View Full Version : A SERIOUS Ipod Thread (cause I think I might have broken mine)

Dude...what the hell is wrong with my freakin' Ipod?
This afternoon on the bus I put it on, right? So the fast-forward symbol goes up and stays up, fast forwarding my music without me touching it. Then it was fine. When I got home I tried to charge it and it worked. Then I took it out and the same screen has been frozen on it for an hour. I know I didn't do anything to it. I treat my Ipod like a newborn baby. So I tried to put it back IN the charger, and it says the USB cable is an unrecognized device.
I REALLY DON'T WANT ANYTHING TO BE WRONG WITH IT.
1. I love my Ipod. It influences my singing style and it helps relieve stress.
2. My dad can and will kick my ***. This thing was $300 and I had it for less than a year. Mind you that he was already in a bad mood.
PLEASE GOD SOMEONE INTELLIGENT HELP ME.

Do a soft reset.
then plug it back into your computer, and tell me what happens.
what type of Ipod is it?

ah! I found it:
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
Something like this usually happens to all hard drive based mp3 players :)
and, I don't have an ipod, but soft reset is usualy a normal reset in a frozen or off state. But, I found this:
"toggle the Hold switch on and off"
once again, no Ipod
sometimes, you may lose all your music, it happens

Well if you had it for less than a year you can take it to your nearest Apple Store and have them take a look, if they're lazy enough they'll replace it on the spot. That is if all other options fail of course.

BTW
Additional information
iPod calibrates its touch-sensitive surfaces when you turn off the Hold switch. Touching the buttons or the touch wheel on a sleeping iPod at the same time that you turn off the Hold switch causes iPod to calibrate to the capacitance of your finger instead of the air. This can cause iPod to turn on but appear unresponsive when waking from sleep.

Hey I could teach you how to use it, but you'd have to come here and you probably won't want to leave. Or you can give me the ipod.

That's OK. It took me two weeks to figure mine out and I ended up deleting my songs on it for a while.

I bet she is.
I have a philips 30GB, got a good deal on it. It has almost been a year. I've grown a major distaste of windows and it's **** synch function, so I started using Yahoo music Jukebox, I'm happier now. :D Even though my Philips is "Windows play4sure", I don't require windows media player :D
Now if the core media player worked, it's be a good day.

I don't like iPods, and I will never buy one. They aren't more suseptible to errors more than any other MP3 player. It is just that:
1) There are a large variety of many iPod products. The more products, the more errors.
2) Mp3 players are not perfect, all of them can break. As far as processor issues go, all hard drive mp3 players can freeze... It's a damn 3in. hard drive, with some mini processor, what do you expect?
3) They are bought by the majority of the mass... and the majority of the mass don't know what the hell they are buying... hell, the people at circuit city don't know what the hell they are selling. Thus, in many cases, it is the users fault the mp3 player broke.
iPods are the most babied piece of hardware in the world.

iRiver is twice as easy to use, holds more for the same size, looks better, and has better sound.

Man... That happened to me also awhile ago, and the worse is we only buy it just yesterday. Anyway, we do what the instruction says and our ipod works again. I HOPE!
I think Ipods especially Nano with videos and have atleast 20 GB of hard drive are turning to become defective 360s. Thats what's happening. I KNEW thats whats happening!
And for the fact that we're not the only ones suffer <_< I think most of us who buy ipods!

No... that would be a common in that field of technology. I think the only way to get around freezes is to incorporate like an AMD processor(not happening) and make the disk spin faster, as to not skip, which causes some freeze ups)

Good thing you buy the old but stable version of ipod. The new version of electronics except for computers seemed to be messing up like the new release of the PS2 and 360, and now even Ipod Nano. Atleast our Ipod is working again. I just hope the hanging will not happening often...

Didn't read all the thread, but Ipods have a one year warranty and there are instructions how to go about it on their website. Just depends on what is wrong with it if the warranty will cover it.
Rule number one about Ipods, buy them somewhere that offers an extended warranty.

Even with the extended warranty you may just end up replacing the ones you buy over and over again. The extended warranty only used because companies knows you dont have to used that warranty anytime within the time limit. Even the warranty sets it in one year...
If this trend of hanging ipods continues, apple may end up losing profits...

doubt it, since all hard drive mp3 players hang. I think hanging will deffer buyers from ipod onto other brands, but people who have other brands that also hang may switch to the all mighty and famous ipod.

Why most mp3 players hangs anyway?

Because they have hard drives and "slow" processors. It's kind of like when your computer freezes, it just does. It's a flaw of hard drives, but atleast it enables you to hold 30GB of music :D as opposed to Flash memory players (usually less than 2 GB)

So do you mean the PCs and components/stereos are more powerful than MP3 players? And I thought these ipod things are the replacement of these things? I guess not, its only just a mere accesory. Atleast its better than the walkman and the discman...
