i have been trying my hardest to find an OLD anime that in the US would have been labled a cartoon movie...it was shown on Showtime back in the 70's and these never made it to regular tv...They were called the Shogun Warriors....they would have been considered the Early Mecha Anime...probably bout the same time as the orginal Gundam series came out...it orginally centered around 3 robots named Raydeen, Gaiking, and Dynamo, of course my spellings could be slightly off on that. But they were out around 1975 and aired up through 1980...in 75 they were on tv in Japan and Hawaii were my dad was stationed, i USED to have the toys to the show...in 76 we moved back to the states, didnt see anything about this show until close to 1980 and it was shown on Showtime only as a kids movie...anything on these would be appreciated.

If you're takling about these guys:

http://www.alandeleon.com/shogun_warriors.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shogun_Warriors

Then you might've seen a few different shows. Tranzor-Z? Mazinger-Z? Getter Robo G? Any of these sound familiar?

There's Getter Robo here at AN: http://www.animenation.com/dvd-anime-dvd--e---g--getter-robo.html

But that doesn't look like it's quite the same as what you're looking for. I looked around other sites and found bootlegs, mainly.

How familiar does any of this material look (to try and narrow down exactly what you're looking for):

http://web.mit.edu/sseligma/www/gaik.html

Click around in the navigation bar to see the different shows, characters, etc.

I remember the toy line you're talking about, but I never saw the cartoon. The only cartoon like it that was broadcast in my area was Tranzor Z (originally Mazinger Z). The most notable feature I remember was the little hoverjet control pod that landed inside the mech's head, which made it different from, say Voltron or the other shows. It also had a range of cool attacks.

True, Mazinga was one of them...but here is a better look at the shogun toys and such we are talking about... http://www.wildtoys.com/Shogun/index.asp ...the link you provided is one of them yes, Gaiking, and Dangaurd Ace and Grendizer were all part of the Shoguns and each warrior had its own video...it was not common to see them all in one or teaming up, unless you were reading the Comic/Manga for it.

None of those shows are available on DVD, or even fansubbed. Sometimes there are remakes that are available on DVD, or as a fansub, but not the real version. When I say a remake, I mean a completely different anime, produced years later, but featuring a similar robot and similar plot elements.

Examples.

Mazinger -> Mazinkaizer. (ADV DVD)
UFO Robot Grendizer -> (not remade)
Daiku-Maryu Gaiking -> Gaiking: Legend of the Daiku Maryu (fansubbed)
Brave Raideen -> Superior Raideen (fansubbed)
Getter Robo -> New Getter Robo (ADV DVD)

well....i found a store that has the Marvel comics, but still have not been able to find the videos...and as long as the remakes are decent quality to be abl eto watch them without a lot of crap...i wouldnt mind buying those.

btw the comics are here: http://www.milehighcomics.com/cgi-bin/backissue.cgi?action=list&title=74242391526&snumber=1

Just for your information, the Shogun Warriors thing that you saw on TV was made from what in Japan were several different series. Completely and utterly unrelated in most cases. When you're looking for the remakes, they will be remakes of the original separate anime, so don't expect any "Shogun Warriors" references.

Of all the remakes, only two are out on DVD to buy. Both are good quality, but neither are quite what you're looking for, since they are based on Getter Robo and Mazinger Z, which may not have been prominently featured in the program you saw.

as for the names of the Robots, i know most of them. Shogun Warriors was the collective name of them, it was never really the name of the show, and i mentioned early that each one of the robots had its own show, hard part is trying got find someonehas those shows...i've enumerous refferences to the toys and the comics...i would simply like to find what i can of the shows.

Mazinger Z is just an updated version in my understanding of the Great Mazinger which was one of the shogun warriors as well....getter robo im not sure on.

That would be the other way around. Mazinger Z came first, and then the storyline was continued in Great Mazinger. I think you'll find that not only was the whole concept of "Shogun Warriors" invented by Mattel for the American market, but that the plots of the various shows you have seen will have been altered significantly. In other words, whatever you know about Shogun Warriors shouldn't be considered applicable outside of Shogun Warriors.

In other words, all I am trying to get across to you is that these robots were not all part of "Shogun Warriors" or any other such thing, in their native Japan. You'd be best advised to take a look at this non-exhaustive list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shogun_Warriors) of "Shogun Warriors" and concentrate your efforts on finding the shows under their original names, which is most likely at this point.

Your odds of finding a release of the show as you remember it are slim to nil. In the case of most of these anime, the best bet is either a modern remake, since the originals are mostly only availalble on low-quality bootlegs. You won't get a good quality translation, should you choose to go via the bootleg route.

If you are inclined to download anime, you might find a few episodes of some of these anime available online, but naturally the rules of this site forbid me from discussing that further than the bare possibility.

^ Thank you. That was the point I was trying to get across with the links I was providing, but Mazinger Z (and the rest) isn't my area of expertise. I knew someone here would set him straight.
