Okay, I had doubts on this thread...first, I don't know if it's okay in OT discussion or if it should be in DVD...second, I don't know if it's not allowed all together.

Has anyone ever hacked they're DVD player? I wanna try, but I don't know if it could do damage....
For tohse of you who have no idea what I'm saying, hacking a DVDROM is normally pressing a sequence of buttons on the remote which allows the palyer to become region free and thus watch R2(for me) DVD's.

Anyway, for those of you who have done it, please share your expereinces.

Surely if it has a remote, it's a DVD Player, not a DVD-ROM. I've hacked both. I installed region-free firmware on my DVD-Rom drive, and I also bought a player with a code you can enter on the remote. Some anime only ever comes out in America, so I need a multi-region player to watch some of my DVDs.

Where'd you find said hacks and they didn't harm your player?

I found region-free firmware for my DVD-Writer here (http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php). The firmware works very well, and has not caused any problems with reading or burning discs of which I am aware. It's been over a year, too.

For my DVD player, the code was built in. All I need to do was to find it, which this (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks) site was able to help me out a lot with.

Oh i've seen a few sites when I searched for hacks on Google. One of them worked with the DVD player at my moms house, I forgot the site though. Its a UK based site from what I remember.

Sorry, i live in Australia. Both my DVD player and my DVD recorder were Region free when we bought them.

Now, if only consoles were region free from the shop too, without having to get them modded

(if you don't know, the courts decided region locking wasn't in the public's interest and made mod chips and unlocked DVD players legal)

The Pioneer DVR-111D and LG GSA-H10N on this computer are region locked (cause i cbf'ed patching it), the DVR-111D and GSA-H10A were Region free from the shop

By "courts" I assume you mean Australian courts.
