Very nice! It's not surprising that they have Strawberry Panic to go along with the novels. I wonder what other titles they have. I'll have to poke around Lillilicious' site. ^_^ Maria-sama would be the most obvious pick-up, I'd think, but they didn't seem confident in being able to get it away from Viz. Maybe that's changed. What's the other "Strawberry?" Was it Strawberry Shake? I'm glad it's happening finally, and I don't mean this to in any way complain, but I hope the titles aren't all depressing, girl-commits-suicide, girls-break-up-for-boys, the-world-is-ending type releases. A little angst along the way is okay, but give us some happy endings, please. One Blue was enough. :P

Yeah, I think it's cool too. I'm not sure about the jumbo sized format, I like the standard size most companies have been using, but that's a minor issue.
Maybe they'll license Simoun... or Air Master (which is probably more shonen than yuri, but hey, I can wish, right?). :P

Man, if they had Strawberry Shake in there, that would be completly awesome. I still want to hurry up and finish that mangaka...the chapters don't come out soon enough.
But yeah, this sounds interesting, and I hope it isn't the cliche "girl ends up with guy thing" but I figured it was only a matter of time, since they have a yaoi line and all.

^_^ I'm going to have to pick up Strawberry Panic when It comes out. I just got Lazy with watching it in fragments on Youtube >_>.
Ok, I've been wondering about this. What is with "Strawberry"? O_O it seems to be in every manga inolving girls that I see. From Tokyo MewMew to... what is it, Strawberry Eggs?. Is there some association with girls and Strawberries or something? 0-0.

Then you'll still be waiting for a while since only this is the manga that was licensed (and the novels have already been licensed).

All they've licensed so far is Strawberry Panic, Saigo no Seifuku, and Tetragrammaton Labyrinth.

Cool!
It's about time someone had a "yuri line"... (other than ALC who hardly do anything, and are scary people when they do)
'cept... I don't think I've ever seen any Seven Seas titles available here in the UK. Books are so much heavier for me to import than DVDs & CDs...!! So much in shipping charges...
Ah well. It's good, overall. ^_^

They've got several more licenses that they weren't ready to announce. I wouldn't get too upset over a lack of something quite yet. SSS is a popular title among fans, is pretty friendly to the mainstream content-wise, and unless it's owned by Viz's parent company, it's got a good chance of being in the line-up.

You know what would rock even more? If it became animated. I mean cmon, it could be the new shoujo-ai love comedy that we've all been looking for since Battle Athletes. And we ALL love Battle Athletes.
And yeah, I don't have a doubt if not now, will eventually be picked up. If that happens, I just hope lililicious keeps scanlating it. I don't want to wait another year just to finish this series.

Cool! I was just thinking how I wanted to try out another yuri manga. It's cool that a company is finally going to publish some! I am very interested in the Strawberry Panic manga! I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Sadly up until 1995 pretty much all of them ended very depressingly. I'm guessing they will be releasing more modern ones though so im sure we will get some happy ending's.

Whoah, this is awesome! *o* What a nice thing to wake up too, seeing this. I was excited when they announced the light novels, and this just makes things even better.
I'm so glad they're going to come out with Strawberry Panic!, that's probably my favorite one. And I agree, Strawberry Shake would be nice to see. I hope they do Hayate Cross Blade too...no one has even seemed to do scanlations of that unfortunately. Which is weird. I mean, yuri + action, comedy, and sword fights at an all girls school. What more could one ask for? Other than the fact it's done by the same artist that did Strawberry Shake. Well anyway, I can't wait for their new Strawberry releases.

Well, I meant pick up the manga ^^. As far as the anime goes, I can wait :P. Either way, I'll still get to see the rest of the series without the frustrations of "Ok...that was the first half of three...now...where's the other?...*searching* why isn't it there? No wait, that's by a different person...*flails*" XDD

I think many peoples dislike for yaoi fans comes from the behavior of some of them moreso than the yaoi itself, so..... probably not. I don't see the presence of more yuri changing said yaoi fans' behavior.

