After watching one of those hentai where you get 15 minutes of story with only 5 minutes of sex, i started to think about this.
It reminds me of old pornos where you forwarded the tape to get to the action. now i find myself doing it more and more with hentai, some hentais are just 18 cert general anime.

Do we as hentai lovers really care about a plot

depends....if the plot is actualy a turn on..like a fantasy setting, to put you in the mood before watching the action...

Of, course we do Casper. It's one of the main reasons I watch it. However, when the developing story over-shadows the actual point of hentai then it is going too far. I would say an even 1 to 1 ratio is the best.

well.. i see hentai merely as more adult orientated anime.

so yes, story is just as important, although often poorly developed.

kite for example was originally an anime, but there wasnt funding for it so they put a few sex scenes in it, released it as a hentai, then rereleased it in sex-free format later, just as they did with mezzo.

ive seen a hentai called "Stairs" which really blew me away both with its realistic character portrayal (no perfect boobs or nurses) and the story itself. Dialogue was impressive in that it helped to develop the characters so well, something ive never seen in a hentai. It seems though that in Stairs, the director felt that due to the lack of sex in the first 3 quarters of the film he had to make up for it by cramming a montage of sex between the 4 main characters at the end... up till that point it had basically been a fairly good love story anime. But thats not to say, that the sex didnt add to it, i think it did. I particularely felt that the end was interesting, the anti-resolution, and the little piece of fleetwood which previosly was stopped and lingered around a post pretruding from the river, while Makoto was madly in love with Une, and while he dwelled on the idea of being with her. The ending scene has a flash of this river, flowing downstream once again taking a piece of fleetwood down, and although it hits the obstacle, it continues around it and the river takes it further down its journey. This was something i had never seen before in any hentai... the use of a symbolic motif to represent a characters development. The fleetwood passing brought with it the hope that perhaps Makoto will be able to move on with his life beyond Une.
Highly recommended for people who wish to see something with value beyond the usual.

If the plot is clearly stupid, like a blackmail thing, I will just skip to the sex scenes. But I can watch ones like Urotsukidoji or Bible Black from start to finish.

Well what I like about hentai more than just regular porno is that there tends to be more plot and story.

Exactly. To me a storyline is always important. Even if its not perfect/believable having story does add some variety lol.

I agree as well, the story and plot does help to enhance the erotic atmosphere. Sometimes, I actually watch a hentai in full due to the plot being interesting.

It does it gives the viewer a faint idea of whats going on in the hentai, and the type of plot it has may fancy his interest. It also gives a theme of what its about.
