I know it's a little early but hey you can never be too prepared right, or something like that. Well I made this thread for the following purposes, to disscuss what we are all looking forward too in AnimeNext'07, what we liked from the last convention, what you would like to happen next year, and just to find out who's going.

id have to go with whatever i can afford. i live an hour away from the metro area so going to places to have fun with a lot of stuff is a pain in the ***. Neko you live in Neptune? u lucky, thats right by the shore. might not be good place for anime though.

I never cosplay things that are overdone. Once I cosplayed Cagalli from Gundam Seed, but that was before cosplaying as Gundam Seed characters was popular. Some potential idea of mine are Ringo from Air Gear or Aqune from Spider Riders.

hey theres nothing wrong with surfer chicks. theyre pretty damn hot. cept if i had to deal with a high preppiness factor id go Guts from Berserk on her.

maybe a haruhi suzumiya cosplay. that would be refreshing. or maybe do a cosplay as ohno cosplaying from Genshiken (interesting concept). and i never have seen a fate/stay night one either. thats kinda wierd, considering its popularity. and OURAN is always welcome too.

or do what a kid at my college did and cosplay a tetris piece. have a couple people do that and form a wall.

if im going to animenext next year im gonna be security for my friend, he going as Kyo from fruits basket, god help us all. hes gonna try to get a friend to go as tohru. there will be like 3 of us as bodyguards, with bamboo swords and possibly airsoft guns. i told him to charge for hugs and maybe pictures. that takes care of the hotel bill :)

...FruBa and Ouran Cosplay = overrated. But the Suzumiya Haruhi Cosplay... now thats better. in fact, i only saw one Haruhi cosplayer last year - which kinda sad cuz i was able to spot her in a sea or narutards. anyhoo.

but the narutard factor was ridiculous. we need something else to move in, besides bleach. something that other people wont know about when they see it, that HASNT BEEN IN HOT TOPIC OR ON TOONAMI!!

...finally. someone who speaks my language. in fact, if you want someone to recognize your cosplay, you might as well dress up like Nurse Witch Komugi - which is still kinda popular only due to the fact that the Japanese simply love Halko Momoi...

actually i meant i just have never heard of people cosplaying the anime a lot. cause i hadnt seen it at that point either. i was kinda making suggestions...-_-;. but its still good that theres SOME variety. besides naruto, kingdom hearts, fma and bleach. i hate kingdom hearts. besides the connection to early anime, dont cosplay as donald duck at a fricking ANIME CONVENTION!!! now i love bleach, but people are forgetting about a lot of anime. though there was an alucard. that i did notice.

i shouldve gone to otakon. a guy who got dragged by his gf to the con snapped and yelled "ANIME ****ING SUCKS!!". next thing he knew a giant wooden sword wielded by a zabuza wacks him right in the face. then two other zabuzas joined in.

man i wish i was there with a video camera.

oh and my college anime club from last year cosplayed resident evil and attacked the naruto photo shoot with airsoft guns, starting with the prez shooting a neji in the face at a distance of literally a FOOT.

i dont know if im going yet, cause its IN JULY! and its practically december now. im gonna try to go to anime boston. and i wanted to go to otakon, so i gotta pick and choose, cause otakon and next are two weeks apart. kinda hard on the wallet.

and i can actually socialize, dont like hentai or fanservice, have non anime friends, so i am no hikikomori

Meh, I might go this year since I really enjoyed last year (especially when me and my friend snuck in to see the D'espairsRay concert [unfortunately they didn't come on until like 1 AM]). But I might skip over it this year because I really, really want to go to Otakon (in fact, I'm supposed to find a hotel, it's prolly be impossible now...unless it doesn't have the con discount... eww).

AMEN NEKO. they are being very self destructive in this move. ive been to next, manga next, hopefully next year anime boston, and i really hope otakon. but theres one prob: the money. i gotta find a friend to split the costs with. and i really hope that they have some good guests. but if CLAMP or some other big artists decided to show up, then i can kiss finding a hotel goodbye......

...my friend, in cons, THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY. we had a guy bunk with us 2 WEEKS before Otakon. sure, it was kinda unplanned, but he made it happen. look in the Otakon boards. they have TONS of people willing, DYING, to share their room with anybody - yes, even girls don't mind.

ill eventually cosplay, but first id make props for money. i got some really awesome ideas, but for one, i dont think that a sword that can shoot out short burst of fire via sparks from wires comming from a battery in the hilt igniting flamable liquid would be allowed in a convention. but i could get rich off of selling that prop to someone.

i could probably do it once i learn fabricating things from auto school.

dude this is not in the immediate future. and most likely not at AN, cause i plan on moving out of jersey when i get the chance. but i definitely could do at least regular props if i got the chance. unfortunately i dont have the resources to do anything at the moment.

but i know a girl who is a highly regarded and excellent cosplay maker. next time i see her im gonna ask her to make me Naota's headband from FLCL. she also can do insanely good wigs. the one she did for Lulu from FFX is awesome.

There's the largest anime con in the US, Anime Expo (June 29-July 2 in Long Beach). Fanimecon (May 25-28 in San Jose). The largest comic convention, Comic-Con Internation San Diego (there are anime and manga stuff in there too beside comic).
Anime Los Angeles already past for this year (in January)

Anime Expo, Fanimecon, and San Diego Comic-Con International been around for a while now (AX and Fanime been around over a decade and they've been doing it annually). Anime Expo usually held at Anaheim Convention Center (this year ACC already been booked by someone else a while ago). Faminecon were held at different places in CA but they've been at San Jose for a few years now
There's Pacific Media Expo, but there's no date announced for this year (don't know if they'll be doing it this year). The three years PME been around, they were held in Anaheim, Long Beach, and Hilton LA Airport.

After BAAF went out of business, there's no anime con that takes place in NY. The people who run NY Comic-Con decided to bring an anime con to NY this December. Maybe there aren't that many anime fans in NY.

... there are a lot of anime fans in NY. the reason why BAAF didn't pick up was because of the Republican Convention that was held at the same time as the con. so there you have it. it seems there are more republicans than anime fans.

The problem was the republican convention was at the same hotel that BAAF was supposed to be at during the same week that BAAF was supposed to take place. So the committee decided to skip the con that year. They skipped it and apparently just figured it wasnt worth the hassle and just forgot about it.