Hmmm. Yeah, I guess there are a number of people put off by the gushing yaoi fangirl stereotype. But I sometimes wonder if some of the animosity of the yuri fans comes from the fact that yaoi has really set up shop in the US, from the early success of titles like Fake and Gravitation to companies like Blu, Be-Beautiful, and DMP dedicating entire lines to yaoi. Meanwhile, except for the random title, yuri has been shut out. Look at Matt's reaction: "It's about damn time!" And he's one of the more vocal folks around here cheering yuri and jeering yaoi. I just wondered if part of the "competition" between yaoi and yuri fans had a bit to do with yuri fans feeling slightly resentful or jealous that yaoi readers have so many titles to choose from in the US while yuri has been relatively untouched. I happen to like both yaoi and yuri. And I'm not trying to stir things up, it's just an observation on my part. But I guess now we can ALL be happy.

I'd say it's moreso for the behavior of said fan's, (and i wish they would aim a bit at the niche) but speaking as a fan of anime in general i have a grudge against it becouse the minute a title is released it's licensed while any other genre takes a year or two. personally i like how the Yuri genre is niche though, it's nice to see allot of it written...err drawn by women (gay and straight) and I've even liked some written by a guy (like the blue drop manga... though you could argue since there are het one shot's in it) If yuri becomes to mainstream and floods the market then that will suck..... thankfully lililicous will still scanlate the kinds the fan's like. anyway's on topic i hope they release marimite (I've been watching the serie's and would love to compare it to the manga) how on earth can you start a project like this without marimite?
Though i have this feeling that this line isn't going to last very long, I just can't see very many ppl being interested so i wouldn't be surprised if after a year they stop due to lack of sales.

Yeah, I'm more annoyed by how the "Yaoi Fangirl" acts moreso than the actual art. Although I suppose same could be said for yuri fans.
Although Earsofdoom makes a good point. This COULD may well not be as succesful as we want it to be. Maybe for members at Yuricon, but as far as places like Barnes And Noble...I'm not so sure.

NEVER! We shall pick up our (new) Yuri Paddles and go on the offensive!
But Earsofdoom makes a good point. Yuri is a very big niche market. It is liked by straight and gay females in Japan, but it isnt well known in America ,and maybe even wont be that well accepted by the anime community.
I think because of a lot of the unbridled hatred towards "anime females" this genre may have trouble taking off.
DazzleKitty
October 24th, 2006, 10:37 PM
I don't think this will have trouble taking off at all. There are plenty of male fans that love anime females, and I believe they will be the main buyers. On top of that, half the yaoi fans out there like yuri too, so I think it will sell okay between the two of them.

The best part of the format right now is the size. Getting back to a good size manga like the old Viz releases rather than the dinky pocket size ones TP made standard. Might have a slightly higher price tag, but I don't care. I was lapping stuff up when it was $15 or $16 a shot, and for quality work like Seven Seas does, it'll certainly be worth it.

I wonder if there's any chance they will bring the Yuri Shimai/Hime magazine's over here? It has everything from one-sided unrequited love to really dramatic confession (as well as the fan favourite strawberry shake) If they release both this and Marimite It would be a great start.

The chances of that are zero. We have are own version of Shonen Jump, but that's it. Shojo Beat isn't even based on an actual magazine and its series come from various magazines.
They aren't going to start giving us the magazines, but they could potentially license the tankouban of some of the series that run in them. For the one-shots that run in the magazines, we are SOL unless their others start longer series at some point and the one-shots are included in the tankouban release.

Yeah, I talked to the council of yuri fans and Matt's fandom has been revoked. Please don't use him as an example of male yuri fans. If he posted a fraction of this crap at an actual yuri board he would've been banned by now or atleast chased out by everyone flaming him. He doesn't represent anyone except one very pathetic troll.

This isn't part of the Strawberry line, but I figured this might be an appropriate thread to mention it in-- Iono the Fanatics (aka Iono-sama Fanatics) has been licensed by Infinity Studios!
It's a cute, funny yuri gag manga that manages to have a few sweet moments too. :) I'd definitely recommend buying the first volume when it comes out in March 2007.
