I just found this and I am quite intrigued; however, I am not familiar with what the "Aum case" was or who the Aum Shinrikyo group was, so I am not sure what sort of changes would have been made. However, the post makes it seem like Eva was very closely related to Aum.

Another intriguing thing mentioned is the concept of angels changing their forms "into pyramids, into shadows." I wonder what that means and if it has any correlation to th Dirac Sea.

Yet another is the statement put forth that the mysteries were originally all intended to be explained, but Anno changed his mind halfway through the series.

I've referenced this article here and again. Interesting stuff, and hard to come by in English, since it's an "external" look at NGE from a Japanese critical eye.

"Into pyramids, into shadows" just sounds like a vague reference to Ramiel and Leliel to me.

Yet another is the statement put forth that the mysteries were originally all intended to be explained, but Anno changed his mind halfway through the series.
There is a fabled turning point (circa #16) that reflects an altered mindset on Anno's part. Wish I had another source handy...
