View Full Version : Diebuster Final Episode - thoughts?

Didn't really want to bump a 3-month old thread, and there doesn't seem to be any (recent) dedicated Diebuster thread, so...
*Possible Spoilers*
I don't usually watch anime raw, so I just now finished watching the subbed Ep6.
In a way, it really felt like a Gainax Ending; vague and a bit confusing, both happy and sad. Things progressed a bit too fast for my liking (tying up every loose end?) but it still isn't as bad as...Iunno, but it was still okay.
The thing I really liked, though, is how they tied the this ending to the previous ending. In particular, the ending scene was (to me) very moving, as it stirred up memories of GB's ending as well.
Almost a month too late, perhaps...but thoughts??

Just watched it this morning before going to uni. :P It was great, but not original-Gunbuster-great. Episodes 4 and 5 had better pacing and action, IMO; this one had too little Lark/Nono interaction before the dramatic resolution. And the (second!) shirt-ripping was still forced.

There is a new mecha god.

Definately Gainax's best series since Eva... (though it doesn't hold a candle to it and the original GB) and no I'm not a fan of flcl.

Feels a lot like the final episode of Macross Zero.

LOL.

I kind of hoped that they wouldn't leave the DieBuster's appearance until the final episode, but oh well...

True...maybe after that long limbo, Gainax is finally getting its lazy arse up.

I haven't even read any posts here for fear of spoilers. Just wanted to say thanks for the info that the sub for Episode 6 is out.
:Runs and leaps to car in anticipation of downloading the episode at home:

Feels a lot like the final episode of Macross Zero.
Good comparison, although Zero's finale was more fap-worthy action-wise. Fraternity vs. mini-bugs was a big letdown, even for a warm-up.

Don't you mean goddess(es)?

So... why's this in Evangelion?

It seems to be the way of many Gunbuster threads, same as SRW goes in Gundam.

There's no dedicated Gunbuster subforum, and since GB is also from Anno, it just gets herded into here for convenience...
I suppose the one thing that I didn't mind from the Studio Arrangement Incident was that it put all the Top wo Nerae! and Evangelion stuff together.

I have a question, but it's not really limited only to the final episode...
What really are the Toplesses and the new Buster Machines?

They were considered enemies by the original defense system, and someone could remain a topless, even after the correct age, by eating meat of the real space monsters.
I thougth they were supposed to be Eva-like Space monsters confined in armor, but in the final episode it's shown that one of the new Buster Machines has a control interface almost exactly like the one of the original Buster Machines.

I suppose that Toplesses can be some sort of "mental mis-influence" from the original STMCs. The nameless Buster Machine Corp. then just exploited that...
But really, if NGE's any indication, all that stuff about Toplessness is just an excuse to tell the story.

19 has a pretty similar piloting sphere too. Even Evas have nice big 'cockpits', I don't really see how 'biomechanical' and 'control room' contradict each other.

I just got finished watching all the episodes back-to-back and I loved it. It had a different tone than the original. It starts out goofy and cute while the original is more melodramatic. But they both developed into something bigger and better by the end. Have to agree with Canon about the ending tying in to the original show's ending. That was exactly how I was hoping they would end it.
So... why's this in Evangelion?
Speaking of Eva tie-ins, I've noticed a lot of flaming hair in anime lately. This being one, and another being Godannar. Obviously it is associated with gods, but where did that whole visual originate? Is it from some older anime, or Japanese legend or something?
Also, that whole part in GB2 where Nono gives Lark her "singularity" was a nice and subtle (read: blatent) reference to Gendo and Rei from EoE. -_-;

There seemed to be quite a bit of stuff in Ep6 that's similar to stuff found in NGE.
BTW, don't know if anyone knows, but there's now apparently a Top wo Nerae 2! manga. Something about side stories.
