View Full Version : The Bleach dub sucks

Is it just me? Or does Gran Fisher sound like the cookie monster?

And why can't they just prounounce "Karin" "Care-inn" instead of the fake attempt at a poor Japanese accent "Kay-rien"?

The only voices I haven't enjoyed were Kon, Orihime and Yuzu. Other than that I actually think it's a great dub. (I really grew to like Ichigo, Every time I hear him I remember Vash  )

I don't like Kon's voice other than that I don't have a problem with the dub, I still prefer the subbed version more though.

I'm fine with the, I feel as if I explained my reasons 10 times on this forum....

The issues I have is some of the dialog & Ichigo's sisters voices.

Well, I feel this is a good dub. I missed episode 7 because of snow in my area knocking out my satellite dish image, but other than that, I'm caught up with what CN has aired so far.

I feel the need to rant!

A good majority of people though, and it seems to be happening so much more, are expecting way too much. One slip-up of a pronounciation, and they cry foul.

I feel as if I explained my reasons 10 times on this forum....

Levon I'm with you on this. It's why I usually avoid all discussions on current anime online. It gets tiring to convince people who are already some 100-episodes into a series, that the series is actually being given a halfway decent English dub.

Actually they can't be convinced anyways, so it's not worth it to argue. While it'll stink that I can't really discuss this anime anywhere without seeing my one thread countered by 10 that scream how bad the dub is, that's how things have gotten nowadays in anime fandom. Certainly a different beast than it was when I got into this craziness 10 years ago.

<rant over>

So long as the story is still there, and the characters are believable, I could care less how names are pronounced.

I'll just sit back and continue to enjoy what I enjoy, and this is one dub I like.

Interesting thing to me is that Wendee Lee does Tatsuki's voice, and I didn't even recognize it!....

There is no reason for it.

Good GOD it blows.

True, I gave up after the first two minutes of the first episode, but when the MAIN CHARACTER'S voice offends me it does not bode well for the series. I really do not want to be hearing that voice in almost every episode. This applies to all anime, not just Bleach. The other voices could be phenominal, but if the main character's is bad it ruins everything.

Anime fans are so nit-picky its ridiculous. This dub is decent. The only problem I have with this dub is Tatsuki, her VA just seems like she's trying too hard.

And Jesus said, "He who is guiltless may cast the first stone."

Check your own Engish first. Also, there are many people on these forums for whom English is not the primary language, so you need to realize that they will make mistakes.

And while Bleach may not be the worst dub, it is far from the best.

Bleach sounds fine. I have no problem with dubs in general unless it's hard to hear what they are saying (Captain Ginyu, some of the voices in One Piece). I do have a question for those of you who have seen Bleach in Japanese:

Is Kon pronounced "cone" or "con"? One person tells me it's said one way and another says it's the other way. Which is correct?

in pokemon, they called onigiri a donut. nelvana is an imfamous company just because of its bad editing. many a mecha anime has been destroyed, such as with robotech, which combined several anime in order to make it more appealing. Voltron, my first series, was put through the meat grinder and then pissed on. look at yugioh. doesnt anyone remember sailor moon? WAKE YOUR *** UP!!

Wow, I just watched the first volume on DVD and the dub sounds much better. Everything does, including music & sound effects. But back to the dub, on TV it sounds sort of muffled & cheap but on DVD the voices are very crisp & clear. The sound matches the music better, on TV the music seemed very low with the voices very loud.
It could just be me where my cable makes my audio sound messed up.

that has nothing to do with the dub's quality...that has to do with 4kids being ****** and american censorship which is bogus stories. If bleach was on toonami it would probably be just as edited as Naruto is. Thats why the dvd's and (one piece fansubs) exist.

so dub and editing are two different things. Go look at the Naruto uncut boxset

Renji on the other hand really should have a deeper voice. This is the first time the dub has dissatisfied me. Renji should not sound like that. Other than that, the dub is great, can't wait to see the soul society arc. I wonder what Kenpachi and Mayuri will sound like XD

Levon

I'm gonna hold my judgement on Renji until I hear more than a few lines.

The VA for Renji hasn't done a lot.

He voices Maximo in the Maximo games. Anyone play those games? I played the first years ago but don't remember his voice.

He also voiced this guy in Invader Zim: http://www.invaderzim.tv/char.php?charid=tallestred
Which I remember them sounding GREAT. The other one was voiced by Kevin McDonald(from the The Kids in the Hall).

Now he did voice Rufus Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, which I found one of the better voices in that dub. He sounded cool to me and that voice would fit Renji.

