I've heard that things like christianity and such interest's ppl in japan becouse it's exotic to them, is it the same with the Souer system or is there a deeper meaning? Im not very familiar with french all girl schools but i here about many reference's to a deeper bond between friends about it (but can't really confirm becouse my french is horrible... i pretty much gotta listen to what other say) so is it just there becouse it's exotic or is there a deeper meaning?

sounds about right....a lot of all girl school anime takes place in some sort of Catholic school...apparently Mary is the patron deity of angsty teenage lesbians.

do you mean the system or the religious school part?
soeur system makes me think of a fun spin on the usual japanese younger-older student relation with french/catholic thrown in for novelty
from memory the setting is real but the school it's based on is not religious and the system is invented
praxe thing sounds like initiations

yeah, to me it sounds like a spin on the senpai/kohei relationships....if those actually do exist, lol. Remember, they are fancy pansy girls, maybe they think french makes them sound more sophistacated....although Sei would need a heck of a lot of French if that worked.

oh ok I've found some things
http://mariamite.free.fr/maria_article.htm
INTERVIEW WITH A JAPANESE FAN
You said that life at the Lilian Academy is a fantasy. It seems pretty realistic to us (YEAH RIGHT LAWD). In what ways is it a fantasy? Didn't the author try to present her vision of an european school instead of a japanese school?
Women that were taught at all-girl schools say that girls become lazy if there are no boys around. This would be too long to explain, so read the Joshi Kousei manga if you want to know more.
(...) I don't think Marimite is copied from other works. Those that studied the question say Marimite is derived from ancient types of shoujo:
-the esu concept comes from the eponymous novels of the 1910-20's. (esu: the characters are not in love but their relationship is deeper than friendship)
-recurrent 70's shoujo manga theme to include characters cut off from the outside
-the narrative is a mix of today's style and the 80's light novel style
blah blah 70's shoujo manga influenced by european culture
marimite tries to revive that nostalgic concept. I think the author tries to call back to culture of the 70's rather than the european style because there are lots of japanese elements (like the ginkos) in the series... DURR I CAN'T EXPLAIN IT VERY WELL
END QUOTE
from googling esu is japanese エス for the letter S for sister
oh snap I just read the thread title so let me stress that the soeur system doesn't exist for reals!... I mean in french

Personaly..I think France, has too many "good visions" to the Japanese...but I actualy never seen a actual representation of a European school without some Japanese contrasts in it.
I wonder....if they actualy made one though....but the "praxe" thing is the closest thing we got so far with the Marimite..."older sister and younger sister" system.
