I wanted to start this so anyone could talk about Inuyasha or ask questions. I guess I'll start off by asking what is your favorite Inuyasha character? Mine is Inuyasha of course! :)

October 13th, 2006, 07:57 PM
Well I don't recall seeing the 1st one. Maybe I did but I don't remember if I did. The 2nd one is ok but the 3rd and 4th ones are really excellent.

I have the 1st and 2nd ones also. Sometime maybe I can record them for you? I have the 3rd one too! :) I just never watched the 3rd one because It aired once on CN and I fell asleep in the mid of it. Also, I still have to get my DVD's out yet. I don't have them all out yet. I bought some of them when Sam Goody closed. What is the 3rd one like?

The third one is about Inu Yasha and Sesshomaru's father's secret sword, which is called the Sounga. Just like his sons' two swords, this sword is very powerful , actually more powerful, and possesses anyone who uses it. So basically the two brothers have to unwillingly fight together in order to seal the sword away for good.

My favorite would have to be the third movie. I like it because Sesshomaru is kicking alot of *** in it.

Yeah. Sesshomaru does kick butt! :) They should feature him more in the anime. They don't show him enough.

Affections Touching Across Time (the first movie) in and of itself was good, but the animation quality was lackluster, at times even downright poor, and I'm afraid that's the reason I've only watched Affections Touching Across Time once or twice. Also, of the four movies, Affections Touching Across Time is the least impressive.
The other three movies, on the other hand, I absolutely loved (and not just because the animation quality in the other three movies is MUCH better than the animation quality of the first). It's sort of hard to decide between those three which I would call my favourite, although I guess it's probably Swords of an Honorable Ruler, because...well, I won't spoil it for you. :D

Swords of an Honourable Ruler is the best of the three...
The only good things about Affections Touching Across Time were the neat chinese moth-youkai villain Menoumaru (I just liked his human-form character design and style) and his two cute and nifty fangirls, Ruri and Hari.

IMHO, Swords of an Honorable Ruler and Fire on the Mystic Island get gold stars for giving Sesshoumaru plenty of screen time. I love it when he is actually included in the plot and gets a chance to whip some butt. That's part of the reason I loved Swords of an Honorable Ruler so much.

Fire on Mystic Island I didn't like so much, except for Sesshoumaru's scenes. I'm really not sure why. Maybe it's just that I first saw it so close to the four beast god youkai in the anime...

I also believe the fourth movie was so-so too. The second movie was better. The thing that gave the fourth movie extra points was that the character designs were similar to the series' character designs.

Part of the reason I liked Fire on the Mystic Island was because of Sesshoumaru's scenes. I love watching Sesshoumaru in battle, because 95% of the time, he's calm, keeps his cool, and makes beating up baddies look so simple. That, and I thought the hanyou children were cute, and Shippou got a chance to be useful.

You know, I actually wasn't paying that much attention to the character designs, but now that you mention it...you're absolutely right. The character designs in the fourth movie are no different from the character designs in the TV series, whereas the character designs in the other three movies more closely resemble Takahashi's character designs in the manga.

I love Inuyasha. I have seen all 167 episodes and all 4 movies (now I just need to import the Japanese version of the Cursed Mask game and see the OVA).
Inuyasha is definitely my favorite character, but there are many fantastic ones, including all of the main protagonists.
My favorite movie of the four is the first one, without a doubt. They were all very good, but the first one was extra wonderful and special to me. The scene where Inuyasha and Kagome speak to each other across time is one of my favorite scenes in any movie of any kind.
I can't say I have a favorite episode that comes to mind. Too many great ones.
I will also note that I am a sub/raw-only fan. I will watch the dub sometimes with my brother for his sake, and will try and be gracious about it all, but in itself I just don't like the English dub. Most voices leave a lot to be desired, and the way some things are translated are poor (ex: youkai as "demon", and worst of all, Bakuryuuha as "Backlash Wave"), but far more bothersome than that to me is the horrific pronounciation of the names. Mostly everything from Kagome to Miroku to Sesshoumaru to Naraku is butchered. It gives me a headache. Of course, this is my opinion, and dub fans are welcome to enjoy it.
I however am a huge fan of the Japanese version. The voices perfectly fit the characters, and bring them to life in every way. Every emotion and feeling is brought out excellently. Fantastic acting. ^^

^Yes let Kikyo die already yeesh. From what I've seen of InuYasha so far she needs to just die. She makes an appearance on the 4th movie if I remember correctly. I prefer the movies over the series myself. The 3rd movie Swords of an Honorable Ruler is excellent. You should watch it sometime soon, Kagura. :)

I will have to sometime! I would really like to dress up as a charcter from Inuyasha for Halloween! That would be so awesome! I would probably dress up as Sango. Another thing about Inuyasha, I wish that Inuyasha would make up his mind already. Kikyo or Kagome. Who do you think Inuyasha would choose? He is always bouncing back & forth between the 2. I hope that Miroku & Sango get together though. From the way she acts sometimes I think she has the hots for him! :)

I agree. The main thing that will keep me from ever watching an entire dubbed episode of InuYasha is the pronunciation. It frustrates me to no end that the English voice actors cannot pronounce to characters' names correctly to save their lives. Even the simplest names are butchered, and as someone who is very particular about pronunication, that bugs me like nothing else.