North america has a hard enough time finding live action actors that can actually act, so vioce actors, which requires a different kind of skill and these people don't get reconized as much as live action actors, so there are less people to go into voice acting let alone voice actors who are actually good at it. the dub is cheesy, but that is part of the appeal. I'm just happy the voice work is better than final fantasy X.

You must take the show far too serious. So what if theres chessy lines in this show because its a chessy show itself. Its a fighting anime where the badass hero says chessy cliche comback lines.
Now if it was a serious show like Le Chevalier D'Eon or Ergo Proxy then it would be out of place.

All of us that follow the show know to take it with a grain of salt, since it uses humor to avoid being overdramatic and forced. Seems like you need a lesson in how shonen works.

Ehh.... I thought it was okay. Like someone previously said, some of the characters work, and some don't. Which, is how alot of the Dub's workout. Although, I still want to see Ichigo do Vash's crazy laugh.

You guys are arguing over a show that probaly six months from now we'll all be going on about how it sucks and 'DAMN CAN"T THEY RESCUE RUKIA/ORIHIME/WHOMEVER YET??!!"

ETA: I just realized that the VA who voices Uryu is also the same actor that was Keitaro in Love Hina.

GTFO and never come back.

easy, psycho-boy

So you can't reply to my comment as to why you disagree and instead you just spam insults towards me? Real mature Just stop.

And yes I remember that line in the dub now, I just don't take it that serious & nitpick the dub like some fanboys do. Although as I said I'd prefer they stayed more accurate to the original script.

I just got a little ticked off over what seemed to me like a shallow remark, it has nothing to do with being a fan. I apologize if I insulted you:)

Bleach and Naruto both actually have pretty good dubs. To those of us who love anime, but don't speak the japanese language personally, we read the lines, but don't hear them in ways we understand. We pretty much just hear the emotion. But a good look at the lines and you realize that half of what is being said is corny as all hell. When it's in a language you understand, there's no missing how lame some of the dialogue is. But yeah, the dub does the job just fine. I'm fairly impressed by it considering. Still suffers from one major flow of English dubs though. Same voice actors in almost everything.

Hey was that Vic Mignona as the bald Shinigami that Ichigo was fighting against? If so, I didn't even recognize him; I thought Viz used either California Actors or the Canadians? Still, he's awesome.

Damn Ishida certainly comes prepared for everything; gotta love that in a man.

Can't wait until everyone learns that Yoriuchi's a girl

The other Shinigami that was fighting Ganju had a deeper voice than I expected.

Yeah I was thinking that was Vic Mignona, but it diddn't sound 100% like him. I think it would be much more obvious sounding if it was him. Just sounds similar. But sometimes other VAs will work with other groups if there in the area. For example Monica Rial voiced this bone princess in a Mermaid Forest episode, I don't know what company dubbed it but VA's like Wendee Lee, Michelle Ruff, Liam O'Brien & such were in it so it wasn't ADV or FUNi clearly. I think thats the only non-ADV/FUNi dub shes been in.
So its possible.

Hey guess what? IT is Ed Elric himself...

According to animenewsnetwork anyway.

Could be true. It does sound very similar to him.
Although Animenewsnetwork has been wrong. I mean they have Michelle Ruff listed as Yuzu which is wrong. They have her listed as voicing another character but I don't think thats true, but I don't remember her voice.

It was definitely Vic Mignogna. He's even listed among the names in the credits. While Vic lives in Texas and thus mainly does work for studios there, there are some cases of VA's traveling around and doing work for other studios. Vic has been in a New York-based dub too.

Sweet!

Anyway, I noticed that a lot more Texas based actors that have been in Funi shows are appearing in stuff by Geneon or Viz like Mignona and Travis Willingham.

Offends you?

I laugh with Levon. How the hell can you be offended by the voice of a character? Does he sound like the man who beat you in your early childhood?

WTF?

I'm really enjoying Bleach on adult swim... though I think the infiltration of the soul society is taking a bit to long (which is a problem that has nothing to do with the dub itself).

After sitting down and watching a complete episode switching between it and the Australian Grand Prix, I'm genuinely impressed with the voice cast. No voice I've heard has been miscast in it so I've got no complaints.

Actually I think the dub was calling him names & calling him a "fanboy" so maybe thats why the dub offends him. Makes perfect sense...

Kenpachi's English voice pisses me off. He doesn't sound as hardcore as in Japanese. But Ichimaru's voice is an improvement in the dubbed.
