically so long as you talk to someone ate the genius bar chances are they just replace it. I took one there and they replaced it on the spot no questions asked. They just saw that it wasnt working said "ah your ipod doesn't work... sign here and here's your replacement" and I was on my merry way.

You guys and your iPod hating.
You either don't know how to treat them correctly or have a faulty one.
Mine is over 1 year and a half old and it still works fine.

Did yuo check the apple webstie?

But when i went to an apple store, they looked at it. Then when they didnt see anything wrong, they said they arent replacing it. So yea i got this song that makes it freeze all the time, so you guys think they will replace it?

^ Does the unit freeze when that one song is removed?

My guess is "no", in which case I'd be inclined to say that the unit is fine, but there a problem with the file itself. In that case:

1) Where did you get that one song? Did you get that one song through iTunes? If not, then Apple's not going to help you.
2) Does that one song screw anything else up? Any other player have trouble with it?
3) Can you do smoe sort of conversion on that one song? Something like... I dunno, MP3 -> WAV, then from that WAV file back to an MP3? If so, then try that. Does it clear up the problem? Your original file might just have an encoding error that causes your iPod to crash. Reencoding the file might fix that problem.

^ If the problem is being caused by an encoding glitch in the file, then swapping the unit won't fix the problem. A new unit will hit the same glitch, right? In order to make sure that switching the unit WILL fix the problem, you need to do some testing to rule out problems in the file.

So - where did you get the file? Does the unit freeze when that song is removed? Where did you get the song? Does the song screw anything else up? Have you tried reencoding the song?

Hmm i tried reencodint the song and it still does it. but anyways i just want a brand new ipod x) because i have a scratch on mines lol

by the way how do i copy the songs on my ipod to a diff computer with itunes?

Well if you bought it from iTunes, you can sync the song from one computer with another (provided of course you authorize it and it takes up one of your 5 authorized computers per song). Or you can just do it the usual way and copy the file on to your iPod (provided of course disk use is enabled), and then move that copy on to the other computer.

I just continued to think about it and well if just that one song is what kills your ipod, they won't replace it. But really it weirds me out that a particular song would do that. There is this problem where if you disconnect your ipod when a song or data is transferred, in which all your music shows on your ipod but in fact it isn't (if you go into iTunes and look at your ipod and there is an exclamation next to a song(s)). However the freezing isn't a typical response as it usually just skips over a missing song. Anyway, one more question regarding this song, does it play on itunes without a problem?

Crappy? Mine works fine. I mean how the hell can an ipod be crappy? I mean all mine does is play back music... does your iriver play music back better than my ipod? How? Does it make the music sound better?

Yeah, you can. Just go to your library on itunes and go to export. From there, you can sending your entire library to differebt comps. if you want.

^That's ispossible, my brother himself did it when he switched to a laptop. Old library's still on the old computer, just with a bunch of songs that won't play anymore, since the orginal files have been deleated.