Since you asked, I'm going to tell you, but this is a huge spoiler for the manga.
Yes, Kikyou completely dies in the manga - she died recently. Naraku killed her, and this time, she is not coming back.
We have heard nothing about there being another InuYasha movie in the works, and given that Sunrise seems to have abandoned the franchise altogether, I doubt there's a chance of another movie being made.

You hit the nail on the head with the hammer girl! He sure is that way! I mean almost every episode he is asking girls if they will bear his children. He should really think of poor Sango. :( SHAME ON YOU MIROKU!!!  He makes the show kind of funny though. His wind tunnel is kind of useful at times also.

Well I heard a theory sometime ago about why Miroku behaves the way he does towards Sango. It was because he wanted to put Naraku first before his feelings for Sango. That's why when they had some romantic moment going on, he would mess up the mood and grope her. He really didn't want his feelings for Sango to get in the way of his main objective, which is destroying Naraku and getting rid of his wind tunnel so he could lead a normal life. Of course he eventually admits his feelings for Sango, but that could only happen after Naraku is destroyed.

Oh yeah, Sesshoumaru got a helluva lot more screen time in Swords of an Honorable Ruler than he did in Fire on the Mystic Island. He was one of the focal characters of the movie! That was part of the reason I wanted to see that movie so much - I knew, based off the plot, that Sesshoumaru would get tons of screen time, which meant we'd get to see him duke it out against a few bad guys.

Of course he eventually admits his feelings for Sango, but that could only happen after Naraku is destroyed.
There's another explanation for Miroku's behaviour: Have you ever noticed how Sango was the only woman whom Miroku never asked to bear his child? I think that was because he really, truly cared for her, but he didn't want her to become too attached to him and develop feelings for him. Why? Because he knows there's a chance he will die before Naraku is destroyed, and he doesn't want to die knowing he is leaving behind someone who deeply loves him.
Of course, Sango developed feelings for Miroku despite his efforts to ruin all the romantic moments between them, and he realized that he was actually hurting her by flirting with other women and not flirting with her. That was when he proposed to her. ^_^

I agreee. I think Miroku doesn't want to get close to Sango because he knows if Naraku isn't killed, the curse (wind tunnel in his hand) will eventually suck himself up and he will die. He doesn't want to make Sango suffer and stuff over his death. Also, why he maybe didn't ask her to bear his children is cause he doesn't want to Sango to watch as their child would suffer the same curse as Miroku and she would have to watch Miroku die and her child.

Correction: Miroku didn't want to get close to Sango (or Sango to get close him) - past tense, kiddo. After he realized that Sango had fallen in love with him despite his efforts to form a gap between them, he let himself get close to her. Otherwise they wouldn't be engaged right now. :naughty:

Sesshomaru was little more than an afterthought for Fire on the Mystic Mountain, to get the "Fluffy Fangirls". In fact, I felt that way about Kikyo too. It's always a pleasure for me to see her on screen, but despite the effort to tie her in to the story, she just...didn't have an important presence (in fact, it's like her clone was more important to the story than her). So I put it in with the second movie, in how it felt like the movie was mostly going for fanservice (don't get me wrong, I still like Fire on the Mystic Mountain).
That's actually why I liked Swords of an Honorable Ruler the most, despite not liking Sesshomaru much since his character has always seemed to my like the archetypical cold hearted person whose personality is gradually softened by the presence of a trusting younger person. But even so, something about the third movie felt like it was trying to transcend just being filler.

I would argue that the fourth movie is much less of a fanservice movie than the first two were, at least with regards to appealing to the Sesshoumaru fangirls. In the first two movies, Sesshoumaru just appears without actually doing anything, but the fact that he is there and in the opening credits will of course please his fans. In the fourth movie, he actually had a reason for appearing, although the movie could have done quite well without him.

Sometimes I wonder how different InuYasha would if Sesshoumaru were more of a main character (i.e., appeared in every episode/chapter), and I see more cons than pros. Yeah, Sesshoumaru is a cool character, but there's the issue of his - and Inuyasha's - character development. I think much of the brothers' development had to happen when the two were nowhere near each other. Since I don't want to provide spoilers, I won't give any details, but I don't think Sesshoumaru would have grown in the way he has if he had to face his brother every single chapter. Nor do I think Inuyasha would have grown in the way he has if he had to face Sesshoumaru in every chapter.

I know I sound like I'm just being difficult, but I actually wonder about that. There's no denying that Sesshoumaru is an awesome character, but would he make an awesome hero? It's not that I think he isn't cool enough to be the protagonist, nor do I think there's anything wrong with an antihero being the protagonist. Sesshoumaru is one of my favourite characters. But with his personality, the series would be very different if he were a protagonist. A lot of changes would have to be made, unless Takahashi were to break from some of her classic formulas.

Yes, it ended over two years ago, but apparently there are some Stateside fans who still hope that Studio Sunrise will change their minds and decide to pick up production of the anime again. (I have a feeling that Japanese fans have long since come the conclusion that InuYasha is well in Sunrise's past.)

It's not unheard of for an anime to have a cliffhanger ending like InuYasha did. I bet most long-time or experienced fans on this forum can name at least one anime they've seen that had a cliffhanger/open-ended ending; the majority can probably name at least three. It's frustrating, but it happens, and there isn't much we can do about it.
(Besides, you can see how InuYasha ends. When I suggested that you read the manga, I was serious. I think most IY fans would argue that the manga is much better than the anime. Yes, it's long, but hey, there are no fillers! Everything is told the way Rumiko Takahashi meant for it to be told.)
