View Full Version : How Graphic is Yaoi?

I usually read shōnen-ai, with just the hugging and kissing, but I really went to take a step up to the more graphic stuff, but not to graphic. I was just wondering how graphic yaoi usually is and if there is a series without alot of graphic sex. :uhh:

Well...Yaoi really doesn't have a "limit". It ranges anywhere from the cute fluff to the "Holy ****! He just did what WHERE?!" xD If you want very light sex, I'd say to try...
"Sweet Revolution"- one volume
"Passion" -two volumes
or
"Desire"- one volume
[All released by DMP Publishing/June Manga]
If you want a longer story and haven't already read it, FAKE [TokyoPop] would also be a good choice. It's seven volumes long and nothing happens till the very end sex-wise, but again, it isn't all that graphic.

Congrats on your willingness to try something different.
First, Stay away from these: The Finder series, Sensitive Pornograph, Enzai, and Level-C. You really need to work up to these titles (if you know what I mean).
There's a wide range of Yaoi titles out there. Any particular interests? What Boy's Love titles do you like (and we can give better suggestions)?
To start, I would suggest Little Butterfly about two opposite teenage boys who explore their feelings for each other. Another light one is Black Knight, with a fantasy setting (the extra short story in the book is fairly graphic, though). Also, give FAKE a try. It's mainly BL up to volume 7. Vol 7 was my first true YAOI title. With all the hints and teasing through the entire series, I was just waiting for the relationship to become physical.
Once you get used to the more intimate scenes, you may want to try Love Mode and Yellow. Great storylines in both of these, but are a little more graphic.
Any disagreement?
Edit: Just read what Same Animefan wrote and I agree. Desire is a great one-shot with a good storyline. Passion is also very good (and Volume 3 is comming out early next year BTW).

O_O there's a third volume? Really? It's been so long since I've read the series...did it leave off at a cliffy? I don't even remember -_-;;. Just looked through it to see what the sex was like for Kimbeey.
I'm excited now ^_^ I shall have to re-read for it
Oh, and since you brought up a good point here... Kimbeey, Just stay away from anything published by BeBeautiful Manga for now ^_~ You may be scared if you're just testing the graphic waters xD. [AKA: Kizuna, Embracing Love -Haru wo daiteita-, Golden Cain, Finder series, Play Boy Blues, Sound of my Voice, Selfish Love...]

I was wrong. Passion volume 3 is scheduled for Dec 13, 2006. :) Check out the link: http://www.junemanga.com/titles?n=10&t=159
I really thought it was over after the second volume. It seemed all wrapped up with a happy ending.
And, I absolutely agree: Stay away from BeBeautiful, most of Drama Queen, and Kitty manga, at least for a little while. :naughty:

Oh ^^ now I remember. I thought they just left it off at Hikaru graduating. Cool
Ah, yes, Drama Queen and Kitty Media. I wouldn't worry too much about trying to avoid those, neither has very much Yaoi material released. I can never find anything Kitty in my bookstores EVER. And God forbid you try and go through their website for anything but lesbian live porn o_O...with Nuns... Go ahead. I dare you to try and click their "Manga' button...it. Doesn't. Work. *twitch*

Thanks for all your suggestions so far, I shall look into them. ^_^

I have read Eerie Queerie (Ghost), Loveless(though the age difference bothers me a little), and Descendant of Darkness (I'm not sure if this counts). I also watched the anime Gakuen Heaven, which I enjoyed immensely.
I like just about everything, though I tend to go for, when there are two or more people going after the same person, the most.

Definently stay away from Brother and Rising Storm. I think those two are the most explicit ones yet. All of BeBeautiful's and Kitty Media's manga are explicit also, as mentioned by those above.
I would highly recommend FAKE. Only the last volume has sex, while the others have kisses and maybe some fondling if I remember right.
Some other ones I would recommend that have little sex or no sex: Desire, Only the Ring Finger Knows, Dear Myself, Challengers, Gorgeous Carat, Lost Boys, Our Kingdom, La Esperanca, Shout Out Loud, and Wild Rock. There are several more that fit the category you are looking for, but these are some of the ones that I liked the most.
